As of today, Amazon added Xbox 360 to the list of platforms you could pre-order Final Fantasy XIV Online for. Last week Amazon added the pre-order for the PS3 and PC versions of the game.

Less than a week ago we were reporting that FFXIV might be coming to Xbox because of a Linkedin profile. Just a few days before that, we reported that Amazon was taking pre-orders for FFXIV. Now what happens when those two stories have a baby? You guessed it. Amazon is now taking pre-orders for FFXIV on Xbox! Not much else to this story, but seems strange that Amazon would go to the trouble of adding a pre-order for the Xbox version without some information from Square Enix. Would they really go to the trouble and then have to issue tens of thousands of refunds? We’ll see. But for those Xbox owners out there – looks like you can now order the game! We’ve updated our new pre-order price tracking page as well with the info.

What do you think about this development? We saw last week on a LinkedIn profile of a Square Enix Employee that they are working on the Xbox 360 version. Which platform would you like to play the game on?

I like to take a wait and see approach. There's a disclaimer on the Amazon website:
"Official pricing and release date have not been announced by the publisher. These are estimates only and subject to change."
As to the webiste's claims of having to offer refunds if no XBOX version comes out--credit cards are not charged until orders are shipped, so there would be no refunds for charges that were never processed if no XBOX 360 version ends up shipping
AGH!!!!
Im still playing on pc.
Honestly, I don't see why it matters. I don't know why anyone would want to play it on anything other than PC.
If it's an MMO of any sort, then playing it on a console is kind of a waste IMO. I would rather smash my gonads with a spiked mallet on a splintered log.
Getting too old for this $&17!
What do you know? FFXI released on playstation 2 the same year as PC and a HUGE percent of its players are on ps2 and/or xbox 360 which it released on earlier. After years of playing MMOs at a desk I am looking forward to getting this on ps3 and relaxing in front of a big tv on the couch.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.
Amazon is always the first to jump the gun and offer preorders. I've seen them offer preorders on games that end up being dropped. There is no need to get hyped about it, most likely its a rumor started by some a$$ hole. Just like those PSN/Xbox live chain letter rumors people keep spamming. Their is no doubt it will come to 360 but not a launch. Why would SE waste money on developing it for the Xbox when M$ isn't budging on the idea of making it run on silver accounts?
Cool, more people. I hope it doesn't affect the overall launch date of FFXIV, though.
Play it on PS3. Play it on Xbox360. Play it on PC. It doesn't matter - just play it!

Awesome if it is, the more people the better, but I don't put any weight on what Amazon say tbh. I personally don't expect to see a 360 version for 2-6 months after the PS3 launch.
They don't take payment until the item ships for a good reason.
I would be playing on PC anyhow, but I know a ton of 360 gamers who would buy into this title if it came to them and was sanely priced.
Well my PC "probably" won't be able to handle FFXIV, and I just bought a new WRX, and i'm trying to find a house to buy. So if I dont' have to upgrade my PC or buy a new one that would be great.
And honestly I play'd 60% of my FFXI time on the 360 (other 40% was on PC) And it was set up great. So I dont' see a big deal eather way. I'm happy that it "looks" like it'll be coming to the 360, and to those of you who have newer comps, congratz

I'm either getting a secondhand PS3 or 360 to play this alongside my PC. I love my PC, don't get me wrong, but to be able to put this up on my TV and relax on the couch would be great. Sometimes I'd just rather be on a console. But, I agree with most in saying that this is meant to be played on the PC.
Majority of people in Japan played on the PS2 for FFXI.
Because SE has already said that you would need a high end machine to run the game in today's market, a vast majority of people will not be able to play it on optimal settings.
You can get a very good quality game in terms of graphics by having an hd tv and a PS3/Xbox 360. There's something great about sitting on your couch and playing the game. Some people arn't set up to be able to hook up the computer to the tv, nor even know how to.
If the game wants to be a success, it will need to have it on multiple platforms and give people as many options. Not all of us can play on the PC/PS3/Xbox, some people have only one option. It's nice to know that a game is playable regardless of your options.
You can even hook up a controller and play on your pc, or you can hook up a keyboard with the usb support on the PS3 or Xbox.
The only only advantage to playing on the PC, if you have a high end gaming system is the use of ventrilo. That is assuming that the game will not have any voice chat functionality (i.e. headset compatible). If the game has the ability where you can set up private voice chat channels as part of the game, then there is zero drawback to playing on a console.
As for me, I plan on getting the game for both PC and PS3 since I can pick and choose my playstyle depending on how I feel that day.
I thought the reason they weren't releasing on 360 was because Microsoft were being greedy and demanding players have a Gold account to access it? I'll be surprised if MS have backed down... although SE coulda threaten to abandon the platform entirely I suppose.
HDMI out of your PC to your TV?
1 spent 4 years playing EQOA on the ps2 with a year out for WoW in the middle and personally i found the pc to be a horrible thing to play on simply from the comfort side . using a kb and mouse i found i had to be sat up on a chair (the mouse tends to not work when your mouse pads sat on the sofa next to you). and after a cpl hours i had to take an unwanted break just to stop my back screaming at me.
With the ps2 EQOA game i had all my commands HK'd, and could happily sit with my roomie doing a 14 hour grind then raid session. nothing beats lying on the floor with a massive cushion and a cup of tea or curled on an armchair. Additionally the ps3 wont suffer system requirement problems or lagging in towns due to the ram requirements unlike the main town in WoW that made my old pc show me 3 out of 10 secs of game movement. getting to the bank took ages :S
ive still got my mini logitech kb that sits nicely on my lap and a 500 gb hard-drive ps3 hooked up to an optima hd projector so i suspect im gonna be having a lot less techno problems than some pc users. Im also thinking iof investing in a mini keyboard that clips onto the controller if i need to. I guess it depends what your used to but my old guild from eqoa have racked up a lot of time between us on EQOA EQ2 Vanguard WoW etc and they have all said they prefer to console mmo.
If they do implement Voicechat on the ps3 (which should happen np) then theres gonna be even less restriction on your game playing position. Try using a mouse and kb while your stood in the kitchen making a cup of tea then try using 1 bluetooth controller while doing the same... i guess i know who's never gonna be thirsty while stuck in the middle of a raid
HDMI out of your PC to your TV?
I do that, but honestly it's cumbersome. I'd much rather just put a disk in and lay back. Plus, I don't like moving my laptop. Sure it's a laptop, but also my desktop replacement, so its pretty bulky.
I'm not sure if anyones mentioned it yet, but Amazon took down the 360 pre order for XIV.
Hmm... Someone pissed off SE. :P
