Personally, when a dev said that they are hoping for people to reroll when they hit max level my "Game suck-o-meter" started going off like a fire alarm.
I have no clue why. All they're saying is re-roll and try out another class and enjoy another story. They already said endgame would be there for everybody. I think that meter alert was a false alarm.
Throw that on top of "The story is the main part of the game" and you get the bigger picture of casual fest.
I just sick of people acting like this game will be the second coming and then flaming those who criticize it. I'd say there is more evidence towards it being a casual carebear fest than anything else, but if I say that on the official forums I'll get 5 pages of.

This game being casual is no surprise. Hardcore MMOs are bad business, it's an auto-niche button. Anybody expecting SWTOR to be anything but casual hasn't been following the game.
Im still worried. What if it turns out to be nothing more then a WoW-clone? Choose class, do quest, get reward, level up, repeat!
Daarco, the system to which you are referring is a traditional RPG system. It's not a "WoW" system. Classes, questing and leveling is definitely going to be in this game.. and that's what a lot of people enjoy, it's how RPGs tend to work. The difference is how this is gone about. Is it a mundane grind like in some games? Or something much better? Go check out some of their videos, keeping what i've said in mind, and check it out for yourself. If you don't want classes, questing and leveling, I don't know what to tell you.
You can tell him to play Darkfall
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
Altho i will most likely try this game , i am hoping that as development rolls on that some serious changes are made ,the direction that Bioware is taking this game is not indicitive of a traditional MMO , the more i read the more it sounds like a MSORPG not an MMO, posssibly further testing will bring some changes..
From PC GAmer who recently got to play the current build "SWToR plays more like DA than it does WoW" fill in the Wow with any current mmo ... A companion pet system for everyone troubles me , from Bioware " The game can be completed without any interaction with another player" Huhhhhh!!
I really like the SW ip and want to see this game succeed BUT , when i read stuff like this from a recent interview with there devs at E3 it makes me cringe...
The Flash Point scene was a private, closed off area for only you and someone you brought along from the looks of it. no other players, so it is safe to assume this was a single player area. We saw some people on Hutta, but they were just going about their normal business.
As the devs told us, the majority of the game can be done without a single bit of help from another player. They said that the main appeal of MMOs is the experience single player with the option of being with other players. They confirmed that names, chat, and so on could all be turned off or ignored if you really, really wanted absolutely nothing to do with other people.
Names:
Naming filters have been confirmed. No numbers, special characters, or Star Wars names. They emphasized the strictness of this system, as they seemed to agree on the assumption it could be immersion, if not game breaking.
If they want to make KOTOR 3 thats great but dont rap it up with optional coop play and slap a monthly sub on it..
When every lvl 30 (insert class) is running around in the same exact gear and none needs any help to aquire anything... blehhh
There will be no sense of community , no need for community ...
So far I like what I'm seeing with the exception of the graphics. As long as the gameplay is fun I can look past that point.
Ktanner, the graphics are the most obvious thing that will be different. It's a complicated process, but generally in development you build the game starting big and work towards small things. Everything in that video was essentially the game in its infancy, where they likely took some time out to fix up the flashpoints and dialogue for the purposes of the video. The graphics are something that come together far later in the development process - and for the majority of the development they use basic, low-rendering textures as a placeholder so they can work more efficiently.
A better way to think of it is that Bioware released ME2 and DA:O on their ECLIPSE Engine, which they would use for SW:TOR if they haven't developed a better engine by next year. So really, the graphics can't be any worse then their current games, which happen to be pretty damn good. Make sense?

It should, does anybody remember what DA:O looked like when it was first announced? Compare and you tell me how far it came along.
Saying this game is going to be awesome is just as if not more ignorant than saying it will be terrible. You have no idea.
Personally, when a dev said that they are hoping for people to reroll when they hit max level my "Game suck-o-meter" started going off like a fire alarm.
This is wrong, as was also stated in an official statement by the community manager. People just jump to conclusions on one tiny sentence.
What the dev said was "Our ideal situation is for people to try another class when they finish their first".
It's quite obvious this is their ideal situation, if they're going to be designing practically a whole BW game for each class, of course their ideal situation is for you to try them all out.
That does not mean there will not be endgame, because it is confirmed there will be endgame.
For the rest, yes this game will be aimed at casuals first and foremost, whether that's a bad thing is up to you.
I like my games to be actually fun from the moment I log in.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
Nope, it's not a WoW clone. Because while WoW sent the MMO industry into a death spiral its barely begun to almost sort of tilt out of of, this game, has no semblance of an MMORPG. The very fact that they're charing a monthly fee for a game they said is 95% scripted instances is a crime. No denying the single player story will be fun and interesting, but it will NOT be an MMORPG, and anyone pretending it will be, probably started playing MMOs in the WoW generation.
This information is blatantly wrong, 95% scripted instances has never been stated or even suggested... ever.
I will again link this video, which is a collection of quotes from various interviews.
There will be PvP, exploration, raids, group content, trading, auction houses etc.
This post also illustrates the biggest problem with so called "cynics" of this game, they jump to conclusions or criticise it based on information they frankly just pull out of their arse.

QFT. Happens with every game in development. Some people just get off on tearing games down that don't fit into their narrow vision of what they should be.
I don't see all the fuss with this game. It is yet another single player MMO, especially coming from Bioware. The hype is killing like cancer.
Every MMO is only as much as a SPRPG as you make it out to be.
I'll be starting a guild, leveling with friends, PvPing and progressing my character with thousands of complete strangers. Sounds like an MMO to me. Me thinks you and many other (mostly on this site) lack initiative. Sitting by waiting for the devs to force you into a group is the problem with a lot of you.
i absolutely cant wait for this game to come out. im going to play this game so damn hard my computer is going to melt. ive got 3 weeks of vacation saved up and im going to blow every minute of it so i can play this damn near 24/7. i dont care if im the only person playing it or what anyone else thinks about this game. i am pumped beyond belief!
What I'd really like to know is just what kind of a moron levels in WoW 1-79 in a group (minus the recruit a friend people with their obscene 300% exp boost)?
Whoever they are, they would theoretically be the same group of morons who are complaining about TOR's solo-friendly nature.

I don't know about 1-79... but using the LFG tool once you hit 18-19 ish, running dungeons repeatedly is pretty friggin quick. Sure, it can feel like a grind, but the xp in the dungeons is insane, tbh. Especially if you have any heirloom equipment. I can only imagine RAF + LFG + heirloom. Has to be ludricous speed levelling, tbh.
Sure, you can level 1-80 in WoW solo. I've done that on 5 characters so far. But the last 3 that I've leveled... using LFG has really provided a significant boost, tbh.

Semantics, BlackWatch. In fact the LFG tool was only just recently installed, back in December I think. Before that, you had to find a group the old fashioned way (searching through trade or general chat) and virtually nobody wanted to run those old dungeons, or were not skilled enough to. But regardless, in WoW like many other games you have the option to a) Level alone b) Level with people. How is what SWTOR offers any different? You can group with people and be part of the same quest, make choices together and share in that experience, OR you can do it alone. What SWTOR is doing is no different then any other questing system except for the fact its fully voiced and 1000x more interactive.
Anakin didn't need Obi Wan to hold his hand through everything he did. Why should you need others for every single thing in an MMO? I'm confident you will need a group for certain things. They won't let you solo a battle for all things holy.
Expect the tried and applied error of other successful MMO's, but with improvements. That's something Bioware is good at. Improving on what they've done before. I have faith they'll deliver a rich, immersive environment for me to play out my 'old republic' story.
Longing for Skyrim, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3
Bioware makes the best video games true, but when it comes to MMOs I was going to be much more happy to see Mass Effect Online then yet another Star Wars MMO.
I grew up on Star wars and I love the movies but there comes the time when the story of "I"ma big bad ebil Sith and therefor I wield a big bad red lightsaber and blue and green ones are for pussies" is starting to get very old and childish.
Lore-wise Mass Effect can make for a much more epic and mature MMO..IMO!
I know it's a lil late to talk about this now but I see it as a missed opportunity for Bioware.
Good news for me is that after the huge success of ME series it looks like Bioware will continue making them and wont stop at what it was supposed to be a trilogy.
MMO would have been the best solution though but oh well...
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

I agree that Mass Effect would make a good MMO but you have to think reasonably. They can't make it an MMO since it's one of their leading game series that they have yet to finish. There's even been talk of more Mass Effect games after the trilogy. Perhaps in some years it could be a viable option but right now SWTOR makes perfect sense. And really Star Wars has always been a more Fantasy Sci-Fi then anything else, so you shouldn't knock it for things you consider to be childish, it's just being true to it's genre. Besides, it's about time someone brought Star Wars back to the MMO front to finally bury SWG once and for all.
While I most certainly applaud your enthusiam, I am afraid that I do not share it. The main reason being that Bioware is but a few months shy of going to Beta testing stage and they have yet to discuss much about the game besides a small bit of its combat style and its epic storylines. Little else has been revealed, let alone discussed. Of the small information that has been released, I find little to be overly enthusiastic about. My biggest hang up? NPC controlled party "companions".
If you take the SW:tOR predecessors, KotOR, you will see games that are awesome for their stories, and good in their combat, but little else of them stands out. Will SW:tOR resemble KotOR heavily? One can only assume, and that is not something I like to do. I rely on the information given, but as we have seen, that's not much.
I worry about SW:tOR in many areas. First and foremost would be the areas of the game that have nothing to do with combat and story. Where are the other things that really help to make MMOs great? Where is the crafting at? Will it be there at all? They say yes, but I am extremely fearsome of it, because of the way they did describe their vision of it. What little they did talk about.
I'm not going to dig for it, but they said something along the lines of "simple" and "easily accessable". That really does scare me. I'm deeply afraid it is going to go the way of WoW crafting and be so overly simplified as to become down right stupid. If they do it like WoW, you will have a crafting system where you combine one piece of metal, a tube, a wooden stock, some other random item and after 5 seconds of crafting time, you have a brand new T-21 rifle. I'm sorry, but no thanks. Not to mention, after you make enough of the T-21's to get to the next level of crafting, you will NEVER make one again. Let's also not forget the fact that nearly every other rifle you can get from a loot drop will be significantly better than any crafted version you could make. Is that the way it will be? I most certainly hope not, but they have not given out any other information besides "simple" and "easily accessable" that could possibly lead me to a different conclusion.
In light of that possibility in the scheme of crafting, what does that mean for the economy? Are we again going to be relgated to an Auction House only system, like WoW's, where the only interaction between players will take place via a market screen in some random building in major cities? Again, I hope not. But unless they come out with some other information besides "simple" and "easily accessable", this will be another area that I have great concern for.
What about things not having anything to do with crafting, combat or story? I'd love to speculate on those, but there is nothing to speculate on. They have said the worlds will be "large and open". But to what extent? Will it be like WoW and SWG where the worlds are large and open? Or will they be like Guild Wars and Dungeons and Dragons Online, where once outside of a major city or town, you now exist in some instance made specifically for you and your avatar or your party.
Let's not even begin to talk about my fears for the "multiplayer" aspect of it. One phrase... "NPC companions" This phrase in and of itself causes me GREAT concern. I am by no means a stickler for forced grouping. Not no way, not no how. But I am one of those types of players that likes to see a slight need to rely on my fellow player. Of course this carries over into far more things than combat, like mainly the crafting and the economy. I don't mind if the game is soloable from start to end-game. I could care less. But when they make the game not soloable, then allow for NPC controlled companions, it kind of kills the whole MMO aspect to it, does it not? I mean seriously? What is the difference, in combat only, between an MMO that allows NPC controlled companions, and a game like, say, "Dungeon Siege"?
Okay, I think I have gone on long enough. I do hope I have not rained on anyone's parade too much. That MOST CERTAINLY was not my intent. I do sincerely hope that SW:tOR turns out to be a phenomenal game. If it does, I will MOST CERTAINLY be playing it. But again, I have not seen enough yet, or i've seen a little bit too much of stuff that gives me pause, to declare this game to be "the second coming". But as always... "Your mileage may vary."

I did not spout rumors or speculate on anything. I quoted Bioware directly when they said the crafting system would be "Simple" and "Easily Accessable". Not speculation, not rumors. Posted and factual. I compared their description of it to our most beloved example of "simple" and "easily accessable". WoW's key trademarks. Do you deny WoW is simple and easily accessable? No, I don't think so. Like I said, until they give out more information, what other conclusion can I possibly come to?

again, fail on your part. coming to conclusions on something you dont know anything about. the devs said one thing and could totally change everything. this game has not even reached a finalized state and by coming to a conclusion based on a few tid bits of information to you means it is. like i said previously, this game is over a year away for release if not more. i dont play wow so i have no clue how their crafting is done.

When every lvl 30 (insert class) is running around in the same exact gear and none needs any help to aquire anything... blehhh

The looks can drastically change.

Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

There's no air in space, hence no sounds!
On a more serious note, I actually like the concept of this mmo. Looking forward to trying it.
Sincerely,
Me

so essentially what just did in that entire ramble you call a post, is speculate. speculate on things you dont know anything about nor does anyone for that matter except the people making the game. bioware does that have to vomit out every single piece of information on the game right off the bat to please you or anyone. the game is over a year away and all information on it will be given out in due time. you heard a couple of rumours and just ran wild with them comparing an aspect of the game to WoW. that my mongo friend, is an epic fail.
