Not having much luck on my first day -- I'm done, good luck SV!

I finally got the download done, and created a character.
Start in a town, run around for 2 minutes, game crashed.
Start a new char again and start again in a different town. Game crashed in 2 minutes.
Start again, cannot log in now.
Finally got logged in again, let character stand without moving. After 2 minutes, started looking around, game hung up completely, had to kill it.
So far have been unable to actually play for more than two minutes.

Yeah, Welcome to MO.
If you're getting a Nowgame.exe try lowering all graphic (minus resolution) settings. (regardless of your hardware)

Thats how the open beta has been for the last 1 1/2 weeks. The only response you will get from their support forum is to "update your old drivers/directx/physix" so I am not sure what to tell ya. Everyone else is experiencing the same thing as you. Game is broken right now as there is extreme lag and the AI is disabled.

Thanks to a bug report by Trixxer in your Mo folder go to: Updater > mortalonline > UnrealEngine3 > NowGame > Config and open NowEngine.ini now, first thing you wanna do is backup the file. now, get in the file and look for maxLODsize=4096 line, you will find many of them, change the number from 4096 to 512. in all of them. save and start the game. please report back if it helped you

Don't exaggerate, not everyone is experiencing this. I have never had this issue, not since block A. Chances are, it really is a physX or directx problem. You may actually need the latest .NET framework, that solves it for some people but seems to be less well-known as an issue. I won't deny the game being pretty broken though, considering the lag and lack of AI at the moment.

I ran around with a couple people from my guild (neither of them had played before) for 3 hours last night without a crash. the only lag we experienced was crossing nodes, which is due to the game loading all the textures in the area you are moving into - and is client side (its governed by my slow hdd at the moment)
anyways, i hate to rain on your parade but this is not how the beta has been. If you make the change to your nowengine.ini file i listed above it should run perfectly (ctrl F the ini file in notepad to find them quicker). its a result of MO trying to use 4gigs of your ram for loading textures and your computer saying it can't have them.
As for the game being broken and the lack of AI, they are working on it. The game has been steadily improving since last summer, it may not be going at the rate people would like - but then none of us really know what SV is dealing with. I have been in beta since block A and i have seen that they fix things as fast as they can. Its unfortunate that the stress tests didn't uncover these problems before they went to open beta, but at least they have identified the problem being AI/database related.
Ok, lowered the graphics options to the lowest settings, and it ran long enough for me to start exploring and get killed
I am repulsed by seeing fully naked people running around, complete with genitals hanging out. If that is going to be common, I won't play the game. Yuck.

No one gives a damn if its an R rated game that actually achieves something with that R rating, like GTA.
But absolutely no one even in their 40s wants to see shlong all over the place in a game that will be 100% male (trust me absolutely no females will play this)

trust you? no you are uninformed, there are many females already playing and some are involved in the community by being Mods, GMs and hosts on the MO radio. The game will grow just like any other Indie game; like Darkfall, Eve, World War 2 Online etc. Whether it achieves the same popularity as Eve, for example, is to bee seen.
Dude, there are not MANY players at all PERIOD during a free , open beta.
PLUS, this game is going down in flames. Just Google and see what reputation MO AND SV have garnered with this Open Beta,
Its over- Sorry if you paid money for this garbage but anyone defending this game is the UNINFORMED one.
MO in its current state aint lag or ding dongs flapping all around. its the fact that its not a game.....its a game under construction and just doubt enough will give the devs the time to develope it if they release in its current state.
they have great ideas of making a "real" online world where you get absolutely every choice....but well....in its current state its not a game.....what do ppl do, they log in harvest to be able to craft gear/weapons kill the nearest person asap even in starter gear....there is nothing to build community on, since its not a game. its a go gather/craft and kill MMO as of right now.
that said I do hope they survive I love the idea of a fully free world where PvP is allowed but judged on from the players themself - just no gameplay behind this to make this realize as of right now.
MO aint a game, but alot of sweet MMO thoughts behind and Id hope it survive and I ll play it in 2-3 years....just doubt it when there is a game like Darkfall that is 10 times more of a game.....and in most basics is the same as MO

18 rated is it? Funny on my cheap metal box I don't see any rating. I don't see any rating when it starts up. I don't see it listed on the ESRB site, in fact I don't see MO listed just about anywhere. Must be on that missing instruction manual, or maybe the DVD that doesn't have any artwork on it. Hmmm, maybe it would have cost to much to put the number 18 on it and they were trying to save money?
So where is this 18 rating coming from or are you just one more apologist for the child CEO and modding staff of SV trying to blow smoke up peoples asses?
This game is stillborn. I won't even say it was a good attempt, it was horrid and amatuerish to the max. If any business school wants a example case of how to NOT run a business then SV will be the poster child.

Bet none of these guys would be complaining if only females were naked, or if it was topless-only like AOC. They add in a bit of eye candy that females can appreciate and all of the guys are raging.

There are a lot better and more appropriate avenues for getting "eye candy" than in a supposed MMORPG where men are men, the women are men, and the children are FBI agents.
I really... really doubt that a single person will decide to buy the game because they can watch naked thieves roam the towns with their schlongs waving.

I will give Star Vault some credit; as a developer, I know how hard it is to release solid code. And I can appreciate the financial pressures, always towards the end the pressure increases, a lot. They have the core of a game and a lot of good ideas. And they have thousands of people playing it, and some of them like it and want to keep playing. That is an achievement.
I was personally not attracted to the game as it is in today's beta, although the fundamental ideas are intriguing. If there was some other feature, like stellar graphics, I could keep playing just for the beauty and immersion.
Instead, I have to turn my graphics down to primitive levels, and the "immersion" is with a bunch of guys with their **** hanging out.

Olepi, first your way to quick to jump on the bandwagon of "hey lets all hate MO because its in beta and should be amazingly polished and well played". The game is in open beta to get players on the servers and really stress test things. They have said many times "this is beta, it means testing" . Your not there to judge the game as a whole, but to help and make the game a better experience in the long run.
And for the genitals in the game. Yes its new, but your just going to have to grow the fuck up and learn to except whats natural to all humans. I'm guessing you live in America, where showing any skin, is a sin against humanity and prohibited. Move to another country and see how the rest of the world lives.

You know.. the one where people will go to the store with their schlong just waving in the wind and not get arrested?
Not acceptable behavior is ANY civilized country so I don't know what being American has to do with anything other than to serve as an outlet for your obvious anti-American feelings.
it's a game... it's not reality... but I don't see where it adds anything to the game. Don't even start down the realism road. No.. it's simply there for the shock value and to try and lure the kids who actually get titilated by watching a cartoon get naked.
