I'm enjoying WoW a lot.
During the ST, my wife and I tried all the classes/races - and this time we've just focused on those we enjoyed most from the ST.
I am playing a Mage as primary - and they probably need to be brought in-line with the other classes. Or, better yet, the other classes need to be brought in-line iwth the Mage.
Very little downtime (self-cast food/water), very cheap to play, extremely high damage output, and ranged attacks. Sure, if a mob pops on top of me I am most likely toast...
No wait - I can use my PBAoE freeze to hold them while I run... or even polymorph them to sheep. A fun and useful spell!
Other than in-combat healing - Mages have it all.
All of the other classes have been fun and viable - but Mages seem "more equal" to me. Maybe the recent changes to armor was an initial pass at making Mages & Rogues a bit more fragile. In which case I do like Bliz going slowly on the nerfs.
I am also trying to play up a Priest & Druid, and these seem fairly strong classes as well.
Again, I like the way Mages are set up. It just seems to me the other classes should be operating in the same region of effectiveness.

Every class has their weaknesses. Wait, except for the Mage it seems. Nerf the Alliance mages, but leave the Horde mages alone just kidding. Need to make other classes stronger or make the mage weaker like you said.
Every one who wants to have that "Godly" character will most likely create a mage. Blizzard has done things to make it better, but it still seems they have a way to go to balance them. All of this is from the eyes of a Level 8 Troll Rogue. So I haven't seen much high level mage action, but what I heard is horrible.
i dont know..it depends your play style. ive tried them all to 15 at least. i know thats not very high but i took the ones i liked best higher, and for solo me personally, i could fly with my hunter.
talk about little down time, i had zero, zip. just finding more mobs to kill, adds were not problem unless it was +2 or more over my lvl which..doesnt happen because id see them coming on radar with track beast/humanoid.
mage is nice class sure, but they all are nice.

Wait until you get to a higher level and you will take everything you just said back... This patch MEGA nerfed mages...
Apparently mages were cheap, but now with the regeant requirements, they are very expensive.

Everyone on the Blizzard forums is complaining now about the mages needing too many reagents with all the spells. Blizzard may have 'over-nerfed' the mages
Well early in beta imagine the mage with another spell and skill:
Invisibility (turn stealth) and they could lockpick too hehe.
Thankfully thats gone :P.
But i agree, BUT i dont like their play style at all... too much downtime. To solo a mob you have to expend nearly all your current mana resources on them. Then sit for 20 secs or so to regen.
Still they are generally the highest classes with all the cash/mounts and smugness heh.
Still i enjoy warrior or rogue far more. Rogue is hilarious in pvp, you can make it so you could never get ganked :P. Vanish and sprint are helpful.
BTW did u mention Mages could teleport (pre-patch they could teleport just for mana now they need an item). But still abilitiy to cut out 5-10 min travelling times later on was nice for them too. Its why they lvled so high.
Ability to solo, ability to ping around, ability to make own food, Crowd control spells... you name it hehe. Just mix it with herbalism/apothecary and you got a winning class.
They need to be nerfed a little more perhaps the damage brought down a little (not too much tho).

I play a lvl 15 Gnome Mage and There are many things I agree/disagree with overall.
The play style is incredible. Its very fun to constantly run around and kill anything your lvl or lower. On many quests though, you really have to group to get stuff done and its difficult to solo things at times. I enjoy mostly just running around and taking care of business ( crafting, finding specific resources )
With this last patch we had, it was nice to see the addition of race skills implemented finally and they are nice. The reagents for some skillz and what not are a bit of a burden ( having them at the opertune time in the inventory and than of course, having to cary them in your inventory with you. But overall, its not that big of a deal, and it makes the game more fun because its something more challenging!
The cost and what not of being a mage is contreversial.. Yes.. We dont have to spend 10 silver on a new piece of armor for our chest, legs, feet, arms, braces, heads, on and on and on... That saves us a crap load of Money... All we have to spend money on is our cloth armor ( CHEAP ) and than whatever we choose ( CRAFTING ) ... BUT.. dont forget to discuss our Spells and how much they cost...
Given, they start out cheap.. but when your lvl 12-16... you begin to earn a lot more skillz, like 6 more, and each of those skills cost a pretty penny! Consider it breaking even with the other classes... Warriors and such spend all their money on armor/weapons.... Mage's save up all their money... to spend it on spells... and we do want those spells!
