Getting Bad Vibes From the Start

I had nothing better to do for the moment so I thought I would download the MO beta and see what I thought of the game.  I make and account and download the launcher fine, but when I try to start it up and download the game I get an error message.  So I go to the forums and what I found doesn't make me too happy.

The official thread gives a solution.  This makes me very unsure of the game from the start.  They say they know that the launcher you are downloading from the official site is out of date.  The solution is for you to run the updater over and over and over again until you connect to the server.

My question is: If they know it is a problem, why do they still have you downloading an out of date file?

They tell you to try and try till you connect and download the new launcher.  Why don't they just make this the launcher you download in the first place?

How can this be the solution they offer you?  Just keep trying and trying till you get it, it might take a couple of hours, but you'll get it.  I've been trying for over 15 minutes now and no luck yet.  Doesn't look like I'll be playing this game.

Before anyone says anything, I know that they have a link to some Italian site that has the good launcher.  That is unacceptable.  If I want to play the game I shouldn't have to go anywhere but the official site, not some other, unofficial site that I know nothing about.

All you need to know is that they actually mailed their customers who bought the boxed version of the game a tin box with nothing inside except one DVD that was unuseable.  Yes.. they DVD they mailed out had a client that could not be patched to the newer versions.  They have promised to mail out an actual useable DVD at launch but since the first box took a month to arrive (and many still haven't received) what good will it do to get the disc a month after launch of the game?

I have not had any of these patcher problems.

I used the installer from the website, it downloaded and installed in a matter of hours. I got into the game and was able to play for a while. When i got a crash I resolved it in a couple minutes and got back to playing.

Btw, the crash was cause the game was trying to use all 4 gigs of my 3 gigs of ram to load some textures. A quick editing of the ini file to only try and use a max of 512 memory fixed it up real nice.

The game is laggy since OB, but its not a big deal. I can wait for the next patch and play something else until they fix it instead of raging and spreading hate.

Game is completly broken....Trust your vibe.

If that "fix" doesnt work there is about 32 other things people have tried to make it work (support forums) and if you try all 32, 1 will work for you.

Thats only the start. It gets better from there. You get to see the "game"

hmm still that problem? I also read some long time ago the game would have some balance issues with high lvls farming low lvls so they would lvl even more. well in anycase it was what I read before.

I had no problem downloading or patching the game. It took about an hour and a half. Aferwards was able to log in, create my first character and run around and explore a bit.

I probably need to set the grapics to lower settings though.

Yeah they did mail out an outdated dvd. Please tell me how they would send out a dvd that will be made a couple of months in the future? It did not work to patch from start. But it does now? So what is there to complain about?

They send the dvd (with old client as everyone can understand since it is under development) and they fixed so you can patch it from the dvd-version. What is it more to get upset over?

The mailed out a DVD that was unuseable for  6 weeks... and you ask "So what is there to complain about"?  I think 99.9% of the population would know the answer to that question...

 

As for it being useable now... many MANY people have posted that they cannot patch.  Please go read the many threads in the official forums if you doubt me.

Every other company that send discs to manufacturing while still working on the game has figured out how to do this.  It's not some magic spell they cast.
