Update for Mortal Online by CEO

 Dear community,

As you know we have been working on fixing the lag we have been experiencing during the latest open beta phase. We've successfully pinpointed the main reasons for his and are currently solving them as fast as we can.

We have also had some problems with our patcher, both in the terms of a huge amount of new players trying to connect to the game, and that we had too few servers hosting the data. We have now updated this and it should work a lot better now. As already announced the (by now) outdated client on the Mortal Online DVDs will now properly update itself.

We will have a small patch on Monday 15th of February, containing a combat overhaul which will improve the overall feeling and flow of the combat. This includes updated hit boxes, real weapon arcs (to hit your target more accurately not relying on where your “crosshair” is but where the actual blade is), some bug fixes and some small features. We are looking forward to hearing your response on these important changes.

On 22th of February we will release a huge content patch including even more combat changes, changes to the magic system, new weapons, obviously new content as in new areas, pickables/resources, npcs and mobs, new player buildings and some other stuff you may find very interesting.

We are looking forward to release these patches as they affect the core of the combat in the game and we think the result is very good so far. This is of course something we will continuously improve and polish since it’s an important factor of the game.

And the chances that these patches do not break more than they fix?

And the chances that a meteor hits earth tomorrow morning and we never get to see said changes?

One of those scenarios is far more likely than the other.

I'm sure you'll agree one is far more likely to occur than the other.

Every new bit of content released needs testing, you can't just throw new content in and expect it to work perfectly first time. That's why most AAA MMOs have a test server where new content post-release is playtested by the fanbase before being implemented into the game. If they really are adding a huge content patch so late into the development cycle, that means they either intend to extend the length of the open beta to ensure some kind of quality control, or they're just gonna plonk it in before official release and hope for the best. Let's just hope it's the former.

Sounds good, looks like they are finally getting on track. However, I hope they dont release the game until end of march as huge patches usually take atleast a month to properly test and fix.

That is normal for any game in beta.
