Everytime i read the mmorpg forum about darkfall it is either about how the game is pve, or how someone is thinking about buying the game. my advice on the latter point is buy it, its a challenge and something completely different, and will probably surprise you, in a good or bad way, i dont think you will feel like you wasted money, at least i didnt.
i bought it because i knew therew ould be no tial, and these forums convinced me it would be something i would be interested in, i wont lie and say i played any old school mmo's, i started with lotro which i loved. darkfall, was a game which i was tempted to play because of the "sandbox" qualities, and i gotta say, it was refreshing to play a game which didnt really tell me what to do, where to go etc.
my first day i spent 1-2 hours killling pve monsters, 2 hours in i hadnt died, or been pk'd, but out of the blue a goblin killed me near my starter town, but coincidently i was near a player who happened to be from the clan "new". at the time i dint know the clan or much about them, but he came over to me and "rezzed" me and then asked me to the guild, i joined and he told me to wait where i was "hiding in a bush" while he went and got me a mount,
so 2 hours into the game i had joined a clan, got a mount, and was on my way back to our very own city. the following few days i spent my time levelling my skills fighting mobs with the guild, harvesting and crafting which was surprisingly easy to get into, and every few hours "defending the city against other players who came to get some easy kills, which by the way i didnt find annoying, but was actually some of the most interesting and enjoyable times i spent in the game, damn most of the time they didnt even loot my corpse, obviously cause i had junk on my character. and althought on these forums i heard that i would have to grind for 2 months before i was useful, which i gotta admit was true in 1v1 against .but in group pvp, i was at least useful for "annoying" the enemy and getting him to chase me while the rest of the guild took him out
expanding on the thread title, ill talk about pvp. i did a lot of exploring, which in this game by the way, is awesome, and any time i did come up against a player it was pretty easy to see if you were his "level" by seeing what mobs he was attacking, so you could judge whetherto attack or not by the level of his mob, these players who i could see, or thought were my level provided me with some of the best ingame experiences i had in darkfall, or the best lessons lol. ill be honest i did a lot of running away from people who looked could like they had better gear, but hey i had only been playing for a week lol.
anyway all i wanted to say from this post was if this game has started to seem appealing, as it had to me recently, dont let the more recent posts complaining about how you would have to grind for 2 months before you could pvp put you off, because lets be honest, thats how it is in any game. just go exploring and find someone your own level like i did, start a fight, if u die"which i did, a lot" dont worry, if you win, loot the player and feel like a champ. i got a bigger high from darkfall, than i havefrom any other mmo ive ever played.
really im writin this post for people who arent veteren mmo players, i never played UO or AC, so i dont know how different this game is all i know is so far i have been impressed and have felt more free than any other recent mmo that i have played. anyway give it a chance, i dont think you'll be disapointed. sorry for the wall of text, im a bit pished lol

I would try it if there was ever a trial or buddy key system, but other than that, it is quite doubtful.
Thanks for the info about i though.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
i know how you feel, i didnt want to buy a game i hadnt had the chance to play, but the way i looked at it was,it was about the same price as an xbox game, which i have bought some crap xbox games "The Club, im looking at you" but for 30 days of a game i was interested in, and i actually turned out to realy enjoyed, it was a good choice.
my advice would be, if you start to jump from mmo to mmo like i did, give it a try, it is completely different to anything i had tried,i think it will surprise you, or at least i hope it will
I'm glad they don't have a free trial because I haven't seen ONE gold spammer and I'd like to keep it that way.

May not see gold spammers (which is good), but DF gold is still being sold for cold hard cash (google it). Seems risky to do in full loot pvp environment, but it's there.
It's actually pretty common knowledge that gold selling takes place, there just isn't any spam.
As for it seeming risky because of the environment, it most certainly is. Which turns out to be quite a benefit for those of us willing to capitalize on that opportunity, assuming you are aware of the spots where farmers tend to flock to.
Many a night I've made a sturdy profit from a pack of wealthy farmers. Farming the farmers, we call it.
Not to mention that gold farmers are leaving Darkfall, at a steady rate. The price of Darkfall gold reflects the difficulty of farming it securely, and honestly who wants to pay $80 for an amount that one can obtain in an hour's playtime??
It's simply not profitable for them, so they are moving to other games.

It really just doesn't seem like a winning prospect for the gold selling sites. Back in my old SB days, we used to make profit off of gold farmers, much like you talk about. But I guess where there is a will (or cash to be made), there is a way.
