Loving EQII.... but...

Hi everyone.

Well I used to play AC back in late 90s early 2000s and loved it, but of course that game all but died.

So gave up on MMORPGS for a while, tried WoW (just didn't like it). Tried Vanguard which would be great if it had a population! I mean half the point of a MMORPG is to vist busy towns etc.

Anyway, tried EQII trail, currently on last couple of days. Mostly I pretty much loved it.

I'm level 21 Shadow Knight, but I've kind of hit a wall. I've been all around, Freeport, the Common Lands and the Darklight wood. But where now? level up a bit more and head to Neklulos Forrest?

Also, where is everyone!?!? With all the expansion packs for EQII I assume it has a big player base, but I rarely see anyone?

Am I missing somthing?

Cheers!

P.s. Im on Runnyeye and in the UK.... should I switch to a new server?

most players are in high level areas or in their guildhall. also with new expansion releasing next week a lot people are taking a short break now. next week will be more busy.

anyway runnyeye is a nice server (i am on it too) but its not one of the busiest servers so there might be servers where it is easier to get groups in lower level ranges.

about areas to go to at lvl 20: there is nektulos forest, thundering steppes and butcherblock mountains for that level range. http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Zones_By_Level shows a list of zones and their intended level range

Il be honest since i dont se anyone else here be:D But EU servers are dead or at least compared to US servers and you should change to those before you get to high lvl. There are alot of diffrent people playing on US servers or at least on my server there is since the guild i am is mostly people from asia but theyr all very good at english so its not like thats a problem and there are also some eu guilds there aswell and the population is big diffrence from eu to us and i was thinking of coming back to the game once the expansion is out and i dont mind mentoring down to help anyone play if theyr realy active

Go to Antonia Bayle, it is the most populated PVE server. People on here will say how their other servers are great, they really aren't unless you know people there already, don't listen to them. There is only one choice for a new player who wants to be on a PVE server, Antonia Bayle. But really, if you want to play with, or against, other people at lower levels your best bet is the PVP server Nagafen. Be warned though, the PVP is brutal and you will get ganked alot if you aren't with a group. I think the game is much more exciting on the PVP server. It feels like there is more incentive to playing at lower levels other than just going as fast as possible to 80.

Anyway, I love EQ2. It is one of the best games out there (except for the performance). Alas, my reason for not playing is because it is so horribly optimized.

playing on the busiest server has also some disadvantages. the busier servers have most performance issues, like database lag, combat lag... especially in the times after expansions this can get really bad. But also seen posts about performance problems on these servers in between the expansions.

performance causes most problems in raids this and the bigger competition for contested raidmobs is why most high end guilds are on less populated servers.

Hard to say whats worse for a new player, the problems with groups or  problems with performance. But I guess people should just decide for them self what they prefer.

To the OP,the problem with eq2 now days is the player base, they have made the game another WOW .

All the players are just plat farming selling loot rights on their level 80 players.Sure many have alt toons, but they prefer to do the plat farming. Not only should there be ZERO satisfaction from buying loot rights, since the best loot in the game was not meant to be bought or sold, those players should be embarrassed for playing the game just like WOW players, nothing but instance loot chasing.

To your question, the leveling /quest zones of old are more disorganized when compared to newer zones. The game no matter where still tends to send you long distances to waste time doing some quests but for the most part, the newer zones are best.Nektulos is an older zone, and for some unknown reason they have totally LITTERED that zone with useless spiders and wolves, you are much better off doing Butcher Block zone.Iv'e only been back playing a few weeks so can't really remember how to get to BB from Commonlands, maybe try the spire in Commonlands or try the boats/bells at nektulos docks or Thundering steppes docks.

Here is a nice things to know >> forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m

There is a nice easy quest for harvesting that gives 17+ gold for each round,it starts at a npc standing in the water in the town of of Shin.He makes you gather some items from each tier zone 1-9....10-40...41-90...ect ect. There is a Mara bell hidden off the Thundering steppes docks.  www.mmorpg-info.org/eq2/odyssey/a-gathering-obsession/

After doing the Butherblock quests, you can hit up both Zek Orcish Wastes and Enchanted Lands both are nice for 30+.There is a Tinkering zone,i cannot remember how to get there ,i think it is through the Faydark zones,it drops a lot of loot that imo was designed to give you lots of loot for transmuting.

One more bit of information for the new player, check out the SPECIALIZED trainer,i think that is what he is called,i only know the location of the one in Gorowyn, but they are in every MAJOR city. These npc's will let you choose a spell to train, low level spells train very quickly 1-2 days,i think you need at least one spell to be expert,so he will train it to Grandmaster for you no cost.

Listen. There are a lot fo fanbois here that love to mislead people about EQ2. EQ2 is a ghost town. They aren't holding out for the new expansion, they aren't at max level(although I'm sure there are more people there than at lvl 21).

EQ2 is a super fun game with a lot of group content with no groups. I could handle soloing EQ2 if they did away with the charade of grouping. As it is now you will miss tons of content, because someone thinks people are around to group with.

There is no reason to change servers they are all empty.

Get used to soloing, and never doing group content until max level. I couldn't, so I quit.
