A Counselor is not a GM.
Its a great program thats worked in a lot of other games though, will do them a lot of good if they put it to good use.
Why is the email "gamemaster@starvault.se" then?
Hmm, maybe because they are the ones that choose the people for counselors. when i send in my app to a department head does not mean i get their job....
This is horrible news. We definitely don't need counselors in game that have the approach/ethics of Perez Hilton.
I don't think we need unprofessional counselors at all?
This.
Remember people, you just say they copy every UO feature, Counselors are yet another one. Counselors are volunteers, they don't get any kind of powers to create or remove items, ban or kick people, etc, they just answer questions and escalate to a GM if needed.
So it isn't "become a GM".
A counselor sounds like it is the same program as say, the Everquest's Guide program which has been around for at least 10 years.
They are not GMs, merely a liaison to players who need minor help. (i.e. stuck under the world and need to be pulled out)
Hm, a pity it's a voluntarily job so you don't get any salary.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
they promote them to GMs later though..
queue GMs boosting their normal characters with stats and items if they cannot be bothered to grind. I have seen it done before
With the jerkoffs they've been using as moderators, this should prove entertaining.
I win!!! LOL@U
basically councelors will be normal players with access to "gameplay questions" portion of the pager system.
We don't have enough money to finish the game, nor enough money to pay for the man power to watch over our game. Hey lets create a guerilla squad of volunteers to help us.. Hey we don't have to pay them and they actually might help once and a while when the real GM checks his messages.
Seriously.
hiring staff without pay :P
pass.
I am glad they still have a chance to get this thing off the ground but it looks slimmer and slimmer all the time. Sure not anything at all like the community made it out to be when it was announced. It looks like the 3rd world version of a mmo to me unfortuanely. But I guess the great ideas come with a cost. Dark&Light had a lot of inovative ideas too.
Good Luck Starvault.
MO isnt the first to do this... "seriously"
Have to pass...so many bodies to bury...so little time.
Now where is that bag of lime?
It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.
and the same blind followers. It boggles the mind how fast people forget.
Out of curiosity, what did you consider innovative in MO?
I win!!! LOL@U
All I can say is we better get some sweet robes...
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.
EAT ME MMORPG.com!
UO used to have voluenteer staff untill some arsehole found some loophole in the law to sue EA for not paying him and EA had to cancel their councillor program.
This was because the counselors were reimbursed by having free accounts. $10-$15 spread over a whole month comes out to be alot less than minimum wage. If they had not given anything of monetary value, there would have been no problem.
P.S. Regarding my previous post in this thread, I was responding to the news that the OP was applying for a counselor position under an alternate name, not the program (He has since edited that out)
Yes, do not want to let Maerlyn know I have applied for it under my alt name.
Actually IIRC, the issue started with AOL forum moderator who were given free AOL subscriptions in exchange for moderating the forums. The judgement went against AOL, and the counselor positions in UO were similar enough that the same ruling probably applied to them.
