Is the "fear" of fraud going to kill online business ???

Okay - So first up this is a bit of a rant so apologies for that - I'm not trying to Troll anyone.

So I have been trying to buy a copy of STO as my pre-order didn't ship as they didn't have enough copies  (How fricking stupid is that  - Hey Mr Software House - I've sold 10,000 copies of your game on pre-order - But don't bother with that  - Just ship me 7,000 ??????????)

I can't get a copy in retail anywhere (Again - Go figure ,,,,,)

So I bit the bullet and went for a direct download.... (Giving up the "cool" gear that might have made it worth shelling out....)

So tell me why it costs the same for a DD which doesn't come with the t-shirt, art work etc ???

But heres the real bugbear...

All the sites I tried either need to confirm the order verbally (Yeah - like I can get hold of Tech support out of hours .....)

Or

Won't accept Paypal  (Okay - I understand there maybe a fee issue here....)

Or

Need to confirm the transaction with my card issuer before giving me the key  (Please wait as this could take serveral hours and will be sent in a seperate email - I kid you not.)

When I contacted Cryptic about this they said there was nothing they could do about it  (For this read - or care about doing anyhting about it.).

One of the sites wanted me to give them my card details and Paypal details over an unsecure form before they would talk to me (Yeah right guys....)

I tried to buy through Steam but they wouldn't let me log in as I don't which password I used as I haven't used them for a year or so and then wanted me to create ANOTHER account to access technical support

(Cos they outsource it.... - Anyone figured that all this outsourcing must still be employing support people that YOU should be employing to give YOUR customers KNOWLEDGABLE support rather than simply being a small number in a larger whole or employing far east call centre staff who don't even speak english as a first language and just run through a script. to tick boxes - "I am sorry I could not help you today and your account has not been charged as we couldn't be bothered to attempt to solve your problem or even read your email but at least I can add you to my call sheet.")

Is it me ?????? - I thought online transactions were supposed to be quick and easy ???

Recover your Steam password, that's all you're ever going to need, or at least what you will mostly need when you want to purchase games digitally.

As I have to pay something around $10 to $30 for shipping not to mention it can take like a month for the product to arrive and not every retailer likes to send international shipments (or even accept international payments), I've gotten used to digital purchases mostly through Steam.
