ear candles or cones? I'm going to try these things for the first time and I am wondering what other people have to say about them.

I thought about it a little while back...
Then I read this:

"Water jet devices such as used for dental care have also been used for ear wax removal. While generally effective, this method is judged unpleasant by many patients. There is also danger of perforation of the ear drum using these devices. Special tips can be used to reduce or eliminate this risk. "
I dont know why it is judged unpleasant. I dont remember it being unpleasant.
I just read about what ear candling was supposed to be and I am skeptical as to effective it is given how it's supposed to work. I just don't think it works. It's more of a gimmick then anything if you ask me.
If you want to remove ear wax you can just go to your doctor and have it flushed out. I had this done once when I got an ear infection and the doc wanted to make sure that it isn't just a bunch of wax buildup or anything. Some people find it unpleasant like Thrakk said especially if the doc is an idiot and uses cold water. It's said to trigger vertigo if the temperature change is too rapid, or at least that's what he told me so he got some luke-warm water and a somewhat intimidating metal syringe that was rather harmless and used it to flush my ear. I had no issues with it apart from feeling like I got water in my ear after going swimming for a little bit that went away.
I just question the claims that ear wax can have such a "profound" effect on the rest of the human body.... as some of the leading practitioners claim it might.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Well, I just finished trying it and I am sad to say I'm heading off to the hospital.
Just kidding, but honestly I don't feel any different than before I started. It did feel warm kind of like when you lay your head on a heating pad, which would work just as good if you want to warm your inner ear. The only thing I notice that is different is when I put my finger in my ear and then smell it my finger wreaks of smoke.
That's not me but that is basically what I looked like while doing it. LMAO.

I've used them twice, both times they have had little effect besides feeling a bit nice. When you use them you expect too have a lof of heat sensation, wax to come streaming forth and the infection to lessen or clear, well that doesn't happen. Truth be told they really don't do much and are a bit disappointing.

After reading the link from the second post I think I will not dare try it anymore. Instead I'll go to a spa and relax.
What a strange picture. It looks as if he's smoking a big old spliff from his ear! What a good party trick that would be! And probably way more fun that whatever that ear wax thing is that he's really doing.
Better off going to the Dr and getting your ears syringed with water. Much more effective then the ear candles.
ya I had to get that done several years ago. I had some serious ear wax issue, messing with my equilibrium and just plain annoying to hear fluid squashing around.
I was using an earwax removal system for about a week or so and the fluid in my ears just got worse. Problem is, its hard to do by yourself and I was living alone at the time. I kept dropping stuff in and nothing would come out. I could hear the fluid rushing around even more so I had to go to the dr. and sure enough he takes a syringe and blasts me in the ear holding a pan under it. I couldnt believe the crap that came out and the pressure it relieved.
anyway go get a "bausch and lomb earwax removal system" and use warm water with it. Get someone to help you flush it out and you may save yourself a trip to the doctor.

Never have and never will. Leave the wax removing to the doctors and specialists.
