I don't think there's an existing MMO that you could simply remove ranged combat from, but if one was to change the nature of the combat mechanics to be more like a traditional beat-em-up with tons of combos and counters (think Tekken) then I'd be inclined to give it a go.

It could work, but why? Unless there's a really good reason, it just sounds like you're arbitrarily limiting the variety of abilities in the game.
My question, as well. What would be the benefit to the players?
