FFXIVCore Scandal

People join fan sites mainly to discuss and share experiences. If you joined FFXIVCore in hopes of eventually nabbing a beta key, you might be out of luck. The administrator of the site, Zyuu, was recently exposed arranging the sale of FFXIV beta keys for money. Word travels fast, and by now Square Enix would have heard about this incident. It is now extremely unlikely FFXIVCore will ever get beta keys for Final Fantasy XIV now. If you joined primary to get a key, you might want to start looking at other sites.

Fan site admin caught selling beta keys

The largest problem is the guy is still strutting around the website with title and authority. Why hasn't Curse fired him yet? The worst part is their community doesn't seem to care. The guy tried to sell access to a beta. Betas are meant to help developers find bugs in unreleased games. By charging an admission fee, it insults the community who actually want to help bug test, and it insults the developers who give keys in the first place.

I firmly believe in people getting a second chance. Zyuu (as he currently calls himself today) blew that chance. It's now fair game to air out his past identities which also show a history of lacking integrity

Zyuu, as he currently calls himself, used to be in a big WoW guild, Nihilum. Back then he went by the handle "Awake". It turns out he got kicked out eventually for, guess what, selling gold ads on the guild's website and pocketing the money. Did Curse know he had that kind of history when they bought FFXIVCore? Google search Awake and Nihilum to see for yourself.

Square Enix both at their offices at El Segundo, California, and the ones at Wimbledon,

London, have been contacted. The CEO of Curse was officially notified of this incident, so it's now up to them to do the right thing.

Relieve Zyuu "a.k.a. Awake" of all responsibilities associated with employment at Curse.

As much as that sucks, i thought SE was never going to had out keys? they said they were doing everything through the beta site. From what i remeber they never had site hand out keys for FFXI, it was all done through them and possibly their "premier" sites (aka ones they monitor and aprrove of) so its likely the non premier community site like core wont' obtain keys unless SE puts some sort of direction behind it.

I visit FFXIVcore myself, but purely for the podcast done by the guys at comic earth. I mainly go to Eorzeapedia.com for forum talk, i trust them alot more becuase they have been around for FFXI with well know podcats and such like petfoodalpha and limitbreak radio, that and most people use the 'wiki" that they contribute to.

I'm apart of the community, and this sort of thing would be something I care about. Do you have a link to the post, or is that a private message? A screenshot is nice but I could have used Photoshop for that.

Maybe it is their main. Yes this may have been their first post but the account was made in 07.   Ive seen people that had their first post and they've had their accounts since 05.

Yeah people should start messaging curse to fire that guy. The things people will do for money just boggles my  mind sometimes.

Sure, the original communication was a series of PMs between a member and the guy in question.

SCANDAL!!!! such a big word, for such a little situation. I really dont think this was info that you needed to jump on an alt account in order to broadcast this info for. Maybe it was bad for him to do that, maybe it wasnt, but the fact that you are deispalying this info on an alt account tells me that you have hidden agendas in this, and for that, i give no respect to it.

Well first off this is likely not his alt, look at his date joined (07) if he was here using an "alt" it would much more likely of been made recently. Second this is kind of a scandal...yes not as bad as some things, but for an MMO forum type deal on  a major game...you can call it a scandal. This person is possibly doing somthing to make a quick buck, and screwing over his own community (showing how little he cares about them and the game and just about money). This story is on many site already and "Zyuu" seems to be a bit sketchy from his lock out post.

He will prob lose his affiliation with Curse, and things will go on.  I don't think he ever had the power to give out keys really with a company like SE, but whatever.

I'm slightly shocked tbh, Awake is a stand up guy.

  • BureykuBureyku Member Posts: 488

Damn he could have just held the keys if he had any chance of getting them and sold them on ebay privately for probably 500$.

    Ahh lets not over react..

If his employers and community members can let him go with a sharp telling off and a smacked hand, then fine, so should we. Who cares?  This isnt like Clinton getting blown in the Whitehouse...

It's not like any 'normal' members outside of a small clique ever gonna get to see beta keys from any fansite anyhow. The whole issue dosent even effect 99.9% of users or their reality of getting into the beta from this site.

It's finally over, as some have mentioned. The unfortunate consequence is it reveals many are willing to turn a blind eye to some serious lack of judgment. He comically tosses a pie in his face, his boss, DoranM, places him on probation, and a good portion of the replies actually see him as the victim. The worst of it is some even acted like it didn't matter the slightest. If you dipped your hand in the register at your work, you would be fired without question. Remember, he was a paid employee, Curse really is a privately funded company. The fact that people don't understand the seriousness of the matter are likely not aware that an employee was stealing from his company. Try that at your job and see what happens.

In the end, the whistle blower still hasn't received a proper apology for the attacks on his credibility. Some sites at least tried to figure things out, other sites wanted nothing to do with it, and some even dismissed the issue as a "war" between rival fan sites.

As they say, truth is stranger then fiction. The truth in this case was very strange indeed.

Well a Curse representative posted that Zyuu is currently on probation, but it should most probably go further than that because the only reason Zyuu came clean and is making the apology is because he got caught when FFXIV Core community members exposed the whole selling keys scheme.  If he didn't get caught he would still be trying to sell non-existent keys to any rube willing to hand over $100.

At least Clinton got a blow job out of the deal--the guys who were going to give $$ for beta over at FFXIV Core aren't getting jack shit.

I'm really surprised at the people saying, "This is no big deal." How is it not a big deal when a community leader (he's the site owner, or was before Curse bought them out, or whatever their involvement is) is trying to take money from his community members for something he doesn't even actually have? I mean, he says right in that screenshot that he wants $100, and that he doesn't want to hear anything about "when do you get beta?" It's like, "I'll put you on my list, no guarantees, but give me your dead presidents."

Seriously, the people who see this as nothing amaze me. To me, a total lack of integrity is not "nothing."

Am I the only one that feels the ones paying $100 or even $200 for a beta key without any guarantee (it would be in the form of a donation) are fools?

But yeah, making this kind of thing can lead people into getting or feeling scammed right now or later, promises of beta keys, lifetime subscriptions, gold selling/power leveling, etc.

They're morons, to put it bluntly.

And from what I gathered, this isn't the first time "Zyuu" has done something alone these lines.  Heard he pocketed a nice amount when he was with the WoW guild Nihilim before being caught and subsequently booted.

If he was a real fan of the game, and a community leader that he's made out to be, he would never, ever ask for "donations" for beta keys.  When a developer sends out a number of keys to fansites to distribute, they expect them to go to the fans of the game, without having to pay a penny.  The fact that he wants to take advantage of these free keys is nothing short of pathetic.

If he really wants to gain back his credibility, I want him to say, bluntly, how if they do get beta keys, he will not reserve them for "donaters". The fact that curse let him off with just a probation is pathetic.  I've never harbored any ill feeling towards curse, but this is pathetic.

Personally I would have booted the guy rather than give him a second chance. One thing I don't tolerate is corrupt money-hungry people who take advantage of the ignorant.

People like that really make me sick.

In the end they should have fired him and replaced him with someone who actually cares about the community and the game, instead they and many of the forum goes give this guy a pass, like it was no big deal.....makes me sad.

This is a lot worse and from what ive seen on the "apology" post even the mods are say "the man made a mistake, he apologized, lets just go back to enjoying the site" which i find dispicable.
