Why would you play this over WoW?

I'm passing on Allods because of how they got the death thing and cash shop setup... and the style.

But to answer the question... Because it doesn't have a subscription

Hell, even the tweaks to similar classes that give them far more depth than their knuckle roll counterparts in WoW, being able to apply skill points yourself and the general versatility of the classes available, or the flat out more unique classes like the mesmer/psion.
The list could go on. Allods takes itself considerably more seriously, and actually has a story to tell that isn't hamfisted together so that they can base expansion content off it. Additionally, I have considerably more respect for the developers, as they have been making compromises instead of flat out pandering to the community, to maintain the vision of the game while still keeping it fun. They don't want a minimap in the game because it kills the immersion and hurts the "exploration" feel as you're always looking at a little box with arrows instead of pulling out your map or putting areas to memory (like we used to), but are considering allowing for a transparent map overlay due to the sheer amount of whining from the WoW transfers Allods has acquired recently. Personally, I would have preferred they held to their guns a bit more, but they didn't say "screw the feel/philosophy of the game, lets add a minimap and a bunch of other crap so they'll buy stuff" like Activision would have in a second.
People need to stop the Allods=WoW comparisons. They look similar. They are nothing alike.

Fanboi alert! Allods is so much WoW clone that it can be. There is some nice "unique" features but the base is more from WoW than any other MMO. You seem to think Allods character system is so much better but it hardly is, you can already start seeing certain uber builds coming. Also there seems to be no class balance which they will need to fix. Lore, please you making me laugh. Copying WoW isn't bad thing, but they didn't bother refine ideas enough to make it unique game. Personally I have little faith on F2P games, they often start fine but ones they figure out most don't want to pay they buff CS too much and ruin game.

Oh boy, let me guess WoW was your first MMO and you think everything with a quest is a wow clone. Even tho I know I am right I am sure youll give me a bogus list of MMO's you have played. Theres enough difference that sets it apart from WoW.

With that said, I have been playing since CBT4, I personally like the game alot, minus the fact that its a little over crowded atm, but that will settle down on its own later. Now being the sceptic that I am at heart, I am very well aware that I could be still under the impression of the "new game" feel. I always hammer reviews  who only play for a little while, its just impossible to write a real reveiw w/o haveing a lot of hours under your belt in the game. IMO real reviews dont give pros and cons, the writer needs to tell you how it is and leave it up to the reader to determine if its a pro or a con. I am working on a review but i wont post it until i get some good quality time in.

Edit: I am not going to lie but the Cash shop could be a real deal breaker, however you cant listen to the rumors of what items will be in it, because no one knows except gpatato. I highly doubt that our CS will be the exact same as the russian CS. So if your worried about the CS items just wait until the CS is opened.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)

    Yes there will be weapons.

    Yes there will be armor.

    Yes there will be potions.

Yes there will be a 50% experience nerf before beta ends.

The publishers have done this in every other game that they own and this will not be an exception.

If we reversed time for a moment, and Allods came out before WoW, then people would be migrating towards WoW, yes even though Allods was free.  So the simple answer that people prefer Allods over WoW because it is free doesn't really hold water.

Allods is reminiscent of WoW in so many areas, but what you're getting is an all new environment, new classes, new spells, news characters, new setting, news weapons, new storyline, everything is new.  Essentially the answer is because WoW is old.  People are WoW out.  Been there done that, ready for something else.  Allods is a good product no doubt.  But on an even playing field, it doesn't hold a candle next to WoW.

That doesn't make much sense to me. But I might be reading it wrong.

  • With the prices released in the item shop there is absolutely no reason to play this game, what a cruel joke, unbelievable.

This + free (at least no $50+$15/mnth commitment)

And the CS is supposibly going to be nothing like RoMs were you need it to really get good end game/pvp gear. I can acutally tell already that its nothing like RoM in terms of stats, and gear which was a big aspect of RoM and the CS.

Well see  though. I'm guessing they are releasing the CS after OB (which is basically release/headstart anyway)

I could deffinitly see myself playing awhile though for sure.

Only thing is that there really arent awhole lot of people playing for it being OB and only having 2 servers....they are crowded but not that crowded. I don't think many people know about allods tbh. I know they spent like 12m on it so will be interesting to see what the CS is like and if allods will be around for awhile.

If you had played it, you'd know that even a small change in stats could make or break the game for you. It's quite notorious at the beginning when you're still getting freshman gear, for example.

I have played since CB4. If you had played RoM? you would know that allods is nothing like it in terms of gear (which is all I said) were as what drops is what you get in allods. You don't have to poor money into the CS to really stat out your gear by ripping stats like in RoM using the AT, +ing gear with jewels, ect. Never said stats werent important.

Anyway with them releasing  part of the CS today it makes RoMs CS look dirt cheap lmao. If they dont drasticly change the prices game will be dead within a month.

After playing Allods for a short while, and reading numerous player-reviews, random threads and website/blog previews, I find myself wondering - why would I play this over WoW?
WoW has a HUGE operating budget. WoW has a smooth-as-butter game engine that runs as well on my MacBook on medium settings as it does on my gaming PC on max. Allods has the same style of combat, with it's own ideas thrown in, but without 5+ years of refinement behind it. Allods has done a nice job creating lore, but WoW's lore is HUGE and incredibly developed by comparison (I'm not a lore guy, just saying).
WoW end-game consists of gathering, farming, instance running, PvP and raiding. Allods will likely be the same, but along with almost every other "F2P" game, will likely involve shelling out hundreds of dollars to be competitive (A la Runes of Magic). I prefer games to reflect dedication of players, not the thickness of their wallets.
So in the end, I'm enjoying Allods so far, but seeing as I'm many hours in and yet to see any ships, any incredibly original ideas, or incredible features to differentiate itself, I can't see any reason to play it over WoW. Unless of course you can't afford a sub.
    Thoughts? Opinions?

    Both games are equally good

    Now....

    Because i play MMOs casually.

I might play it for a week, than pause for a week, than play for a day....and so on.

With limited time i will never reach cap or be competitive anyway. So I will never need to buy expensive items in shop.

So I will be playing literally for free , with maybe few dollars spent.

    On the other hand

To even play WOW i will need to buy game + 2,3 expansions. Thats over 100$ + 15$ to be even able to log in (even though i dont play that often)

    Well.... you do the math.

    I always said.

If you are hardcore player - P2P is good

If you are casual - F2P is good

  • Wow is not that expensive to buy, and even though you do not play often, when you reach level 20-30++ in allods you will become very frustrated when you do actually play, and if you die a couple of times, be prepared to throw cash at the game. So id you do that a few times a month you will most likely pay the same amount as a monthly sub or more. It could be cheaper in some cases also, but not by a lot, so in the end the price will at best be marginally cheaper, I'm pretty sure of that. I hope you are right though.
