Hi!
First, let me introduce myself: I’m Eliane Tonkens, 24 years old, from Holland. Online also known as Silah, but since I’m here for reasons related to my study, I thought it made sense to also post my real name:) I’m a student at the University of Amsterdam, and working on my final research to get my masters degree in Social Psychology.
During my study, I’ve spent quite a lot of time on gaming. Over the years, I’ve played Maple Story and World of Warcraft, and tried out more MMORPG (9 Dragons, Silkroad Online, Perfect World, and probably others I forgot about). This, combined with the fact that I study Psychology, got me interested in doing research on this subject. If something takes up so much of your time, as a psychologist, you might as well find out why/how that could happen. And since I’m allowed to do this as my final research project, I consider myself a lucky person!
That is, if I can get enough people to respond to my questionnaire… This could be great research, but no research is good without respondents. So you can really make a difference by filling in my questionnaire. It takes 15 minutes max, and you would REALLY be helping me out! Of course the whole questionnaire is fully anonymous. And you can easily get to it via this link:

Ofcourse, students are very rich! Just so you know, students don't get any money for doing research, and have no funding, so sorry, can't help you there.. Please just fill in the questionnaire if you want, and if you don't want/trust it, then don't. I'd rather be answering questions about the research than about the fact if I can be trusted or not. It just seems pretty pointless.. If you don't trust it, don't fill it in, and nobody gets hurt:)

I went through the research and found no keyloggers or something.

Thanks! And no, they're supposed to be like this:) I only use questionnaires that were validated before. It's just the way psychologists ask questions, so they get reliable answers.. May seem annoying, but to me they're very useful!

I had this exact feeling while answering, psychologists always use this kind of pattern, although they usually hide this among the questions, your survey was more, direct?
Even on some job applications, they will ask you if you would snitch on a worker stealing using several diffrent scenario. This is a very common form of quesioning. In all honesty i think they were really only asking a few questions in the survey, they just used 100 variations of the questions to do it.
Oh and when i answerd that i very strongly like controlling my character, it wasnt about a power trip controlling someone else, its just fun as hell to run around shootin fireballs or swinging a blade.
I think some of the questions were misleading like that.
I think there should have been more question about in game relationships, ive heard of more than a few players that end up dating/getting married to other players they met in game, which i find odd, as i do as much as i can to keep my real life and game life seperate, i think the blurring of the two is very dangerous especially in younger kids who havent developed and real world social skills yet. I think it would help your research to know who actually develops love intrests in game and who takes that further into the real life, and out of that how many relationships birthed from mmo's last.
Oh and i will be accepting $500 energency loans from my in game friends across all games i play =p
Very ambiguous questioning and i'm aware of asking the same question twice but one issue that is not resolved is that there are times i want to do different things. At different games i was more PvP oriented as opposed to PvE oriented. Based on your wording i wasn't sure on my responses. Nonetheless, good luck with the research, i have a feeling the data won't come out very fruitful.

Thanks for the feedback and filling it in! I know some questions may seem misleading or double, but that's how they're meant to be.. And yes, there are so many things I would've loved to research too, but I found the questionnaire quite long already, so I had to narrow it down:( Who knows, maybe someone will use this for future research;)
and @Cryomatrix, I guess you're aiming for the questions in the end with the PvE/PvP comment? Guess there's always something a little bit more appealing than the other in the end, but yes, I can imagine you don't always want to go around bashing people:P Fruitful or not, I'm starting to get really curious about the data! Need about 100 more replies and I'll be ready! At least the more replies, the more reliable it gets:)
