Ya, real clear I hate Wow. Read the whole thread before posting that I am a Wow hater. I have no opinion on Wow one way or the other.

Here is the complete and integral original wording of Morhaime:

"The issue is that much of the low level player content in World of Warcraft today remains the same as it was when we first launched in 2004. New players to the games do not in large part experience the games best content and design until they reach the end game.

Our research shows that trial players who play World of Warcraft pass level 10 are much more likely to stick with the game for a long time. Currently, only about 30% of our trial players make it past this threshold. So anything we can do to improve the new player experience is a huge opportunity for us.

With Cataclysm we will be overhauling the early gaming experience for players, bringing all of the content in World of Warcraft up to our current design standards and ensuring that even new players to the game will experience the best work of our development team.

This will also provide additional replay ability for our veterans players as well. In the long run, we hope that this effort will capture more players and drive continued growth. Development on Cataclysm is proceeding smoothly and we're making great progress due release in the back half of 2010."

So it is clear CATA will bring the "state of the art" to the basic leveling system of WOW in 2010.

    ---

As to the number of subscriptions: Blizzard made 329 million US dollars in the last 3 months of 2009 alone...

That was on par with the earnings of the first quarter of 2009, which results in ... (surprise) a 11.5 million subscribers.

They have the money earnings, they have the stats, they have the Xfire samples, they have the NPD sales charts, they have YOU paying and playing it for ...

1.2 billion dollars each fucking year.

Reference: (for the Blizzard specific earnings and the statements above)

    http://seekingalpha.com/article/187939-activision-blizzard-inc-q4-2009-earnings-call-transcript?source=feed&page=6

Get over it: the MONEY is there to prove it. And next time when making up theories, go up and look at the original wording and the context instead of looking at meaningless headlines.

    That's called research before commenting.

It's funny how the OP assumes that every WoW player actually played the free trial, believe it or not most sales are done through word of mouth, in the business world this has the biggest impact.

I never have a doubt wow have as much subscriber as Blizzard state in their financial report.

Only thing I'm suspicious is how they count player who pay by the hour.

They are counted for a month, if said account is logged in for one time in a month he is listed as subscriber, which is fine because there would be no accurate way to count them otherwise.

So trials are excluded from their sub numbers.
    /EoT

And you believe all this because Blizzard said so?

    ok..

I also like to be selfminded in my thinking and not fully trusting of a company just cause they said so.

Oh I see.  So you don't want to trust blizzard when they say something, but you have no trouble trusting a comedy news web blog that reports on what someone at blizzard said.  Did I get that right?  If the words come from the mouth of blizzard, then it is a lie.  If someone at G4TV reports on what someone at blizzard said, then it is trustworthy and using free trial metrics can be used to prove blizzard lied about their subscription numbers.

The one question I have for you is, did you even watch the mmo report you are quoting?  The one where there first sentence from the "reporters" mouth was that the blizzard executive confirmed that blizzard still has 11.5 million subscribers?

I dont need to backtrack further than this thread to realize you are a 12 year old with downs, that got suppah angry when his WoW trial  expired and cant play it anymore because "mommy wont give me no monies".

If you knew me you'd know I wholeheartly dislike WoW (the game). Thats it,plain and simple, I like games different than WoW. I dont feel the urge to act as an imbecile and claim bullshit to debase it, tho.

    I leave that to you.

Wow this thread is missing the "its got millions of subscribers so that means it must be a great game" statements.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Ultimatly I no longer care what happens with WoW . Its increasingly being aimed at young children in the 8-12 bracket . They proberbly account in no small way for its continued success although i seriously doubt it has 11.5 million subs still (whatever Blizzards propaganda says). Its also playable on low end systems which makes it popular . Kudos to any adult that can put up with all the childish arguments in this virtual school yeard . I'd  rather play a less popular game with a good and more mature community myself . Although I do miss the PVP in WoW . (still the best around in a fantasy game) . If they implimented 18+ servers I would return .Very unlikly though .

QFT.  Although, I too would have to say my return is unlikely, even WITH adult servers.  The game itself is as big of an issue to me as the community, but the community is so horrid any more...I just have no desire to ever look back. Therefore...I DO play a less popular game...actually TWO of them. And I don't give a rat's ass what anyone else thinks of it.  I'm way beyond the stage of needing approval from others on my recreational choices.  LOL ;)

You people cant even agree on what to disagree, one time you people say WoW is no longer an MMORPG and that there is no interaction, the other you say you cant put up with childish behaviour,

There are children on every MMO not just WoW, you are very naive if you think any games does not have these childish characters, every MMO has it and will always have.

The same way you dont need other people approval, people who play WoW also do no need you approval to keep enjoying the game. I for one wouldnt play a game from a company that is dishonest and tries to milk their customers at every chance (SOE, EQ2) and I just cant be arsed to play a game that is just mediocre at best like FE.

There are FAR fewer in other games than in WoW. If you just look at it from a ratio perspective alone...a game with such a large sub base is going to, by default, have more asshats. That's just how the law of averages WORKS. lol But yes, I agree with you....every game has a FEW. WoW just has a small country's population worth...and they're so nice and evenly spread out amongst all the servers. How wonderful.  YAY!

Some people aren't at all bothered by it. I just happen to be one of the people who cringes at it. Doesn't make your fave game WRETCHED or anything...it's just not for me any more. I enjoyed it for the first few years immensely. It just doesn't appeal to me anymore...it's really no big deal. We all have opinions....

I have not seen anyone even SUGGEST that you need anyone else's approval to enjoy your game. That would be silly.

I couldn't care in the least what you want to play.  It doesn't affect me. And what I like to play....doesn't affect you either. I would expect you to feel free to also dislike the games that I enjoy.  And you're welcome to voice that opinion as loudly as you like. :)

As a matter of fact...I would be QUITE surprised if you liked the same games that I do...shocked even. And the fact that you wouldn't play a game made by SoE doesn't dissuade me from enjoying it at all, nor does your disdain for FE make IT less enjoyable to me. You and I are DIFFERENT PEOPLE!  /faints  YES...can you believe that?!

By the way....there are LOADS of people that won't go near an SoE game with a 10 foot pole. And I even cringed when I found out they're handling "The Agency" MMO, but....none of that makes me enjoy EQ2 any less....

Are our likes and dislikes SUPPOSED to be changed by what other people think?? Because, if so...I somehow missed that memo somewhere along the way in my life.....

Shhh girlgeek!!!! All the really entertaining forum activity here is based on forcing some poor person to change their ideas/game based on how loudly (or repeatedly) they get shouted at by someone else. Don't let them know it's all for naught!

That's like...like breaking the fourth wall or something, the universe may fold in on itself at any moment...

Sorry, just couldn't resist. If everyone accepted that very commonsense fact, there'd be nothing going on here but virtual tumbleweeds whislting through the ether. Forums thrive on people wrong-headedly thinking they can talk the other guy/gal around, drives me nuts sometimes, but, truthfully, I'd miss it.
