What a sham of a company, thats about all I will say on it.
That's the truth, when they started expanding to other vaporware like the 'Firesky' network it looked even more like a pump and dump scam.. Whoever set up Cheyenne Mountain and Firesky probably had a nice fat paycheck ever week up until the day they filed. All that investor money is lining the pockets of a handful of fly-by-nighters. I imagine their developers were getting paid peanuts, or not getting paid at all (which was the case for awhile)
I always hate to see a MMO developer go under. Maybe another company will snatch up SGW..?
They don't want SGW, it wasn't that great.. they should start over from scratch with a fresh slate.. as it stands MGM should be pulling the plug on their rights to the IP so someone else can develop it, someone that isn't a scammer...
WEll this company is doa, I sure would not buy anything from them at this point, thing are going from bad to worse. We can only hope that they turn over stargate to somebody who can do something with it other than frack it up
Another one bites the dust... maybe. The success rate for gaming companies appears to be abysmal. Anyone know why that is? You would think with a solid name like Star Gate, even a half-way decent game developer could make things work and turn a tidy profit. Is it truly that much harder to for game development companies to succeed compared to other types of businesses? Or do they just have people leading these companies who don't have the skills to run a business in the first place? I love SG-1 the TV show and was kind of looking forward to at least trying SGW. Maybe some miracle will occur and it will eventually make it to release. Oh well...
Perhaps if they made StarGate resistance a actuall game, instead it was just a simple mod to the unreal engine, and sorry have played better Star Gate mods on unreall 4. It was to identicle to Unreal, didn't feel like it was StarGate at all, atleast it didn't to me.
I really hope a good game developer buys out the rights for SGW. I have been looking forward to this game for sooooooo long, and it will kill me if I can't go exploring! I mean it just seems even more endless now with SG:U in the middle its season. Owell, hope it doesn't disappear.
Many of us have been waiting for this to happen since 2008, with all the capitol for SGW spent on pyramid schemes and a plethora of studios that produced nothing, over spending everywhere including the graphics engine in which they couldn't decide so purchased two and then the accusations of CME being a ponzi scheme to get the chairman rich.
Well now Gary has had his friend Kieth take him to court to hold off the investors court cases where he would have to pay millions and all the millions he owes in back taxes to the IRS. This is such a farce and a pathetic shambles and a slap in the face to all SG fans waiting for SGW.
Forty million bucks and 5 years down the line several court actions and mass layoffs and they released a C standard FPS that will no doubt be shut down in a few months! However the faithfull still sing the songs of SGW and positive spin on all of this on the official forums, much like watching the band playing on the Titanic as the salty water starts to rise. I think thier collars should be getting soaked by now!
I hope the next time some snake oil salesman tries something like this again in the MMORPG industry that everyone including the sites such as this will actually say something. Rather than what they all did in the case of this company and just turn a blind eye because no one had the nads to actually do some real reporting or journalism outside of softball interviews!
Thank god for the players that were switched on and posted the facts in the forums and stated what was really going on behind the scenes of this fly by night operator!

Your so right about all this, we could all see last year they were going down the tubes when the first law suit came, something about landscape he he. Then we heard about folks not being paid and other stuff.
The good news is if that fellow owes back taxes to the IRS bankruptcy does not clear that out, when you owe the feds you owe the feds, and trust me the irs will show up and take everyting you have down to your last dollar if you owe them. All the bankruptcy if approved will do is bilk the creditors out of millions of dollars. However I got a good feeling this judge will look at all this and declare fraud in wich case the creditors will be able to take appart teh company piece by piece, and that is what I hopes happens.
MMO fans have been out ahead of this story for quite a while now. Heck, I remember a blogger/poster here talking about all of the shenanighans with this guy, and his company, a LONG while ago. He got lambasted by some, supported by others...but, strangely, it never triggered any deeper looks by "reporters".
Funny that the "news" division of this site, and other mmo sites, never got out ahead of this story. It was always canned interviews and press releases, forum posts reviews, and day-late news...never any investigative journalism. All that access to the industry, its insiders and fans, and this site (and others) can't "break" the story about the "ponzi scheme" taking place? Makes me question the purpose of a "news" section/division.
How embarassing would it be if a regualar newspaper or business report got more "inside details" on this event than the mmo-news sites? Outsiders with no real knowledge of the biz beating gaming reporters to the meat of significant gaming story would, IMO, be quite shameful.
I just didn't know the depth of the trouble at CME. Thank you all for putting a light on it. I figure nobody had the legal ability to report on the actions of this company in fear of counter legal action. I do feel for the faithful but this dream needs to close before it becomes an even bigger nightmare. I also feel for MGM for being duped by some slick pitch-man. The studio really could use this investment return and the SG ip have a nice ongoing expossure. What a waste.
From what you beta folks are saying, It looks like there isn't much to build from with this game. Its not like STO from Perpetual. A company would do best to start from scratch. Sad thing is nobody has money to start again. I really loved this IP and would want good things for its creators. Damn shame.
Im sorry but I don't get what soe haas to do with cme going under. CME did it to themsleves.
Refering to Sony buying the rights to SGW. Although I wouldn't mind it, but I do want some company any company to pick it up and continue. It looks so promising.
Im sorry but I don't get what soe haas to do with cme going under. CME did it to themsleves.
Next SOE title: StarGate Worlds?, dunno that's how I read the Next S.O.E title incoming, not sure how you made that up as anything to do with CME going under, care to explain Eric?
Don't think SOE would even be able to aquire the IP, but regardless just saying what I read and thought Mundus meant.

Well thats is why I asked the question about soe, as I could not connect the dots myself the guy who said soe in the first place replied that soe might buy them, I did not say that.
Heck if I were any game company at the moment I would stay clear until the dust settles out.
Woah, woah, woah. Does this mean that the Stargate Resistance servers are coming offline? Why the hell did they release it if they filed for bankruptcy 3 days beforehand?! AND WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TO STARGATE WORLDS?!?!
This all smells of big business scamming.
First figure in that the site mentions FORMER CEO Gary what ever his name is,so who or how to someone else get control of the business? Then after you figure out who, then try to figure why they instantly file for bankruptcy after doing so?
Correct me if i am wrong, but this would mean they would get zero profits from any sales? Is there something here in legal terms that made them release something?it somehow benefits them by releasing a product then claiming bankrupt?Or was this as simple as releasing a product with ZERO intentions of supporting it?They merely wanted some quick sales to refund all the money owed to the workers for back pay, then once they do that game done gg cya later?
Going bankrupt any sooner, the employees could recover nothing correct?I would think this sort of legal shmoozing would considered illegal in courts no,considering they had every intention of ripping off the consumer just to recover some pay checks.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Ironically, they claimed bankrupt 3 days before release, not the other way around.

*Sigh* I wish someone gave me 40 millions to make a game instead, I wouldn't have messed up this badly (but this makes even SIGIL look competent).
But no surprise here, CME have acted weird all the time, I hope someone competent buy up the rights for the game instead. And since it will be rather action based I hope it will be a company that gets that part right, Maybe Valve, they have the experience to make a good action based game.
It's a shame. This game had great promise as well as a solid IP.
This is just another example of what a poor shape the MMORPG genre is in.
This isn't about MMO's or MMORPG's, its about bad business and someone bilking investors out of alot of money.
Not only that but what about the folks who pre ordred SGR, I sure hope they can get their money back otherwise it is just not the investors its an entire player base getting taken to the cleaners.
SGW if not dead, would need to be stellar to get this company ANY kind of name for future projects. This is one of those times where it sucks to be a fan b/c you want it so badly that you're willing to read bad press every now and again and still feel hopeful. But seeing EVERYTHING that's going on, it just screams, "NO MAS!"
I'm one of those fans that would love to see them rise from this garbage to produce something that's fun and all, I just don't see it happening. Businesses need to be able to produce and maintain their companies on a budget. If neither are accomplished, nothing can be said about this being an actual business. All of that drama to come out with a third-person shooter with minimal actual game isn't actually meeting their business goal.
I loved the Stargate shows so much that I own the Stargate SG-1 series on DVD, but I've lost real hope this will ever turn out to be a MMO that I'll play.
This company has been in trouble for quite awhile now. Not sure why this would be a surprise.

The story is more interesting , as there is the "severs ties to Gary Whiting" part.
