Help =( LaunchPad doesn't connect...

Hello, I just bought the DVD version of Everquest II and installed it on my PC, I'm pretty sure it's capable of running it (3ghz, 512 ram, gforce fx5200, not nearly "good" but it's sufficient I think), but when I click on the EverquestII shortcut, it first prepares files, then goes to scanning for updates and it gets stuck on "Connecting"... then it says "The Station LaunchPad is unable to connect to the network at this time. Please try again in a few minutes."
I use dial up connection (I know it sucks...) and it works fine for other MMORPG's (FFXI, RO). I tried the things they listed in the Knowledge Database but none fixed my problem. I also tried
http://patch.everquest2.com:7040/
appears to work for me, assume that's the EQ2 patch server... so it must be the Launchpad server...
However, the launchpad server, http://patch.station.sony.com:7000, failed to work, so I suspect it's the launchpad that's the problem here.
Can someone give me some suggestions on what to do?
(btw, I disabled firewall, even anti-virus, re-installed EQ2, and my windows - XP home, is a fresh installation with all the latest updates and drivers)
