I am not a hater. I am posting this because, for the most part, the people who have experienced what I have experienced have moved on and this needs to be said by someone.
A LARGE potion of those of you who purchased this game will be experiencing a gaming support issue, which as of yet, goes mostly ignored by the devs.
A few customers have been able to fix this issue somewhat with an update to a driver, or a windows update ..etc etc. But MANY people were completely unable to resolve this issue and now, with the last beta patch being implemented, it is still ignored by the devs.
Come release, there will be THOUSANDS of people who cannot play this game due to this crash, or 1 of its variations which are ALL due to poor coding.
I expect whining. I expect threatened lawsuits. I expect demanded refunds. I expect a lot of angry people.
For those not in beta: you can expect to hear the term "nowgame.exe" again. Because it is what this game will be remembered for if it is released in its current form.

A large potion?
Lawsuits for a 50$ game at the most? Sure demanded refunds, but lawsuits?
"Threatened" lawsuits, mind you.
But yeah. /refund and move on .
The OP said threatened lawsuits, threatened being the keyword there.
I will not be surprised by any of the above OP. This game if not fixed quickly will be known for a lot of issues and most of them not good.

You do know that you can get a refund through your credit card right?
Turn your Audio settings (in Control Panel) down to 16bit, 44100hz. Problem solved.
I'm not a fan of the game by any means, but it only took me ten minutes to work out what the solution was to this problem. It has nothing to do with video drivers or any other obscure settings, and is completely caused by the audio settings within your control panel.
I can reproduce the bug by turning my audio settings back up, every time without fail. Conversely, turning them back down to 16bit, 44100hz corrects the issue every single time.
It is not a nice bug, but it also is not one that is difficult to remedy.
Absolutely untrue.
You experienced ONE nowgame.exe error. there are many many others. My sound settings have always been set below that threshold. The bulk of my NOWGAME.EXE errors were video related. It appears the game has a problem managing memory. My solution was to turn off all special effects like blur, shadows, flare and to use low textures. It stopped 90% of the nowgames errors (of course at the cost of having crappy looking visuals).
Bottom Line is that ther are many causes of the Nowgame.exe error. And for the OP, yes... what first comes to mind when I think of Shadowbane is SB.EXE... I'm sure that a year from now when I look back at Mortal the first thing to come to mind will be Nowgame.exe
All time classic MY NEW FAVORITE POST! (Keep laying those bricks)

I wasn't aware that there were multiple issues with the Nowgame.exe, thank you for that tidbit of info.
No, it is not untrue by any means, it simply doesn't apply to whatever issue you personally have had with Nowgame.exe. The solution I added above is for Nowgame.exe crashing immediately upon startup on W7 x64 based systems, and it rectifies the problem every single time (I have reproduced it on two different systems, successfully).
I have had zero issues myself with video, all settings as high as possible, and have never had a Nowgame error with the settings turned up. I also haven't noticed any issues that would lead me to believe the game has memory management issues, because I personally haven't experienced those problems.
I also haven't bothered to spend a whole lot of time testing the game either though, so it is entirely plausible that I just haven't seen those issues because of the small amount of time typical for my playsessions.

Is anyone getting this error with win7 64 bit and a upper end Soundblaster card, because I have never had the error once, not once......After reading posts about the sound card, I switched mine to max, a soundblaster fatility and still didnt get the error.
longest time in game was 5 hours, now the lag and crappy animations were causing me to rant at the monitor a bit but thats another can worms.
if people installed teh game right like i didnt the 1 time. gave me the nowgame exe issue to i fixed i tmy self.. also sometimes theres a memory usage issue but i dont get that unless i have settings 2 high
"patching right", what with their wonderful patcher! The one that people (fanbois) excuse them for because they didn't make it (that's an excuse!?) But I'm sure the "miracle patch" will make everything rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns!
1 of the things about MMO players that I always find amazing is how they assume because a fix worked for them , like turning your sound setting downs, it will work for everyone else. Its a very self centered point of view.
So I decided to follow up this post.
I promise ALL of you, I am no computer illiterate scrub who didnt do my homework in an effort to fix the bug. As I said, I have tried every fix listed in all the game related forums I could find, including turning my sound settings down and downloading all the recommended fixes and none of them work.
Now I realize someone might assume that I am in fact the self centered 1 to think that because I couldnt fix it , it is effecting a lot of other people too. But, I have evidence to support my claim. I play most games with the same 3 friends, and my younger brother (age 23.) Of the 4 of us, only 1 had a clean 1st download. Only 1 of us did NOT initally get the "nowgame.exe" bug and only 1 of the 3 of us who did get the bug, was able to fix it using the recommended changes found in the forums.
There are also tons of people in the support forums who's posts went unanswered.
The fact is, a LOT of people just gave up. Myself included, i just lasted longer than most.
The other facts are that NOT ONCE in all the posts about this bug has a dev responded with anything helpfull. If they did respond they just referenced another thread with mostly player found fixes to various other bugs. They have YET to address the problem or even acknowledge its existence.
Now, on the to the "threatened lawsuit" aspect since so many of you seem to be stuck on that. Ill start by saying I did NOT preorder this game. So I have nothing at stake here. I did want to play it and had I liked the OB I likely would have ordered it. That's not an issue now. However, if they do put a product out there that's junk its buyer beware. If they put a product out there that doesn't work for a ton of people, which is what I'm saying is going to happen, the "buyer beware" and "no refund" policy is not enforcible. People absolutely CAN return products that are inoperable. Sure, most people will eat the cost, but many gamers(not the most stable bunch of people) take it personally and have, for much lesser reasons, threatened lawsuits in forums very vocally if told they cannot. I myself will not, cause I will not buy this game unless I know for a fact these issues were fixed. So it doesnt apply to me.
I posted this so you guys out there are warned. This game could be good or bad, I have no idea. But I do know it is broken for many people who just moved on and assumed all the stuff they read a few months back about the development of this game are true.
reinstall the game ...
use utoorent to download the game then uses the newest patcher to install them. i bet you manual installed the patches instead pf let the patcher install them right?
this has helped other people too at least the ones that would even take the time and try it
"patching right", what with their wonderful patcher! The one that people (fanbois) excuse them for because they didn't make it (that's an excuse!?) But I'm sure the "miracle patch" will make everything rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns!
why are you calling it a miracle patch /facepalm
He was sarcastically mocking all of the other fanbois who use the phrase. And SV's inability to provide an actual product so far. Hence, the quotation marks.
All I know about this patch, is that it will have to be a miracle. If this game isn't smooth playing and with content inside of it, that gives its players something to do, other than hitting trees and deer(if you can get to them) upon release; then this game isn't even going to last the (generous in my opinion) 6 months someone else claimed it would last.
this isnt the last patch before release and i havent seen fanboys call it a m patch.
but i do believe all the promised content will be in except tindrem. so before they release it. they go do bugs fixes Also the dysync issue they have a fix for it but there not sure whe it will be ready cause its deep in Epics network code. there workign with epic tog et it fixed
Dude PLEASE read.
I said I tried EVERYTHING posted on this or any forum. Including a torrent DL.
I could care less now, I have reported the bug after every patch with no response from a dev and TONS of other people have too. Do you think the number of people after release who cant play will go up or down? As I said, the support forums are riddled with people like me who have tried multiple fixes to no avail. None have been even acknowledged by simple dev team response.
Nowgame.exe...mark it down.
This guy only discovered MO in yesterday's Gamasuta Arcticle... but he's an expert in all the bug fixes. He also found this guide in the forums but by his other post somehow missedt he dozens of threads on the miracle patch. Nahhh... doesn't seem fishy at all!
only has 3 posts joined 2/24/10...seems legit to me

Yea, I noticed that too. It's getting to the point where the MO fanboys are really, really desperate. Kind of sad.
