i currently have the order screen up in another window, just waiting for me to enter my cc info.

why i want to?

- company of gamers who may actually have a clue

- despite negative game feedback, many ppl still say nice things about the company

- game looks and sounds like its worth logging in [this is unfortunately the lowest wieghted reason due to anybody being able to put up a decent website and still have a crap game]

why im not committed to purchase?

- insane amount of negative feedback

- [unconfirmed (by me anyway) rumor] that company has run out of resources

- pay access to beta

- so called miracle patch reminds me of huge giant epic pony fails of the past

ive hated gaming so much lately for a multitude of reasons and really cant take any more fail in the online portion of my life.

i figure i got one more shot in me before i go back to rts and single player fps and never look for another mmo ever. im willing to endure some growing pains from a small company such as this as long as they can stay away from the epic version of fail and im even willing to shell out money up front despite my previous loud statements that ill never pay for preorder/beta again.

ive read all the negative, can any1 provide positive reasons to spend gaming dollars here?

Sign up and create your account, then when the store screen pops up, just close it and download the game. You don't need to enter your card details to participate in the beta, it's free for anyone and everyone to try.

With regards to the state of the game... well, despite the promise of a miracle patch arriving tonight, as far as I'm concerned there's far too much wrong and missing to be solved in one patch just like that. But you might like it, some people have enjoyed the experience so far. As of this moment, the game is not worth even a fiver, it feels more like an experimental UT3 mod in the very early stages of development than a game. Personally, I would keep an eye on this game and maybe purchase it in the future if and when they fix it up but it's your money and your choice.

Coming from someone who is in the same boat as you, here is what i've seen so far.

I haven't really been involved much in the hype/media/reviews/anything of the game because i did not want anyone else's expectations or opinion when i opened up the game. I know what the game is supposed to be like, and the goals that starvault wants to accomplish. I installed the beta most of the day yesterday, and played it last night. Now, i understand this is a beta, and beta's aren't as polished as the original product, but as this game is supposed to release in mid march(what i've read anyway) I cant believe that it's in this sort of shape. A game that is weeks away from opening(assuming that the date is correct) should have gone gold right now. There is no direction whatsoever(from what i noticed). It explains nothing as you start up the game and create your character, offers no back stories or history on the races, and i felt the character creator was kinda lame. I also didn't like the lack of description you usually get on what to do and your options when creating a character in most games.

After I created my character, i chose a place to spawn. (I did this at random because it offered me no explanation or benefits of spawning in a particular location) I spawned outside of a city, and began to walk around. The city was large and full of npc's that stood around and offered to sell me stuff(but i had no money). I decided to leave town and walked outside of town in the wilderness for about 30 minutes(I fell into a river and swimming is horribly annoying). I read the help guide(which didn't offer any help, just told you what buttons to push) and i tried to look at my skills etc. My skill book was empty, and i'm not sure if it is meant to be like this, or a bug, so i had no options to do any gathering or anything of the sort. I didn't know how to increase my skills either, because quite frankly, there was nothing in the world. There were no mobs, though plenty of tree's to be found if i could gather wood from them. I thought the world was pretty mediocre as well, the ground was only the color green, there wasn't much grass or shrubbery. The tree's were also pretty lackluster. The only thing about the landscape that i liked were the mountains. I thought they looked great(until you get up close and they look horrible).

I gave up, thinking maybe i chose a bad place to spawn, made another character, and spawned in a new place that I could tell was more populated from the lag I was getting right off the bat. Still, unsure what the point of the game was, I ran around for a while, killed a deer that was stuck in a tree. Then killed another person who looked to be afk. I still had no skills, and unsure of any direction i could take, i logged out and hoped that the finished product is much, much, better.

I really like starvault. I like the interaction the dev's actually have with the community, but i'm not getting my hopes up for the game. They have a very good and very ambitious idea for the game they want to make, but i'm not sure if they can pull it off in the next month or so. There is no tutorial or guide or anything whatsoever to help anyone who is just starting up the game. (i'm not a dumb person but I would like options and idea's and features of the game explained to me as i'm learning it). And there was really nothing in the world. The city I was in felt empty, the npc's just stood there and showed me their inventory, and there was no wildlife or other stuff in the world i could interact with.

Overall, i was pretty disappointed in the beta. I'll check back after the patch and after the game is released to see what if it's improved any. As I said, the developers seem pretty cool, but i dont think they have the resources, or funding to pull it off. They need a blockbuster budget  and better developing to be able to finish this game to a reasonable product.

Here is something that might help a little...

    http://covenantofthephoenix.com/forums/index.php?topic=17232.0

It's up to you if the game suits your play-style...

The game doesn't give anything for free, and even starting out is confusing for individuals who don't make a habit of trying anything and everything... but you'll get it over time if you experiment, put in some time, and the style suits who you are.

Try out the beta, see if you like it and make your decision from there.
