Possible to get into non carebear corp playing ~5hrs a week?

I used to play eve, but it seemed like I couldn't get into the non-carebear stuff without dedicating at least 20 hours a week (at minimum). Carebearing got boring after a few months. I want to join back up again, but only if there is some way to join a fun corp that regularly does non-empire stuff and won't boot me because I don't have time to play eve full time. Did I not try hard enough the first time? Is it possible to play this way? (in reality, I may play more than 5 hours a week. I just don't want to commit to it.)

I don't know man... I remember doing low sec roams that took damn near three hours in one sitting.
When it comes to Eve you get out what you put in and five hours investment a week will get you damn near nothing in return.

I should mention that those 5 hours would probably involve at least one session of ~3 hours. I just wouldn't be on for a long time every day.
Maybe red vs blue would be your best bet, otherwise 5 hrs a week is light for any MMORPG.

That actually looks pretty interesting.
Yeah, I would suggest this too. You could also find a 'newbswarm' corp that rolls around in T1 frigs and just swarms a target corp repeatedly. There is also Faction Warfare, though that can get old pretty fast if you are not in a decent corp with good FCs.
Anyone can play eve , no matter how many hours a week you dedicate to it, but around 5 hours a week i wont suggest pvp right away, you might wanna gather some money first, unless you run a industrial character next to your pvp one like i do.

I wouldn't be starting from scratch. I'm running level III missions in a battle cruiser, almost to level IV if I remember correctly. I have learning skills to IV,III. I have a pretty solid base.
I hate to break it to you, but that might as well be starting from scratch. lol
What about your Rank 3 learning skills? Have you started those yet or were they included in 'learning skills to 3 & 4'? If you got those to 3 & 4 too, then you have a pretty good base. Hell, I'm just now finishing them up and I've been playing off and on since early '05.

I don't remember the exact terminology, but the tier 1 learning skills are all at lvl 4. the tier 2 skills are all at level 3.
One of the reasons for it being so difficult to join a pvp corp with only 5 hrs/wk is the fact that the pvp corp needs to prevent spies from entering. A person that logs on for only a handful of hours a week would exhibit traits of a disposable character spy.

Listen to this guy. Funny how he even mentioned 3 hours... The exact same time I spent once roaming, and not damn thing happened, waste of time and life. I've finally come to accept the fact that the fun you receive from EVE is directly proportional to the time you spend. And don't think about getting your own null sec, unless you want to be in some pet alliance, one of the downfalls to me personally. Just a bunch of nerds spending WAY to much time in front of a spreadsheet IMO. (Ya I was one of those for just under a year)

MMOs are all about time investment. Even in casually focused mmos.
Put a 5 hour a week player up against a person that sits in front of the screen ten hours a day and see how comparable they are.
Wanna achieve something in a mmo? make an investment. If your not willing to do that you could always do what I do. Play single player console games since i just can't find the time to enjoy my mmos atm.

I don't really need to achieve much. I just want to have some fun experiences. In all likely hoood, I probably will play more than 5 hours a week. I just don't want to have to commit to it.
If you could get into an understanding pvp corp/alliance that will allow you to play more on the weekends then maybe you could get some fun times in.
I had my corp set me as casual in my final month of the game. I decided to leave because i felt like shit since i couldn't help them actively defend space. I only made the newbish weekend roams.

For casual PVP:
1) Factional Warfare
- T1 ships, mostly frigs, very accessible
2) Red vs Blue
- constant empire war, I do not know how this work, you can check a killboard probably
Alternatives:
A) Joining CVA corp
- CVA is 0.0 alliance operating under NotRedDon'tShootIt policy
- more options for small scale PVP
Because of your limited time, I would go for FW. You need to consider that you will lose ships and you will need to find time in your schedule for some ISK earning. You can say that FW won't cost you much.

RvB is going to be your best option for 'casual pvp'
Pronoob Tip:
train Infomorph Psychology to L1-3 (will take less than 1hr)
Make some spare (empty) clones, if your personal standings aren't high enough talk ingame to "Estel Arador" for access to his Jump Clone service
Keep your +3 implant set safe, while you pvp naked.

I'm in a nice corp that do roams...
2 weeks ago I played 27h, last week I have played 3h. Going back longer than that I have had a break for a few month...
Alot of people are more active then me and gets out more of the game, and some are less active and still gets out more of the game. In the end though I think we all enjoy it.
My commitment is strictly based on if I want to play at a given time or not. And if I can.

Thanks for the message. That does look like what I'm looking for. I haven't completely decided to go back to eve, but If I do, I'll probably try to join up with that corp. It looks exactly like what I'm looking for.
I think that's my problem with MMO's, they always sounded cool, awesome to get into, you hear about it and want to be apart of that, but I just don't think that's me. Now my first six months I definitly put in heavy time and got a lot out, but at the same time I burnt myself out. Later on I normalized out but started hitting that break point where I knew I had to put more time in, but just didn't want to (to do the things I wanted to do). Hence ending the longest time a MMO ever kept me interested, that being EVE. Second place goes to Warhammer Online, and everything beyond that was nothing short of a month or less, not even worth mentioning. Oh well, I might give FF XIV a go once a trial comes up, but now I'm stickin with RTS's and FPS's (AvP)
