Worth it?

Earz01Earz01 Member Posts: 3

Im really debating to get this game or not.. Is it worth it .. does it have elements that will keep me hooked for a long time? and also how is it different from mmorpgs that just use the same hack and slash system?

thanks to anyone who answers these questions

Well man its hard to say if you will like it because certain things hook certain people. But for myself I can see myself playing for the next couple of years as long as they dont mess it up to bad with expansions down the road. But im not a nit picker about games so I dont run around looking for things that are messed up to complain about them on these boards and others. I mean any game you play is going to have problems. So I guess what it comes down to is do you have 40 bux to blow. Because you get the first month free and you get the first month of eq2players.com features for free to.

The Game is pretty good.. but but but... too many buts you should consider.

1st : Get rdy to have a good pc. 3 yo pcs or older will only allow you to play it at minimal settings if you dont want lag.

2nd : Get rdy for daily 4hrs downtime and pathes etc. Its clear the game shouldnt have been launched, its way far from perfection. I would say eq2 is atm in Beta stage.

3rd : Unless you pick a priest.. and you want to go solo playing.. get rdy for waiting sitting down for health to come up ... get rdy to die often too.

4th : Get rdy for serious downtime while waiting for 'zones' to load. You enter your room, downtime, you leave, downtime. Everytime you enter a new area ( and even the bloody cities are 'zones' ), 2 - 5 minutes of downtime.. after a while you either get used or start slamming your head into the closest wall.

5th : get rdy to be kicked off the game anytime because, SOE doesnt even bother to announce to the players they will be reseting the game. They think.. its YOU the fooking poor soul who bought THEIR game that needs to often check their forums to see when will THEY want YOU to go to sleep or whatever. They just unplug you and basically kick you off. This may not be an issue to most of you.. but if youre crafting that nice sword you have been gathering materials all day... bye bye materials and sword.. or if you are in the final stages of the nice quest you have been doing to change profession at lvl 10 or whatever... etc.. think you got the idea. But then.. we all already knew and have been warnned about the unpolite way of SOR dealing with the players...

6th : You cannt even play the game as shown in the nice promotion videos launched by Sony. Simply cos 512 Mb graphics cards are rare and expensive.. and im yet to find a computer able to run the game with good fps with all maxed..

So basically.. if you dont have $ problems.. buy the game and try it. You may luv it or hate depending on what you will find inside that hooks you or not.
If you are short of cash.. wait for Guild Wars or another game.

i would have to agree with jayreal up there. different people have different interests, but i dont go into a game looking for problems to complain about. i usually just ignore them or find a way around the problem. so if you got like 49.99 to use, and you go into the game not expecting too much, then im sure you will love it. lots of people give bad reviews, but if you look at it this way they are here complaining while the majority of the people who like the game are probably playing it and not posting here...so, just give it a try, if you end up not enjoying it you wont really lose much.

    EduardoASG,

Sorry but if you really feel this way about this game I think you should stay away from it.

Personally I think this game is the best ever so far. Of course it need improvments but then again which games doesn't at a launch?? I remember DAoC when I complaine like a biatch about all the bugs, laggy etc etc etc. But I have learned one thing, you have to look at what the game can offer you, it's potential, if this is the type of game you want to play? The bugs, lag, restart etc. WILL be fixed/improved shortly I promise you. Give it some time and enjoy the game. image

Im not saying i dont like the game. I bought it and love it :) Just pointing out that there are some seriuos flaws in it. If SOE makes it work 100%.. will probably be the best RPG and MMORPG in the world for some years to come.

1.agreed .But depends what you done with that system. My oldest system is 3 years old.Have althon xp 1600,768 RAM PC2100 and a geforce 4600.Now all but the geforce 4600 is original(proving more my point EQ2 requires little processor power) and i play it smoothly on high  perfornmance just a step below the balanced .

2.Yes annoying but doubt this will be a constant thing. In beta the server would run days without a server reboot just reboot certain zones at different times. It will pass hopefully

3.Started yesterday(bah uk release dates) made 12 never died once as a warrior just know what you are soloing. On a side note priest later on solo horribly next to fighters as worst soloers.I played a wizard to 32 in beta and soloed better then any priest i saw only one to come close to equal to me was the defiler(shaman branch).Early on the priest solos so well but soon slows down a lot.Thats why i laugh at the 1000s of druids out there refusing to group because their lovely level 15 druid is soloing fine.

4.Hmm i zone in under 20secs max.Depends on your system and connection i guess

5.They announce downtimes with an hour warning on broadcast like most mmorpg i played server crashed thats another matter

6.Totally agreed but SoE never hide the fact that they have build the game for the future. In beta the extreme setting was only added later to show people what more the engine can do it was never meant to be a setting to combat and raid with and they even said it.There is even higher settings which have not been added .

::::34:: I have a druid, and I prefer to group ::::02::. The only thing is, I am so scared that druids are going to be the class that noone wants ina group. In EQ1 druids had such a hard time getting a group. Does anyone here know how well the druids heal compared to the cleric at higher levels?

Well, I guess I have a lot of work to do.  I turned the graphics WAY down and I still lag to the point I died underwater before I even knew I was in water.  Oh, well.  I have Pentium 1.8 ghz with a new 256meg graphics card.  I just cannot figure why it takes 1 min 30 seconds to zone and lags like crazy when in a non instanced area.  Oh, yea.  I have no problem with other games running over my cable modem.  I love the game, I just cry when I have a quest that takes me more than one zone away from where I got the quest.

One flaw that is the most serious is the memory leakage. If you expirience lag after a while of playing. Try to quit to desktop and start the game again and you should see a remarkable diffrence.

Couldn't of said it better myself :)

Well that's SOE's stupidity that is starting to dig their own grave.  I mean come on, if they can't handle an overpopulated server NOW (like Mistmoore), how the hell are they gonna support the game in a couple of months from now if the game keeps increasing in population?  That's my big complaint!  Servers should not crash like that.  I mean come on, adding more servers will not help!  They have to concentrate on upgrading their equipment for the servers they already have and go from there.  I got to Level 9 as a Priest, I'm almost level 10 cause I just finished the quest yesterday night.  I'M NOT going to switch to a newer server just cause SOE is too poor to upgrade their servers.  They are rich, they can afford it!  They are just trying to find the $$$cheapest$$$ method to avoid having to get new hardware.
3rd : Unless you pick a priest.. and you want to go solo playing.. get rdy for waiting sitting down for health to come up ... get rdy to die often too.
So true!  Unless you enjoy sitting and waiting for your health and endurance to regenerate 1-2 minutes after killing 1-2 monsters. :P
As mentioned above, SOE wants to find the cheapest way to save money by trying to encourage people to move to another less populated server.  If I was level 2-3, I wouldn't of minded.  But I'm at Level 9!  I worked so hard to get there, finished lots of quests I never want to redo again.  I'm not starting all over again!
But then.. we all already knew and have been warnned about the unpolite way of SOR dealing with the players...
That's SOE for you!  for someone that's been playing Star Wars Galaxies for 1 year, I've gotten used to it.  Thing is... I didn't quit SWG until SOE really really p1ssed me off.  Why?  Cause there was no other good MMORPG back then I would of considered playing.  But with EQ2?  SOE is sooooo dumb!!!!  WoW is coming out in 2 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!  If they keep acting like this, so many people, including myself, will cancel our accounts and switch to WoW.  Hey they are playing with fire... and they will get burned if they keep this up!
6th : You cannt even play the game as shown in the nice promotion videos launched by Sony. Simply cos 512 Mb graphics cards are rare and expensive.. and im yet to find a computer able to run the game with good fps with all maxed..
???????  you don't need a 512MB video card.  you just need lots of RAM, a decent CPU (I havea  AMD 2600+) and a good video card.  I got a 5900 Geforce, but I would of prefered a 6800 or an ATI x800.

Is there a way to fix this? Or is it something that would have to be addressed by SOE?

Druids heal well at least up to the 30s i played in beta.

100% agreed. Theres a huge mem leakage in eq2. You start with game running smooth .. then your Ram fills.. your FP gets too high and keep growing even when 'unloading' zones. Thats a software bug tho.. hope they will adress it cos its a pain.

Mem leakage is a common problem to some mmorpgs on the market.. Lineage2 had a huge mem leakage too but i think they fixed it. the problem is not only from SOE. The windows memory management sux too so after a while memory becomes fragmented like in a hard drive. Some games know how to deal with it ( basically by defragmenting the memory availble ), others dont wich is this case.

    Example:
You boot your pc then you ram will be something like..
    XXXXUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

    X-occupied space
    U-free space

Then you enter eq2.. now ram would be something like:

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

    You zone..
    XXXXXUUUUUXXXXXXXUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

but you need to get in XXXXXXX so... you cannt put it in UUUUU free space.. so it goes to the end..
    XXXXXUUUUUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUUUUUUUUUU

etc.. well after a while youll ahve loads of 'holes' in your memory.. so..
the software goes to FP ( virtual memory using harddisk) wich is slow.. and keep doing the same...

Eventuall no more Virtual Mem to use... so it start loading/unloading stuff into memory.. game lags.. player slamms head against wall... all hell breaks loose.. etc ;)

    Hope this helps,

Played the BETA up until the last wekk at which point I gave up.

You can tell it's made by Sony as it's like playing a console game rather then a MMORPG.

No major difference between characters your 10th level cleric will be like any other 10th level cleric of the same race.

Combat system is like 'simon says' just click the flashing icon, rinse and repeat..

Looks good, but has already been stated it's got nasty memory leeks, zoning becomes tedious as half the 'quests' send you back and forth across multiple zones.

You'll spend half your time on line running around with a 'LFG' flag above your head.

Like most over MMORPG's was released way to early but SOE were afraid of WoW and wanted out for the christmas market.  They could have shot themselves in the foot big time with releasing something so unfinished.
