Fantasy Sandboxish game. Do they exist?

Hard to explain, because when I say "sandbox" people are immediately going to jump and say Eve or Darkfall something similar. Not really what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something to satisfy my apparently unconventional play style, in that I care more to contribute to a group, than to simply hoard gear and wealth for myself. Additionally, I'm also interested in player/world interaction.

Basically, I'm looking for a game in which the players can take action upon the world, or contribute to the game/faction as a whole. Be it city building, quests/exploration that unlock new areas, or victories that provide meaningful long term benefits and goals for your faction. However, at least with the current offerings, I'm not looking for it to be FFA PvP. Darkfall's community and several glaring balance issues rule it out fairly quickly, and Mortal is just disappointingly unfinished and unpolished.

I've only stumbled across two games that have done anything like this before.

Saga of Ryzom, which I have tried before and tried returning to previously but simply cannot get into the feel of the game be it the interface or just the general empty world feel.

and

Algenon, which I have yet to try, and is more recent, but from what I have seen seems incredibly barebones in its mechanics and for a new release, seems a bit dated. However, it does fit most closely to what I have in mind, with its "World Evolution" system and it has a lush game world to rummage through. It's questionable if they will continue with said events though.

There was a Russian game called Well Online that was planned to do something similar where everyone contributed to large scale goals and new areas would be unlocked as time went by, but that game got shelved /=.

Addendum: I just realized A Tale In The Desert would fit somewhat, however, I'm not looking for a pure crafting MMO.

I'm being specific, but mostly because I'm trying to convey what it is exactly I'm looking for. As I said, if you needed a direct comparison, the spirit of what Algenon is doing is probably closest, so tl;dr something like Algenon, maybe mashed with Allods. I'm pretty sure this doesn't exist /=

Wurm Online, well not like Algenon might still be what you looking for?

EDIT: Wurm Online is not really fantasy, but really is a theme nothing more then just a skin difference?

Tried that. I like the ideas, but it's java based and it requires way too much of an investment in time given how catastrophically long everything takes. Couldn't get into it. That and I wouldn't trust it given the talk of drama and exploits with the developers deleting things for friends and moving things for themselves.

If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
