Aimed spells in MO now....

The entertaining thing about that thread, is that the OP wants a system like UO, and realizes that the system that SV is implementing is going to be aim based, taking away all the ideas of "combos" and reversals and thinking that made UO great. Of course, the sad thing is he's followed the game for a long time and so has his guild -- and now they are upset because MO is being remade into basically Darkfall Part 2.

Anyway, I'm on the same page as him -- I prefer the 'skill based' method of UO rather than the twitch based method that MO is implementing, and that DF also has. Now MO goes into direct competition with DF, while I thought it would be something slightly different... DF is I think, going to get more subs due to MO coming out like this.

Also, I should add... it's kind of funny to see this happening only just before one of the last patches. They are changing the game drastically just before releasing. And while there are people on either side of the benefits of aimed magic, I don't know how you can be a proponent for massive overhauls just before launch time. It's laughable and sad.

There has been talk of changing the magic system since I started in block c and maybe even before that.

This is from a post from Henrik:

"Before we get out of hand in the discussion of magic in MO. We have not yet ditched the way how you use your player skills in the first magic school. Or the idea on what and how we want players to use their player skills with this school. Many gets confused with the word "auto aim" or not and think auto aim = no player skills and that’s it. If we manage to get our vision into this school I think this school will require the most player skills as in varyingresults of spell casting. As stated before the player skills with this school is not how well you aim and that’s it. It's all about reading the opponent, react and cast the right spell for the right moment, milliseconds will make or break in the end for a well trained mage in a fight. This is where we want player skills to come into play with "this school" and it should take a very long time till its fully mastered. The hard part here is to make it somewhat balanced with the rest areas of fighting but rewarding for those who is very successful with this school. And for those who enjoy to rely player skills in fully manually aim and not minding counter spells reading opponents spells etc will be satisfied with our other magic school that relies more on "manual aim". Our first magic school is not aim based in the way people may think as in you shoot it right out in the air hoping to hit something this is not the case with this magic school, it will be with another magic school.

Other than new spells we tweaked our current magic school:

    - Magic now requires you to look much more precisely at your target in order to cast. (not totally aim bases as in a fps shooter but this means you can't shoot magic from you "behind" or side, you need line of sight)

    - You can no longer cast/precast spells with weapons equipped.

As said before we will have more than 10 magic schools eventually, and most of them are totaly different from another school. Let's see how this turns out first shall we?"

what we will be experiencing over the next 2 years are people migrating back and fourth amongst darkfall and MO.  That is if MO makes it that long.

When People get tired of MO they will likely sub for darkfall,  if people ever get tired of Darkfall they will likely check out MO.

Darkfall is pure win though, I hope Mortal gets more developed with content.  Once that happens I will for sure be subbing.

Asherons Call had the perfect magic system. You had high damage spells that need to actually connect with your target and you had lower damage spells that were the traditional auto-hit type.

It is a shame that noone is talking about creating an Asherons Call Darktide MMOG. It was the perfect MMOG PvP.
