Ill give ya some background on games ive played in the past.(im currently playing SWG)Ive played AO,UO,CoH,AC2,EvE,SB,SWG,L2,DAOC,.Im a big scifi fan so it will take some convincing.I played AO the longest currently as i write this.
Now heres the thing i really like scifi but eq2 looks graphically amazing.I like PvP but its not absolutley neccesary.Fantasy games are just not my thing but ill tell ya im sorely tempted here.EQ2 looks like a very good well made product.
AO was my 1st game and it had me hooked from day1 not ever having played the original eq i have no perspective on its sequel so its a whole new game for me.When i was playing AO i couldnt wait to log in man it was like a drug i would play between 2 and 4 hours a day at most. Now i have a wife and child that i will not neglect to play a game.I have a very limited amount of time to play if at all.I dont mind gradual slow progression but i need to feel like im being succesful.

So now some questions:

1.How easy/hard is it to solo? The reason i say this is im hesitant to group with players because i never know when i will be needed by my daughter or wife.
2.Is it possible to log in for say an hour or two and accomplish a quest?
3.I know its a level based system but what about skills? In SWG i can learn anything i want is this possible in eq2?

Well i cant think of anything else so any answers are appreciated.Come on guys convince me its worth the price!!!!

I see a lot of posts like this asking what game to buy, will I like the game, should I buy it, etc.

But the only way to really tell is to try it.  I know a lot of people dont want to spend money on something they are going to hate.  The simple fact is when you ask for advice all you are getting is opinions.  For everyone that likes a certain game there is someone else that hates it. (ie. EQII  WOW)

Sorry but that is the way it is.

    AMEN!!!

i wish people would stop asking for advice. You are so right. All your going to get a bunch of mindless opinions from a brainwashed zombie. Buy it and make your own choice.

    ...hmm , well i dont agree .

If you ask for something here , already knowing that what you'll get are opinions . Than its cool .

Its useless coming and asking , for SOLUTIONS , when its only a matter of opinions...

    1.  How easy is it to solo?  Easy to do, slow to level.  Almost not worth it.

    2.  Is it possible to accomplish a quest in an hour or two?  At the lower levels, I know this is true.  Not sure at the higher levels.

    3.  Is it level based and skill based?  Yes, both, but more like old EQLive than SWG.  It's under control pretty much.

    Now, for some other assessments:

Graphics are excellent, even below average settings give you as good as anything in DAOC, for example.

Weapons and armor are very nice.

Character customization is great, but you won't see it 100% until a couple of years down the road when you have a better computer.

Combat is like FFXI, you're sort of lock into a fight and auto-follow what you're attacking.  Makes it hard to run off sometimes unless you click off your "attack" button.

    Interface is excellent.

Monster AI is as good as EQLive, but it's more like DAOC in that monsters don't seem to run away when they're dying.  ("I wanted you to scare them, not kill them." "People scare better when they're dying." - Henry Fonda from Once Upon a Time in the West)

Death penalty smarts, but at least you keep your gear.

    Crafting looks cool.

Combat is too fast (faster than in DAOC), you can't really walk away and do something, then walk back to a fight.  Even socializing in group is hurt because you really have no time to talk in between fights.  Maybe a little, but not like before.

Two city system is limiting.  You're either Qeynos or Freeport.

Progressive class selection system gives a feeling of regret after making a choice.  They thought it would help folks decide what they wanted to be.  Problem is, if you choose the wrong class, you've just wasted 20 levels, where in EQLive, you maybe could figure this out after only 2 or 3 levels.

Overall, this is a solid game and worth your money, but it did not live up to the expectations that I had.  I particularly find the constant theme music annoying and a detraction from immersion.  Now, I like in-game music, like ominous sounds when you first step into a dungeon, but this endless one-theme-all-the-time-playing concept is a drag.  Plus, it doesn't help that there is zero enforcement of any naming policy, so expect a high ratio of Asshats-to-Roleplayers.

Summary:  Easier-to-play, got rid of some problems PL'ing, dual-boxing, etc, but immersion has suffered greatly.

to answer to ur question. This game will require a big chunk of your time if you want the best stuff.

if you have time to spare then try it.

If you dont have that much time to devote to a game. Prolly WOW will be good since it caters to people who can log on for only an hour or two a day. But that's only considering time issues.

As the rest have responded just try the game I guess.
