I think alot are missing the point especially for roleplayers, a house is more than somewhere to store stuff, its an evolution of your journey through the game if done right, souvinir's from the last battle a place to meditate and invite a few friends over to see your latest trophy. its a place of calm in a world of destruction and death, somewhere to try on new clothing or devise new tactics.

Guild housing is nice but limiting, FFIV is suposed to be very solo play friendly and having only guild housing would be detrimental to that.

I haven't heard any word on it, and SE is still keeping secret at what additional features the game will have at release.

Not saying there won't be housing, but i'm not going to get my hopes up on it just in case.

Either way it's not really a concern of mine, housing is just fluff to an rpg as far as im concerned

Rumor has it you can be open about beta experience now.  Here's what I know from beta:

    1. There's currently no housing

    2. There's a spot in LL that allows you to teleport to the 'Market Wards.'  It's setup in such a way that'd it'd be simple to add other items to the teleport menu, such as 'Mog House.'

There's no announcement confirming that's how it'll work, but that's my guess.  And considering you basically 'teleport' to your residence from specific locations within the cities in FFXI I think it's a fairly safe guess.

Interactive furniture that provded stat bonuses as well, would be a plus. Perhaps some easy mini-games inside it, that could allow players to actually relax inside their home, while also providing entertainment for them as well.

They could have a computer in there that you can play FF11 on.  ;)

I can see your point clearly and i agree with you to some extent on part about the banking and storage,

But, i think rather then have a house per player, have guild houses?

that way people can band together and fund some great social areas, each member can have little say in its decoration if wanted but majority of it is a shared space to display not only our exploits but the joint exploits of the guild?

something like this would be nice,  if for esthetic and bragging rights only.

Such a socialist perspective for ingame econmics >_>

Being of a capitalistic mentality I want my hard earned acheivements displayed in my own right. Not by some freeloader gamer who claims hes awsome just because his guild does a good job.

What are you talking about??? socialist??? capitalistic mentality??

jeepers. theres no need to be cruel, it was a simple suggestion, i just think its nice to share what you accomplish with your friends. it can have your name under what you did, so that others cant take credit for it.

sorry if it made you feel bad little fella.

I dont think any of you are actually wrong here. I think the main thing the remember is that player housing is not a necessity or a requirement but simply a perk that usually takes the place of or assist the bank with player storage needs. Its just a perk that can help some players with imersion. A guild bank is usually a must but in most games the guild bank is on restrictive access where officers have the key say in who gets what. Even with a guild hall it would be rare to see every player in the guild have say in its design. Never the less its not a hinderance as it give a legion someplace to meet up away from  the general pop. This is one issue that really isnt one because if the player housing is instanced likely the only person capable of seeing what you have achieved is you. As long as they have some sort of additional storage system it will be ok. While I do expect there to be player housing I veiw it solely as a perk.

1up article with comment on housing -

"Mr. Tanaka mentioned that players would be able to create and join groups called "Companies." Similar to player guilds in other games, Companies can themselves "level up," presumably offering additional benefits to the members therein. When asked if Companies would have shared housing or other group-owned assets, they smiled and said that players would have real-estate to call their own, but "weren't ready to announce anything more at this time" - sounds like a "yes" to me!"

I am always in agreement with adding housing, it should be a staple of any online RPG. I get folks who think it's not necessary - because it adds to resource requirements, dev time, coding, art, etc... However, you cannot reasonably argue that it adds nothing of value to the game. That is just subjective maybe it adds nothing to you and thats ok. Everybody plays these games for potentially different reasons.

Housing adds a lot of value to me and my $15 is just as important as yours.

People can't go into MMORPG game design conversations one-sided. These games are made for unlimited personality types and interests.

    2 letters. UO

Ultima Online had the best housing. you could go to peoples houses, or castles, cottages whatever they could afford and place in that certain area, use their rare items like black dye to dye your clothes black etc. It had the ability for you to have a key and lock the house, or keep it open (even though no matter what you got to lock down any item you placed down including gold and armor of which people would decorate designs.

I find player housing a nice feature that is not needed, so if they have it I will certainly utilize it as well as enjoy it, if not I will not fret; tis not a deal breaker for me.

To me, a mmorpg is not complete without player housing. The housing is what kept me playing EQ2 long after I was bored with the other aspects of the game. In fact, that is the part I miss the most.

It was truly amazing the things you could do in the EQ2 housing. People would come up with creative ways to postion furniture and accessories that you would never guess what it was made of. For example, a friend of mine made me an aquarium that spanned the whole wall in my downstairs house. He made it out of all kinds of items that I still can't figure out how he did it. We had hundreds of players coming to our house to try to figure out how he did it. Was truly amazing.  At Christmas time  he figured out how to combine 10 or so different Christmas trees and stack /interlap them to where it looked like one huge, fluffy tree that went from the floor to the top of the celing of my two story house. Everyone visited us for Christmas LOL.

I am really wishing wishing wishing hard they include nice customizable housing in ffxiv. It is sooo nice to have another avenue to pursue when the grinding/leveling starts feeling repeititve and boring. After a nice break doing other things like working on your house then you're all refreshed and ready to grind again.

Housing also appeals to the female players, and make no mistake there are alot of us out there.

Anyway, I ordered the Collector's Edition today, and I plan on leveling a carpenter. Here's hoping to a great living area for us creative people :).
