Time(sink)?

So I don't have much time to play games nowadays, and I've never tried LOTRO. Is it a game I can play casual and still have fun? or do I have to pour half my life into it to become useful or be able to play with other people at all.

Also whats the approx. amount of time to reach cap?

Yes this is a game you can play casually.

As far as level cap, my initial thought is "why?"

I realize some people have to be at level cap because they think that is where the good stuff is. Not so with LOTRO. As a matter of fact, at level cap you only have a few raids, perhaps work on your legendary item or start an alt.

That is a very mercenary way of looking at it as you can also craft or role play if that is your thing. However since the game is very story based the stories are pretty even throughout.

Recently I made an alt and have been enjoying myself very much even though my character is only 20.

Not sure how long it will take to cap. That really depends on how much you play. Of course, if you rush to cap you will miss most of the game only to arrive and say "now what"?

Lotro is deff a game where I never felt rushed to get to the end. Theres a lot of little things to do here and there, such as customized outfits, housing, fishing and a good deal of socializing.  A lot of the population still hangs around Bree, so even not being high level you will find plenty of people to socialize and interact with.

Definitely a casual game. Enjoy the ride...there is no rush to get to the end. We are barely into Volume III. There's a hell of a lot of content that can be developed before the story comes to an end. After that, there is a great opportunity for Turbine to go back and fill in all the side stories that they missed.

Monday's patch will be great for you to because the Vol 1 epic book quests are being made at least more solo-able if not totally solo-able(which may be the case). This is a boon to the casual player who doesn't have time to look for Fellowships and players who are on lower pop servers who are having a hard time finding people playing characters their level. So you will have more access to some of the best content in LotRO,though some of the worst errand boy quests too IMO,say hello to Elrond for me about a billion times!

Yeah when i used to play(i'm thinkin bout resubbing) i didn't feel like i had to pour half my life into it, I'm still in highschool so i don't have but like 3 hours to play on week days and i leveled pretty good and had a blast visiting my favorite places from the books and movies. But weekends were different i'd play 12 hours+ on a friday night, and saturday if i didn't have plans i'd play all day. Sunday was the same as saturday, but LotRO could fit around any schedule.

I'm new myself, but I have to say from what I've seen its very casual.  It's one of the only games I have found that I can log in and just run around and explore and not feel like I need to be leveling.

what I like about LoTRO is their are many so many ways to play it. I can log in and do a skirmish, work on some crafting, do book quests, work on deeds, do group quests or solo quests, gather resources for AH, PvP on the moors , just explore or RP. It is probably has the most options as far as play style of any MMORPG out

    I miss DAoC
