Visiting a fan site with limited or no internet security on your computer? Then there is a good chance that your account will be hacked... (To prevent this use Firefox with add-ons like NoScript, KeyScrambler and Add Blocker Plus)
Are you creating and registering an account to a fan web site? Then there is a good chance your account will be hacked.. (To prevent this, if you MUST register an account to a fan website use a separate dummy email account that is not the same email account that you are using for your online games or credit cards.)
It really sucks that peoples accounts have been hacked but honestly people, use a little common sense, you need to be on the defensive when it comes to account security. Also this crap does not just happen in Aion but other games as well.

Just to add a quick no-brain addition, never use the same Username / Password on fan sites that you use to log into the game. Additionally, your login name should always be different from any of your characters' names.
It's probably easier to brute-force a fan site's login than it is to use a brute force against the game or game account's login. Once they have the credentials for one site then it's a simple thing to try them on the game's website. If they're the same then it's game over for ya.
You beat me to the punch. Joining a fan-site is okey-dokey. Just use some common sense. Never-Ever use your same username and password you use to log into a game for any other website out there. They should be unique and mutually exclusive.
