what the pvp will be like?

in Final Fantasy XIV

Hi,

 

anyone know what the PvP will be like? Call me ancient, but last time I played FF, it was on playstation 2 and turn based pve game, so you know what I mean hehe :)

     PvP will not be in the game at launch, there will probably be arena style 1v1 or group vs group at some point, perhaps chocobo racing and monster fighting too (akin to pokemon)

    The reason I suggest these is they are already in FFXI so it will probably take a few of the concepts from their previous game when they are thinking up mini games.

    FFXIV will have no normal PvP elements, but may add PvP as a sport.

    Much like FFXI, FFXIV will be focusing on PvE (hopefully as great as FFXI).  PvP will only be done in very optional ways which does not affect any part of the main gameplay.

    Edit:  To the poster above me:

    Actually that assumption is correct, FFXIV interviews revealed that PvP will not be the main focus.  It would be more like a sport.

    I can post the link if you want, but I really don't see why you can't google and find the same interview Q&A.

    Despite enjoying PvP and being an all around type of gamer, I'd much rather SE do no PvP like in FFXI originally.  Instead, focusing on an enriching core PvE story and gameplay mechanics without the hitches of "balancing" (see: nerfs) that coincide with class based PvP games.

    It's really speculation at this point as I personally have no idea how the mechanics work but if it's anything like FFXI's style I won't want to PvP anyway.

    In FFXI setting, beating the monster was harder than beating players anyways.

    Its a well known fact they have stated there will not be PVP in FFXIV at launch, hold on while I go look it up for you with google, I'm sorry that you are unable to do so.

    PS: If your saying its an assumption that they will have mini games in FFXIV you have not played any FF games... they are in every single FF Game...  Need I remind you of the Golden Saucer in FF7?  

    Considering the development team on 14 is composed of many of the same people who developed 11, we WILL see mini games similar to their other games.

    well you are sorry I for one is very happy about a game focus on PvE - and hopefully stick to it...dont see why every single MMO have to have PvP....leave that to games that can do it proper where stats have no impact at all

    I've not seen things on PVP in ToR.

    I wonder if they will have it and how they will manage in a KOTOR esk game.  I mean I'm expecting the play control to be sluggish and you to queue up your abilities until the next "attack" is executed.  Which would be pretty dull for PVP.

    Anyway I urge you to reconsider, FFXI had some of the best PVE of any online game, and I'm fairly certain 14 will live up to that legacy.  It would be worth your time to keep it in mind.  I too like PVP but there are a lot of free to play PVP games and I also have a few FPS games I play when I feel the PVP bug bite.

    If you want a really solid story driven MMO don't count this out just because of its lack of PVP at lauch, there still might be some mini games that involve pvp later on too.

    Most pvp will be conducted on the forums and in regional chat.
