Hey all,
I've decided to post my question here, since there is a shortness of guides for this class.
What's the role of the BG in tier 3 and 4? I'm rank 16 and so far I love it, specially in PvE, but when I go to the rvr lakes or scenarios, I dont feel like I'm adding something to my group.
So to the more experient players I ask advice. Which masteryshould I choose and what's out approach to the game?
Using hold the line a lot trying to protect others seems the only thing I can do!
Thanks in advance,
V

You might want to go to the Black Guard forms to get solid advice about the class:

However I think you are supposed to be going after healers.

Well, hopefully a active subscriber will post as I haven't played since this last summer.
However, Blackguards were, tbh, at the time pretty bad tanks, and most people used them like Heavy MDPS. If you are doing a lot of PvE and PvP I would suggest you spec out into the tanking role or the anti-magic role, depending on which you do more.
As the Blackguard, don't run around too much, stay close to your healers, but if PvP, you want to attack the Order healers or Bright Wizards. That is where the BG really shines, in Anti-Magic. Don't bother pounding on the Tanks or the Melee, that will get you no where. Keep up the presure on the healers and you will do the most good.
Of course, this info is a tad bit out dated. I would suggest finding a good, active guild and using them for information as well, as they will probably be more informed then us here
I think it probably has more to do with that fact that an actual blackguard player needs to help.
I am an active subscriber (as I think it's a great game) but I honestly don't see many black guard players.
So OP, use that link I gave. It brings you to the blackguard part of the forums and as you can see there is quite a bit of info and people do post there.

It is a possibility the the Black Guard Players weren't that good, but I do honestly believe they were underpowered, at least when I was leaving. There were some really great ones out there, don't get me wrong.
That would be a shame because I actually liked the class. Maybe it just takes the right person to really "get" the class.

Thanks for the tip, i actually forgot all abou tthe american forums since I'm playing on an English server
Indeed, what I find amazing about warhammer is, altough there are lots of classes you need to find one that you can master. Different playstyles, etc.
I will have a look and hopefully will make it work
Cheers,

That's exactly it, there are so many classes and so many ways to set them up that a player really can find something they love.
In the end, after trying several at the start of the game I decided on swordmaster. I love the class and love how it plays. I tend to do well enough so I always feel like I get a good experience.

in general you are a tank, in tier 3 4 your role will be to protect the healers and ranged dps. How? Guarding them, knocking down/knocking back enemy melee dps tryin to reach to your healers and ranged dps. As a blackguard you can snare enemys which will give time to healers and rdps to take distance heal/dmg meanwhile. So yes for moest of the hot blooded guys its so boring but i can tell you if you do it right, your healers will love you and you will get lots of fun.
I played BlackGuard (as an alt) till lvl 34, it rocks in pve as u can tank and do lots and lots of aoe dmg, in land of dead u can just go grind solo and be 40 in 2 days.
PvP is another story, in War all classes have mirrors (at least it supposed to be ) Blackguards mirror is Order's Ironbreaker which use the same system (grudge vs hate), this where blackguard system fails as BG have to use the generated Hate to dmg aswell for the defence, while ironbreaker can generate grudge(hate) by their party members by using oathfriend, as a blackguard you are alone to generate all that hate. So u have to be attacked to dps but if u dps you cant defend..
So here is the big picture if you like to play tanks you have to accept that in pvp you are limited (except ironbreakers which insanely do dps and tank meanwhile)
my opinion based on almost 1y of war : 40/rr60 dok, 33/33bg, and my last love 20/20 swordmaster
@leilakans O_o
a year of WAR, r33 BG and you missed the skill Dark protector?!? Well DP and AP were half bugged at 1.3.2, still wonder how you menaged to miss that skill.
For the first two tiers the Blackguard is simply a sight to behold. An amazing class to play and one of my favorite classes to play early on in a mmo.
As you get into tier 3 the BG becomes weak, he doesnt scale well and by tier 4 your left wishing you rolled another tank.
It's a shame.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
I have a 40 RR 80 Black Guard and I can tell you in the past this would have been true (before the AP and hate adjustments) as Black Guards as a tank can be one of the thorn in caster (light armor and medium damage DPS classes).
Just like the Warrior in WOW having and leveling a Black Guard depends 100% on the gear you are wearing up until levels 32 to 40 (when you are fighting folks in Dark promise and Tyrants set, then it doesn't really matter).
Starting a BG this is some pointers you wanna remember
T1 use a glaive and highest armor you can get with strength talismans.
T2 you can use both but being as you will be in PUG warbands and such it's best to have a shield and sword.
T3 you pretty much will be on guard duty until you have RR 50 and can wear the Conquers set with a focus on the defensive line as a Black Guard guarding healers and throwing Dark Protector on higher RR tanks (to keep hate up).
T4 Glaive specced
Remember, Black Guards are very dependent on gear, pots and liniments to be as effective as other tanks (talismans, pots and ointments) as their dynamic still seems to be kinked up by developers but, they are Order's healers and DPS nighmare (Witch hunter, Engineers, Bright wizards, Archmages). Usually if these guys are still standing after 5-6 swings of my glaive they are either hacking, being chain over healed by other healers.
You will become the healer's hassle, they will laugh at you for not being able to kill them. They will grow to hate your gut's however, when they start thinking. Why are my heals not healing as much!!!!?????? WTF i can't get my rez off!!????? Where the hell is all my AP going!!!??????? Why won't this BG leave me alone, he can't kill me.......... oh waitttt
Then the Blackguard being able to survive like no other. Why won't this fricken Blackguard die.... fuck his HP regen and high dmg mitigation... GRRRRR.
At the end of the day their just a plain nuisance for order. So if you like the idea of being a little kid, and poking your sibling in the arm over and over and over with a stick, then somehow not get a ass whopping from your parents. Then the Blackguard is for you!!!!
if you guard and holding line for weaker classes you do way more than you might think!
Thats what i mostly do with my black orc and chosen, if i wanted to do only dps i would roll a mdps class instead
