Ya know I was a hard core WoW player fro 4 years, was in one of the top guilds on my server, had 4 epic'd out 80's, and saw every single bit of content up to and including Ulduar. I didn't quit playing because of content or challenge,
I stopped reading right after this.
I hope you realise that whatever you are saying after that break is irrelevant.
Irrelevant to the state of the game, irrelavant to the state of the industry, irrelevant to us.
Why is that?
The "industry" wouldn't exist as it is today without WoW.
MMO players will never fully understand how much say that have in the mmo genre untiul they stop buying bad mmos.
If they did that then everyone would be playing WoW or the more obscure sandboxy titles...Hmmm... Could be a good thing aye?
Last time I checked most MMO players are still playing WoW. That hasn't changed and it does not look like its going to change in the next 2-3 years.
Or going back to WoW.
That's the problem, were spending cash and inferior games that clone WoW when were already happy with wow or played it to death. Stop buying boxes of games that want Blizzards pie and the genre will get better...well atleast the themepark side of the genre.
I'm playing Fallen Earth and loving it, I dont see an issue with MMO's, it is just finding one that is a good fit. I'd rather play an MMO by an indie developer(Icarus) then one develop by a bigger name(Cryptic comes to mind) and play a half-baked, rushed out the door product. (Star Trek Online)

There have only been two MMO's I have bought since WoW. AoC and Darkfall. Everything else I have helped test and/or was f2p and I never spent a penny.
Why should I pay for a product that only offers 1/10th of what WoW does at the same price WoW does.
I loved UO. It was one of the very few MMOs that could hold my interest for more than a few days. It also has a lot more staying power than most games being churned out today (its still here). I truly hope that UO stays around, at least long enough to inspire someone to pull us out of this post-WoW rut.
So you're playing UO? What's the problem? UO has like a hundred thousand subs today, if memory serves.
Are you unhappy with UO? I don't get it.
No, I'm not currently playing UO. But no, I don't have a problem with it either. UO is a great game that I played for a long time, but my time in it has passed. I'm just currently looking for new flavors.
That and I'm much more busy these days making games rather than playing them

Oh do tell....What'cha working on?
Well, we're developing a cyberpunk MMO (see my sig). But I don't want to hijack the thread. I'll post about our game once I have something more to post
Just give me a copy of UO in REAL TRUE 3D without trammel and at least 4k+ people playing daily I'll be satisfied.

I played UO since its beta and jumped ship once EQ is out. It is not that good a game. There is a reason why EQ overtook UO so fast.
It doesn't take a genius to know people don't like being ganked and prefer a game with a bit more direction.
EQ was awesome, the sheep in UO needed a place to go. they couldn't deal with UO and how harsh the game was.
People will take the road of least resistance my friend, this is why games like EQ/Wow sell and UO/Eve/Df cover a small niche.
You said it. These are games. UO is a pissed poor game and a murder simulator. Not very fun if you are mostly at the receiving end of ganging. Isn't consumer choice great?

A murder simulator? when did you play bro? UO had a lot going for it other than ganking.
Surprised someone who played the game would say this.
Your right consumer choice is a good thing, you can stay way over there and away from games you clearly don't understand.
We are the ones who buy these games,And spend our time playing them. But why say that the game is lousy, when we are the ones who can change it?..All we have to do is come together and request new content. All we do is complain about a game..But we are the ones who play there content,WHY CANT WE MAKE A CHANGE?
Ok, it sounds like you need to take your own advice here, you posted this earlier:
From all of the negative talk about Warcraft, its seems that the game is lacking alot and players are starting to just quit. The game is going Downhill for lots reasons: The gameplay is boring or needs to be improved,The game it self says its massive but where the heck is everyone? It seems like the game was fun in the past,But have they gone to far?-Will the New Expansion fix theses problems?-and what will the future hold for warcraft?-So will warcraft be worth giving another shot at?
I honestly think these two posts are some-what pointless in nature. It almost seem like you could take your own advice though, instead of complaining about a game being boring, instead just send your comments to the company. I doubt you will start a revolution of gamers demanding more content and such, while it would be nice, that's just not how the decisions are made generally.
It starts with developers. If we do not get fun games, then they do not get our money. Which in turn keeps many "MMO seekers" lurking around. We play many games based on hype, then people bash it away. The bottom line is, if it is not fun, then people will not play it. That's all there is to it...
The problem is, people do play it and then sit around and bitch about it, while still paying the developers money every month. So long as the money rolls in, the developers don't care, all they want is the money. That's why the MMO market is doomed, there are too many people who are willing to shell out money for crappy games because there isn't anything better to play. Until the majority of gamers are willing to *NOT PLAY OR PAY FOR ANYTHING AT ALL*, nothing will improve.

It is an ignorant assumption that people are willing to shell out money for games they aren't interested in playing. Human are rational creature, as such, they will only do things where the benefit out weight the cost. The kind of people who pay the money and sit around bitching about the game still find the game somewhat fun, or else they wouldn't be playing them. It might not be the ideal game they wanted, but there are still elements in the game that the player like. Second, no matter how bad the game is to those person, they still prefer that over games in other genera or god forbid doing a physical activity.
The second part of your argument is even worse than the first. If people stop paying for mmo all together as a form of protest to your so called shitty market. All that would do is shrink the market size for mmorpg and lower the appeal for developer to create more product in that market. Lets say hypothetically WoW is the crappy game that so many people here claim it to be and the entire WoW and all the WoW clone population stop subscribing and moved on to other genera like FPS, RTS, or AA games. All this would really do is make it all that more enticing for developer to create more games in those genera instead of mmorpg. This in turn would further slow down the development and improvement the mmo genera.
So yea, we all know that it is not going to happen because the market don't work that way and people are as stupid as you make them out to be.
In order to break free from the mundane you have to first break the overdependence. Why do you have to ask for change? Why can't you change it yourself? Learn to program. Design. Draw. Create. It is in everyone's power to make a difference but don't complain about someone else not doing it. Most production studios have a creative team which has producers which have managers which have investors which tell the managers what looks pretty and that comes primary to development. Production > Quality, Gameplay, Creativity. Take the 'capitalist' communist model. Games are made for the direct purpose of selling in game commodities and is farmed by the very makers of the game for profit. It is a sad world we live in lets hope our generation can get off it's ass and do something about it.

That is the stupidest thing i heard. You play games that are not fun to you? You need a new head. I don't do such things.
Don't confuse people playing games that are fun FOR THEM but NO YOU with games that are not fun at all.
Your MMO might be. Mine just keeps getting better.
Nice to know. I think the problem is that the business model for mmo has changed due to volatility of gamers. Well-established mmos have a huge advantages over the new ones in terms of content and stability. Why should I invest a lot of money in a game so that most of gamers leave for the next title in less than a year. Mmo business adapt by doing less investment in development and creating item shops for the core loyal crowd.
In this forum I read "too bad game X is not so good, it was the thing I was planing to play until game Y is released". So basically, here was told that somebody is planning playing a game for just a few months. This trend is an alert to mmo developers and operators to get quick cash before the gamer get bored because investing money would be not really profitable. That's probably the reason f2p are getting more and more the business model of choice for new mmos.
