Fallen Earth - Bad Free Timing

LienhartLienhart Member UncommonPosts: 662

Bad Company 2 just came out.

Final Fantasy XIII is in 5 days.

I'm not even gonna bother to touch the key even if it is free, no time.

Devs should have done research.

And later this year is cataclysm coming out, and the new civilization and heroes of might and magic and whatnot. There is always constantly new stuff released. Also, if you don't touch the key, someone else will, so it's no loss for the people from Fallen Earth, but your loss. You didn't pick up a key that you wouldn't use, right?

For the FE people it's no bad time. Since the start less than half a year ago, they had created a new tutorial, added graphics, performance and content patches, and later this year we'll get more content patches. So it makes sense they offer it now.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Bad Company 2 is not an MMOG, FFXIII is a totally different demographic than FE. FE is very much a love it or hate it type of game, so there is virtually no crossover from other demographics and genres. In other words, the people who might try FE out of simple curiosity aren't likely to stay with the game. It's the kind of game that someone will seek out usually. The only reason random people might grab a key is just because it's free and they happen to see the offer on this site...

Neither is StarCraft 2 an MMO but you think that's not gonna make people unsubscribe to MMO games for a little bit? After the initial WoW and "OMG!" , the scrubs will leave and SC2 will become like SC1 where you get your ass kicked on multiplayer simply for logging on.

Final Fantasy XIII is Final Fantasy, end of story. Every sale gets affected simply because it's a main series Final Fantasy.

And this is a shooter is it not? I played it for 3 seconds once, realized it was a REALLY bad TPS, and uninstalled.

Now I find out the dudes release free game time on the day of BC2's release, FFXIII coming out next week....bahahahahahaha.

They'll be lucky to get an extra $200 worth of subs per month doing this.

The people who would get distracted by these other games coming out would not be long term (6+ month) subscribers to Fallen Earth anyways. I love Starcraft as much as the next gamer, but I'm not going to stop subscribing and playing FE when SC2 comes out. Am I going to play FE less for a while when it comes out? Certainly, but I won't cancel my subscription for it. People need to understand and accept niche games. I have said this for many years, but people think everything needs to be a certain way to be successful, but that's just not the case... Success is very subjective. Icarus for instance knows it's niche, embraces it and doesn't expect or want anything more than to fill their little niche and be successful in that niche.

Its a bad timing becuse there will be a huge party this weekend here in Sweden.

See, we can all find something that makes the free time badly timed

You make it sound like the world is going to end in 2012 or something.

You know Bad Company 2 isnt going anywhere, nor will FF XIII or Fallen Earth for that matter.

  • WilliacWilliac Member Posts: 212

With these games coming out, i consider this a good timing. There mey be some players who will leave for a while as they try out these new games. Maybe they will come back later. In the meantime, those NOT interested in any of those games now have Fallen Earth on sale and, if lucky, for free. Lots of people don't give a crap for any of those games you mentioned and many others do. Point is, as mentioned by another before, there will never be a perfect timing. It's just impossible.

OP obviously doesn't play MMO's on a regular basis...otherwise he would find time to play.

    Devs should have done research.

Why on earth are you playing single player games when there's MMORPG's to be played?

I dropped single player games 8 years ago once I found this genre, just not fun anymore if there aren't other people to interact with.

They assume more folks are like me than you, especially in their demographic market.

FE i can sit and play for 2-3 hrs at a time.

Even though BFBC2 just came out 30-45 min tops is how long it takes to get my fix.

OP, there are new games, MMO's, and Betas starting up/coming out all the time.

When would you suggest they do it?  According to your logic, there would be no ideal time for them to do this.

That being said, you have absolutely no post history in this forum, so one could surmise no interest in the game, yet you felt compelled to come here and post a doom and gloom thread?

If you have no interest in the game, that's fine.  Enjoy your time in Bad Company 2, Global Agenda, WoW, or FF14 and I would recommend you quit wasting your time trying to convince others of something that simply isn't true.  You obviously aren't the type of player they are targeting and I'm sure they'll survive if you pass on the offer.  By passing it up, you're giving someone else that is interested a chance to try it for free and that's nothing but a win/win for player and Icarus.

Isn't it BC2 that has the bad timing? I mean, MW2 has only been out for a few months, and that's their main target market. How many people are going to drop playing MW2 to go with a whole new game of the same type?

    It's always something dude.

  • sanitysendsanitysend Member Posts: 123

Well I personally don't care about FF games. And BC2 is a totally different game type, so it's not competing with this at all. Oh well don't play then!

Actually, MW2 is becoming stale for a lot of players. I know BC2 was targetting MW2 but imo, they screwed up. MW2 is full of individuals who cannot aim (like Global Agenda). BC2 has a VERY high kick/recoil system meaning if you're against someone like me who hits his first 3 shots and you spray, you're gone. Granted, if you're good, and I miss my first burst (because I'm not an aimbot) I'll die.

MW2 was literally point and click in the general direction and ppl die. I don't think MW2 players will be happy w/ the aiming system in BC2. As for me, being a CS player originally, I like it.

And with regards to not playing MMOs; I play them more than single player games...until recently after burning out from Aion and WoW after another (WoW since 2006 on and off, Aion at launch). I realized how....tedious, boring, and dull doing the same shit over and over again is finally.

At least in BC2 the obstacles to the objective are NEVER static, you need to think (or you'll suck, end of story...or buy an aimbot). As for tanking in WoW, 5 4 3 2 1 2 3 5 8 2 (SHIT SHIELD WALL). Same with Aion. As for this game...oh man, this game has the aiming system of Fallout 3 LOL

I went an tried Dragon Age... which was supposed the best next-gen rpg for consoles...after playing mmos for so long, I just couldn't enjoy this game. It was beautiful, had some great ideas and story, but it felt empty without people..

sure, a lot of idiots and trolls live in my game world, but i will take a hundred gold spammers on ignore over a game world that has absolutely no people.

I will not waste 59.99 on FFX3 when it is a boring linear out dated style of play.

I'll spend 14.99 next month to enjoy a not-so-polished, but enjoyable mmo like Fallen Earth because they are representing the direction and attitude I want and feel this genre needs.

Nobody needs to QQ or troll what FE has done.

It's like someone hands you a dirty 50 dollar bill and you say, "No, thanks. I'll wait for a clean hundred to come my way."

Applauds to FE. You just might shock the rest of the industry to step in line.

    P.S.

I just found AOC at Best Buy for 6.99..lol..now that's affordable.

Let me just get something straight here. You, the OP are saying Icarus has released a FREE retail product key to players and given them 30 days FREE to play their game, and it is bad timing. April Fools right? sorry guess we are a month off. I'm going to take this as a sick joke on your behalf. HAHA, alright, it was funny. But i will tell you for sure, that i grabbed my key when i could.

All of you please imagine this *** wavy dream lines with hands ***

That's like someone offering you a free klondike bar, and you just looked at them and said " OOOH NO! NO WAY! see this cliff over here? I'm going to jump off it because YOU , YES YOU , offered me this free klondike bar!! I HAVE NO TIME FOR YOUR SILLY GAMES!!"  .

And then you , as the person who offered that free klondike bar to the that person you just sit there and think. " what the HECK just happened here?!"

I don't see it as bad tbh. In relation of MMO's - It's free time - giving players a chance to check out the game for longer than a regular trial, leaving people who weren't impressed how beta went and people who are on the fence on what game to play at the moment.

And if all the keys are used up, that is 2000 possible prospects of new subs to FE. At least one person is bound to sub at the least IMO.
