So many to choose...

Are there too many MMOs to choose from these days? I don’t know whose idea it was to start producing a dump truck full of options, but I can say it can be overwhelming to anyone looking for their interest. So we can go on over to the, “looking for a new game” forum and ask people give insight on what we’re looking for. This is all well and good, but is it necessary? Do we really need so many games, most of which repeat the same content? When do we decide to get rid of the repeat mentality and focus on the new advancement in gaming technology?

Single player games tend to focus on this trend, making games with new ideas and innovations; but wait a minute MMO are supposed to keep us enthralled in the game, why are all these clones coming out? How about something new, something that brings us together to experience the next level of gaming.

Recently Cryptic released Star Trek Online, this was an interesting move, releasing a game very different from the standard, but in actuality they cloned an old single player. Was this an innovation in gaming technology or another move to produce shelved goods? There are many opinions to what I stated above, but remember it’s only my opinion.

I would like to hear your response. Do you want a game that keeps up with the standards or something different?
