Have played many mmorpgs and Wow is just the most polished everything works held off playing it for years as my ex wife was addicted to it! But took the plunge it is the Ford of mmorpgs does everything well not the best have played FF11 LOTRO Giuld Wars CO Eve and Aion before Wow .
Plus i have a busy life so it is easy to pick up and play and loving the fact that i can play it on my desktop on ultra settings and also on my atom netbook on low settings on the couch in front of the tv so is perfect for me
I never thought I would come back but here I am playing on Winterhoof 20 blood elf warlock and 20 tauren druid. I play because I finished up my titles in Guild Wars and currently waiting for Guild Wars 2. Also, despite what some post on the forums WoW is really a fun game to play even if alof of content now is soloable.
I played wow for quite a while after star wars galaxies got trashed by S.O.E., it was an alright place holder mmorpg. Grinding gear to grind more gear to have the gear you needed to get the next set of gear to set in Dalaran with started feeling a lot more like a barbie outfit simulator. If you don't have the new princess dress and barbie corvette then you cant run the barbie mansion with us. Maybe its your thing and maybe you see it different, good for you !
I really do like people who love what they are doing,I really do. but its not a miracle that WoW players dont like MMORPG´s its pretty much this kind of scenario " hey tennis(wow) player there, wanna join us and play some Football(Ultima Online) with us? -Tennis(wow) player : sorry no lol,I dont know what that dirge even is :< lol omg ,yor mom dont know even how to play it. -Football(Ultima Online) player : Its ok,till we meet again.
Ok so I wasnt going to post anything just was looking through all the posts but I HAD to say something about this post...
Not only did this analogy (I'm guessing what that was supposed to be) make absolutely no sense, but it was also the worst attempt at making an argument about WoW in a negative light I have ever seen....
I would have to say, because its a fun game, and when i need a break from Eve, however briefly, i always find i can unwind in WoW, having said that, looking forward to cataclysm
i'm playing the beta...it's not that good. After playing Company of Heroes most RTS games seem to lack something.
Maybe because you don't really like RTS games? Company of Heores, Dawn of War, those are basically just DoTA games, not really an RTS.
Beta privileges revoked!
I'm fairly certain Company of Heroes you have to build a base and control more than one unit. I know Dawn of War you build a base and control an army. Those are RTS games.
Have you played DotA? I assume you have. DotA has 1 hero that you control. One. A single unit. If Company of Heroes and Dawn of War have hero units in thier armies, it doesnt make them a DotA game. WC3 had heroes with the armies.
There are only a handful of DotA-like games out. DemiGod, League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, DotA and Bloodline Champions. Its a very new genre.
I had a blast when I had a chance to try the SC2 beta. I think the game holds true to the style and gameplay of SC but its different enough to have its own merit. I, personally, cant wait for SC2.
And if I had the spare time/cash I would pick up WotLK and resub WoW in a heartbeat. Its a great game and I had a lot of fun with it but had to drop it due to finances. I've played many MMOs and WoW is still fun to me.
I beta'd WoW. I played the first month it went live. Dropped it until Burning Crusade. When they added BUrning Crusade and Blood Elves I came back and tried it and have been subscribed since then. Can't wait until Cataclysm and what lies beyond.
Nobody disliked the direction WoW was taking this genre than I did back when WoW first launched. I thought, well kiss good games goodbye. I can admit when I am wrong and it is not that WoW took games in the wrong diection it is the game designers post WoW that messed up. WoW is actually like playing EQ, AC, and DAoC all rolled into one. How can you dislike that! All Blizzard really needs to do is add more BG's that offer some cool game play, add guild halls, housing, seasons. tweak crafting, add a few more poly's to models and maybe some cool lighting effects and more character customization and I'll never play another game again. You know give us more options and a little more toys and WoW would be a great hybrid sandbox/themepark MMORPG. It is 3/4 of the way there now.
There is more to WoW than just raiding BTW. Do you know how many quest are in this game? My friend that has been playing since day one has obtained the title of Lore Master just this year. That is no easy task for a casual player. Yes she has multiple 80's like the rest of us, but there's definitely enough quest to keep you busy and achievements to be had, mounts to obtain, places to visit and see. Just to give you an ideal of how much there is to see. Many of my friends who have been playing since day one did not even know that certain places existed in the game! Yeah they blew right through the world to get to Northrend and missed some awesome things. Had to tell them about them after the fact and only after I stumbled across them by accident because there are no quest that take you to them, you just have to find them by exploring.
When you look at the polish of the game and the paying attention to detail as Blizzard has with the game...is it any reason why it is the most played P2P premium game on the planet?
Oh and I have played many MMORPG's...have been since 1999. Some could have been incredible if the game companies that ran them didn't muck them up or would have made them better. DAoC was one of them. That game could have definitely been on my computer for years if Mythic had not screwed with the old game and just expanded on it. Maybe add new factions and new game worlds to explore. Asheron's Call...OMG if Turbine had redone AC as they should have instead of giving us a game they called AC2 - imagine AC with better graphics and potentially better game play? AC would have rocked. So much potential in so many games and yet what game do I play after all these years - the game I disliked so much I once gave it a 4 out of 10 in a review I did for the game over at IGN. LOL! Go figure.
I'm glad you're enjoying the game, but I really can't understand why people need to make threads explaining it. Especially WoW related topics. That's like playing with Fire. You always get burned.
~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!

Relax man, I was just being dismissive because of his reasoning. CoH and DoW are enjoyable in their own right, but comparing them to SC is just uninformed.
The reason you still play warcraft is... because you know nothing else, it's what you're used to. Try anything else and you'll be surprized at how much money you've been wasting, when pretty much every f2p game out there offers the same basics. (Sorry if that sounds negative, but it is true for most wow players)
I suggest you try to prove that.
Its funny how many people make that claim and never rattle off a list of titles. Also had to laugh at "free" to play games being some money saver over a sub fee.

I resub now and again to play amongst the Blood Elves, for the Horde!
