No it's not hard to solo as you can just run missions, which you will want to run anyways for your token board, but with that said it is far faster to join groups.

How fast you solo,i.e. kill mobs, will depend on the class you pick.

Make sure to download Clicksaver as it will help you roll for mission items you want/need and also to make quick cash selling items wanted/needed by others.

A nice guide on how to make cash  http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?t=320326

The best list for items to mission for and make cash I have ever found and what level mission/Qaulity to get and there rough value  http://www.aofroobs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=8266

To go with the above just mission for your Nano's(spells/buffs) as it is far faster and cheaper than trying to buy them from shops. Past Qaulity level 120 you'll only get them from missions/drops/dyna bosses anyways , unless you have the money to spend millions, per nano , to buy from other players =)

With that said, after noob island you have instances you can jump right into solo or in groups Subway up til 24, Temple of the Three Winds til 60 and Foremans after.

Just put yourself LFG(team) and in the comments section whether you are a free to play toon(froob) or what expansions you have as it helps people grab you knowing if you can access the same content.

Hope that helped some and sorry about the rambling =)

P.S. I'd also like to add, the game may seem to be dead depending on the side you choose and timezone you live in(game is more active euro times), for that I recommend you stay nuetral at first as Borealis is really active no matter what time of day and being neutral allows to to go and visit the other 2 factions cities(can't buy anything though).

Also note that faction does not stop you from grouping with each other, but may hamper how you get around as guards from faction cities won't like you(except nuetrals of course).

It's not hard to solo but can be boring. The majority of 'content' is instanced missions that can cause you to spend 10 times as much time running to the mission locations as you do actually in the mission instance. Joining an organization can help in acquiring groups. There's one recruiting right now in this forum.

The use of Clicksaver can help reduce the amount of travel time by choosing mission locations near each other. Also purchasing a cash shop vehicle for less than $10.00 early on can help. Or wait until you can afford a cheap Yalmaha at around 4 million credits. On your first character this will probably happen somewhere above level 60 or a very generous veteran player.

If you are a froob it's not so much hard to solo as it is boring and ineffective. It could take you a year or two to reach the max froob level soloing, though this depends on your class. If you have a paying account you can solo very well till about level 90 or so then it becomes next to impossible. Paying account can get to 100 in about a day, froobs will take a few weeks just to get to 100, and 100-200 is an insane grind for payed players...

You can't level up solo past level 50 or so :p I will get flamed for this, but it is true. You could solo grind all the way, but doing so would take years. Instead, you will find yourself sitting in a garden for hours at a time spamming lfg so you can go kill rocks on a beach.

You can solo, but like they said, running missions alone all the way to 200 would be very boring, and dont get missions confused with quests like in WoW or something, you get a missions from a terminal load up the waypoint and go to it, fight through some mobs to either: kill, observe, find item, or take item back.

I dont think soloing missions to 200 would take a year either, but it would surely take 6 hours 4-5 times a week for atleast 4-5 months im sure.  You could, i guess if you wanted to, just start walking in to the open world and find some mobs to solo off of, but that would take just as long if not longer, AO is huge and vast, you could walk for an hour or two and might not see mobs worth killing.  I wouldnt recommend playing this game if you're an advid soloer.
