I was interested in this game for many reasons, including a bunch of recommendations from other users on these forums. So I went over to the official forums and I can not believe how immature and angry all the players are.
I realize that most of the forum talk is going to be negative because people having fun don't post as often. But even when comparing DF to Wows childish forums, DF looks bad.
Is the in-game community as bad as the forums? Because even if its just a fraction of the hostility and rudeness that are rampant on the forums I will not even try Darkfall. I want a supportive and nice community, I dont want to be attacked for every little thing i say.
P.S. I wanted to post this on the DF forums but after I registered they never sent me a email to activate my account, so whatever.

its a pvp open world.....so most of the community is hard core pvp. If you are not a hard core pvp ,then you will have to try harder,but you can still find people to enjoy the game with. And by the way,its not a person sending you back the activation email,its a bot.

Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

What DF are you guys playing? I have had nothing but a positive experience in game. But then again the better community is in the game and not on the forums. Yes it's open pvp where everybody is somebody's @#$%^. Just a game mechanic we have to deal with.
I did find a lot of jerks, but I also found a good sum of players who were fun to hang out with.
Still, 50/50 hasn't happened to me community wise, ever, even in WoW it was like four nice people to every one jerk.

I realize that there are jerks everywhere. Just curious if there was a larger than normal population of them in Darkfall. A solid community is make or break for me. Still thinking about trying it out
Finnished the trial last week, and have to say after reading some of the horror storys on these forums I went in expecting a community something akin to wow teens on crack crossed with phisycotic axe murderers. have to say I was very surprised to find a very helpful community. Every question was answerd and plenty of help was given. Of course I encounterd a few ass hats but certainly no more than on any other of all the mmo's I have played. Maybe seven days wasn't long enough to encounter every facet of the playerbase but my experiance in my time on the game was very poistive.
HappyPants it's only a $1 seriously just splurge and try it out ^_^. Super fun game.
The community is generally really good in DF. Lots of friendly people willing to answer questions and help out.
Even your enemies for the most part are decent guys. Yeah, there's smack talk on the forums, but most of it's in good fun.
From day 1 that i have played, someone helped me out to kill some goblins and gave me some nice armor and weapons. Yesterday, someone gave me a bunch of enchanting materials for free. I have never rcv'd a hate tell, which is quite odd for any MMO. I find the community to be superior to pretty much any game i have played. The only one that i think compared, and from what i hear it might have only been the server i was on, was LotRO.
The company always has protected the current playerbase.

So this more or less sums up the "Quality" of players on DF? Just because it is "Hardcore" PvP doesn't mean you have to act like a child. I hope you enjoy playing this game with other like minded "l33t d3wds" because thats all that will be left.

Darkfall has an aggressive community due to the direction of the game (ffapvp).
Aggressive doesn't mean bad.

This game has a fantastic community. The key is to get yourself into a well organised and mature clan. Don't worry if the first one you join up with isn't your cup of tea, spend the time to find one that is a good fit.
Tip: If you're on the sensitive side, don't read race alliance, rarely do they have in-depth discussion on unicorns or ponies. If anyone is judging the game's community on crap like this, then you've spent very little time on the internet.
The community was not bad at the beginning of the trial, but it progressively got worse as each day passes by. RA was being spammed consistantly with slangs, anti-mmo, gangsta wannabes, and lastly the feel of superiority over everyone new. It's a PvP only game, you aren't exactly going to get a good community of adults....

The degeneration in quality of the n00b-land community is directly due to the trials. See, before the $1 trial, the only people in the game had to pay $50. As such you didn't have 100000 little shits contaminating the game...you had people who were serious about playing.
Also.....you might wanna tell all those mobs that the game's "PVP only" since they seem to have not gotten the message.
I played for a week,and to tell the truth ,i never even noticed if there was a chat channel lmao.So in 7 days i have absolutely no comment about the community,but that's a good thing right?I have not had one single day that the EQ2 community has not left me wanting to log out every day.
PVP forums are NEVER going to be friendly and PVE forums usually contain some form of ,who is the best or worst player you ever grouped with posts.
DF is a basic vanilla twitch combat game,that really does not offer much to arguing over,so i can't figure it,except for possibly the cheats who are using cheat programs with everything from speed/warps/macros/aimbots.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

call me cynical, but I have some serious doubts that off all the games you've ever tried, the DF community was the one that was sooo terrible that it caused you to create an account here at MMORP and post for the very first time just to point it out.

No, it's because the type of response given has been more often the norm from the idiotic Darkfall community. Indeed, not everyone that plays DF is a jerk, but the game's community does have a far higher percentage of human garbage than just about any other MMO I've ever played.
Hell, a ton of the worst DF players actually go out of their way to attempt to be perceived as internet tough guys. They wear that on their sleeves, as if it made them "cool".
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Stop chatting in race alliance, how many times does it need to be said? You should be researching clans as soon as you get on your feet in this game. Find a group a people that fit with your playstyle and maturiy level. Nothing in this game is handed to you, take some initiative.
As I've stated many times over and I'll state it again: Darkfall's community is one of the best if not THE best communities I have ever had the pleasure to play with.
However, if you want to judge the community based solely off of the forums, then I can see why you'd think the community is bad. The official forums are a place for clans and alliances to trash talk, make fun of each other, and laugh about good times (and misfortunes). What fun would a game that involves so much politics in the actual gameworld be if everyone held hands and sang kum-bay-ya around a campfire? It wouldn't be fun at all!
Now, what happens in the game? Well, for the most part you'll find a bunch of mature players that enjoy the politics, the espionage, the backstabbing, the secret alliances, the random help from a stranger, etc that happens daily. Hell, ask people who are playing the trial and see how many of them are getting help from veteran players. I myself have donated 20 PvP ready bags to players I see have the newbie protection sign over their heads, and countless, countless others are helping as well.
I'm getting kind of sick of seeing these threads, because 99% of the time they're from people who have never played the game and make their opinions based on what they see on a forum or hear from a troll. Either way, I'm off to play with my friends (and enemies) and have a blast with one of the best communities I've seen since Ultima Online.
