@vaultfairy My understanding is that they made night darker than intended and will be adjusting.
Ah right, okay cool. It is a bit too dark to be honest... Just logged into play and it crashed so no idea if it is me or the server but i'll try again.
Would be nice to try a different MMO.
Its you. Go on the mortal forum, check the support forum, check the sticky threads. Those threads will help you to get reed of the crash.
For the bug part, the only bug i got in game is when i login, i cant see any NPC's, i cant mine or woodcutting. Im guessing that im offline. So what i do, i disconnect and i try to relogin. If it say connect failed, its because i was right, the server was close. If i can reconnect, bugs will get fixed once in game, i will get respawned in the same spot and i can keep doing my things normally. My only problem with combat currently, weapon wave slash hit box need some work. Even if you do a wave attack, you cant hit stuff that are at the side of your screen. You can only hit stuff on your crosshair and you cant see your crosshair. Since its beta, i have a lot of trust for that team and i believe they will fix that problem. The MO devs are the best at communication because in the beta forum, in some sticky thread, they ask the player what they want to see. Then, they work on the most demanded stuff.
That seems like my problem but i thought there are no NPC's cause it's night. Someone said on here that you start off with some kind of axe to collect wood from. But everytime i create a new character my backback is empty, unless i have to do some kind of quest..
Edit: I havn't crashed since so i'm guessing it's a one off.

Well, the server might be offline. Sometime, its offline, but there is no way to know before you login. BTW, there are only 2 starter towns with npc's. The 2 towns with no race name.
If you dont start with an axe and a sword, i dont know what is happening to you.
"If someone doesn't like the game it is because they hate sandboxes" is the dumbest argument I heard, it is like saying that if you don't like Wow it is because you hate themeparks.
I have nothing for or against MO but sandboxes can be everything from UO to Eve and it is ok to like some or not. In some cases you just like a game or not and it isn't because it is a certain genre. Sandboxes differs a lot from eachoteher. You can hate Eve and love Ryzom.
I have no other comment about the OP and his post but that line was not the brightest.
Yes but thats the main argument used against any critisism of MO- Seriously.
I LOVE Sandbox games and always have since the early days of UO. I WANTED MO to work but its a bug filled, unfinished, unplayable mess. I gave up on the "Open Beta" weeks ago and will not be checking back in.
The OP MAY be correct that things have been fixed (I dont know) but my experience left such a bad taste in my mouth towards SV that its not worth it to me to see if they bothered fixing a simple patcher. I have many other posts around here explaining my experiences so I will spare you the details but let me say it simply...I Love Sandbox games and hate MO. Mo is a broken sandbox filled with mud and broken plastic shovels- Sure, SV is promising all kinds of greatness and surprises but I have been hearing that for months now.
The game may be playable NOW but theres really nothing to do.... Really.

I hate wow because i hate theme parks. To let you know, my 1st mmorpg was wow. Then, i move on to AOC, hated it, then i move on to a sandbox game and found out that sandbox games are better then theme park mmorpg after all. When i play a single player type game, i always put the difficulty at the hardest mode possible. Im from the nintendo generation and im tired of easy games nowdays.
Your argument fails too. IF soemone hate street fighter 4, its because he hate fighting games. IF someone hate starcraft, its because he hate strategy game.
It do not work in all argument. For example, someone can hate Street fighter 4 and love tekken. In that case, he hate 2D style fighting game, but he love 3D fighting game where you have to learn a lot more combo combination to win a fight.
In MO case, i said, if you hate sandbox games, and you hate mmorpg with FPV only option, then you will hate MO. I could had add if you hate simulation games too because MO is really realistic(Dont mention that fire ball please.) EVE is a target base game liking a sandbox game like Eve do not mean you will like an FPS game like MO.
So please, you had to take in note that i did not say sandbox only in my argument. I said sandbox and FPS. Realist should had been added, full loot too. Fallen earth claim he is a sandbox game with no full loot. so i had to mention full loot too.

Yeah i got them now, started in one of the cities like you said. Plus it's daylight too but logged in and someone was already trying to pickpocket me. Good job i don't have anything valuble.
Please don't talk about sandbox here... MO's only sandbox like thing is that you can build houses. And nothing else. The rest of the game is even worst than a thempark mmo where you can do multiple things. Here you are limited in every possible way.Fustrating. It's not even mmo , cause after 1000 player it lags, not even sandbox, but not even roll play, but bug and lag and excuses from both sides fans and devs. The World is "The land Of NO excuses" - Cut the bullshit "This is only beta" talk. Just say "this is shit cause we make it to be shit"
What is Role playing for you? Saying that you cant role play in MO.
I dont know whats on your mind to explain what is a sandbox, but thats for sure, you know nothing about a sandbox game. You are not limited, you just need to gain some money to buy books to learn all the basic and other skills.
For your 3rd paragraph, i dont know what you mean. Seriously, you seem confuse to make the difference between a sandbox and a thempark and i dont have time to explain to you whats a sandbox game.
For the frustration part, what do you mean? OK, we get lost. Get use to the beta that still lack some mobs. Chat with ppl around town to get some help. Thats what i did most of my time and no more frustration for me. Its an mmorpg, you need to communicate, the game itself wont hold your hand from the start to the end like a in a theme park game.
They got 20 devs. the graphic are really high. Animation are quite good too, they plan to add 10 hit box on 1 character. Quality is better then quantity i still think. If they manage to get 2000 players in one server, that would be great. Its a server trest test so now, they have time to focus on the possible player cap in one server.
The patch tomorrow fixing the day/night bug and hopefully the sync problem and several other bugs. We will be able to build stables and get some more content. Lets see how it work after that patch.
"Monday's patch will be almost exclusively dealing with the desync / performance issues and critical bugs. This should hopefully solve most of the problems you guys are experiencing at the moment.
Content wise you can look forward to stables and more props, ressources and mob spawners - breathing more live into the world of Nave."

Samdbox is not an absolute term. Here are a few way that MO allows more freedom than most MMOs.... You can attack any player anywhere (with consequences). You can steal from other players. You can learn skills in any combination you want (as opposed to classes. Housing will not be instanced.
What else needs to be done to make it more "sandboxy"?
Even when the sync issues are fixed, the game is still going to be boring with a slow, slow slow combat system.
Yep, I hope they make is faster and sharper, just feels sloppy right now!
Melee is only slow if you use a bad weapon (like the starting mining axe/sword) and have low skill on that weapon. If you have higher skill and use a better crafted weapon, ... it's really fast but still realistic, exciting and very tactical. It's not as in WoW where you just spam attacks. In MO, every single hit is important. You have to aim also and you got 10 hit boxes.
it does sound like it currently comes closer to the Darkfall model. That's still more sandbox than most MMO's, but less than I would like. My impression is still that they intend to work more towards the UO/SWG model.

Even if it does follow the Darkfall mofel more closely, that is still the middle of the sandbox/themepark continuum. Pulling it further in the sandbox direction is the fact that they have housing additions/add-ons (stables, etc) so even after the house is built it is still modifiable. Also, if they follow the Darkfall model a large enough number and variety of house locations starts to approach the UO/SWG model.
P.s. Was that meant to read as sarcastic/condescending or was that simply a request for information? It seems like the former, but sarcasm kind of falls flat in writing. Too bad there isn't someway to punctuate that .~

Actually, it's bad even if you have good crafted weapons that have a good swing speed, as well as all the necessary skills to use it.
The combat has no depth. But it's nice to see them focus on their crafting system, because that's really why people will stay with the game... LOL

Well.. yeah you can build a house... but it has to be in a pre-determined (and limited) house slot... and there isn;t much is any customization.

Aren't the player "backgrounds" pretty much classes? Do they not come with predefined skills?
Predefined housing in predefined locations is sandbox?
I win!!! LOL@U

The backgrounds are only a starting point, you can unlearn all of those skills.
"sandbox" is not an absolute. Housing options in ascending order of "sandbox".
No housing (WoW, EQ1)
Instanced housing [i.e. all the houses are in the same place(s), you select which you wantat the entrance] (Asheron's Call, EQ2)
Houses are in fixed, predetermined locations (Darkfall)
Houses can be placed anywhere, with certain geographic limitations [i.e. no trees blocking, ground needs to be reasonably flat] (UO, SWG)
Deformable landscape, housing can be placed anywhere (2nd life, Love)
My impression is that MO housing is more or less along the lines of SWG, UO (or at least that is the long term plan)
Ok, on reading this thread---> http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/37170-will-possible-create-buildings-anywhere.html
it does sound like it currently comes closer to the Darkfall model. That's still more sandbox than most MMO's, but less than I would like. My impression is still that they intend to work more towards the UO/SWG model.

Largely based on Mats responses in this thread ... http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/12948-complete-pvp-polishing-beta.html#post293188 . In particular the statements about building houses in areas not accessable to siege weapons if you want to ensure your house not getting attacked. That, and people like diekfoo.
Even if it does follow the Darkfall mofel more closely, that is still the middle of the sandbox/themepark continuum. Pulling it further in the sandbox direction is the fact that they have housing additions/add-ons (stables, etc) so even after the house is built it is still modifiable.
