Need help finding my self a mmorpg

ExstazExstaz Member UncommonPosts: 20

I have not bin able to find my self a game after i stopped playing SWG this fall. SWG have bin with me for 5 years and is till miss it but i know i will get bored ones i start playing it again.

I have tried LOTR online for about 2 month didn't stick to me. I tried Linage II and loved it but the grind just became to much. I tried Eve several times and always get bored after a month or 2. Tried Vanguard but not for me, Ive played a half done game from SOE for over 2 years already (thats what it took SOE to fix the most problems in SWG after NGE). Tried Aion like it but not sure i want to give it a go, i just cant find enough good things to make me want to play it full time. Bought WoW tried it for 5 hours uninstalled it.

Games i am waiting for is Tera and SWtor.

What I'm looking for in a mmorpg is the following:

Good community

Not full of bugs

Decent looking, dont have to be the best looking game but ok looking

Diversity among the classes. I want to be able to build my own class and not follow a preset skillset like in LOTR online

Thats what i want for now but might come up with more stuff later on. So give me your suggestions, just dont say you should try this or that. give me a motive to why i should try it.

Give Darkfall a shot. $1 for 7 days... if you don't like it, your out a dollar.

You haven't said a lot about what your looking for, other than open progression which Darkfall certainly has as it's based on grinding skills as opposed to levels and there are no classes. But based on how you've reacted to other games you might really like it.

The grind is a bit daunting compared to more mainstream MMORPGs like WoW and such, but I think the games get's a worse rap than it deserves because A: It's daunting more because the game doesn't hold your hand and walk down you down the progression path and B: A lot of player are that try a agame like Darkfall are keen to jump right into hardcore PvP right the hell now, and that's just not happening (without a strong group anyway). It's certainly not Lineage II.

...oh and I am NOT your typical DFO Fanboy, in fact I USED to be what your typical DFO Fanboy would call a "Vaportroll" because for some reason not trusting a game that languished in the worse sort of development hell for several years is somehow unreasonable. But I started playing when they offered the trial... and now I can't put it down.

So yeah, give it a shot.

Darkfall hands down - I've been looking for an MMO since SWG and this is it. The open pvp and full loot makes for an interesting game and is not for the care bear, but man is this game fun!

Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.

I waited for DF for 3 years lol but gave up on it cause of the bad press it got. I now picke dup one of thoose free Fallen Earth keys for the retail game and 1 month of game play. After checking it out a bit more it sounds kinda great. Im installing it now but i sure will give DF a try to.

Fallen Earth is a good game too...I played it for a while...it needs a little more work.....they need to add player housing...etc but it may turn into a really good game later. I played Darkfall and cancelled my FE sub :)

    To address you points specifically:

The forum community, here on MMORPG.com and the official forums is TERRIBLE. But I never go to the official forums, and I take most of what I read here with a wheel barrel of salt. The community in-game however is COMPLETELY diffrent, and not at all what I expected from a game with full-loot open world PvP. Most everyone in a game is really cool. The community is a strong and social and there are a LOT of players looking out for and helping the newbie community.
Yes you'll get ganked and lose all you stuff... but if your cool about it because A: You understood that about the game going in. B: You planned ahead, visited the bank when you should have, and never had anything on you that wasn't specifically needed for the task in hand so you didn't loose anything you couldn't afford to then actually you can make some friends this way.

Not that I can tell anyway.

(this is somewhat subjective of course) When you boot up darkfall for the first time with default settings, it will look like a bag of deep fried hammered yak ass. You might even throw up a little. I did. Kidding, but it's bad. Really, Really bad. Because DFO is a open PvP game with twitch combat where aiming counts, lag and poor framerates will kill you. As such the graphics in DFO are highly scalable. Take the time to dial in your resolution (which defaults really low by modern standards) fool around with the effects, do what you gotta do to the get the graphics setting right for you machine, and the game is actually pretty damned good looking. The character models and animations are kinda "meh" not bad just kind of mediocre, the world itself in my opinion is absolutely beutiful. The definately a reall atmosphere to the game which is very important to me.
    Diversity among the classes.

No classes. Train whatever skills you want to, whenever you want to. Tank Mage? You bet.

I now tried Fallen Earth and im loving it. just the type of mmorpg i was looking for. It have always sounded great but looking on youtube made me not wanting to play cause of the poor graphics. But after finding a video with everything on full it made me rethink it, sure its not the nicest looking game out there but it sure aint that bad.

FE was one of those games where it was play the trial for a couple of hours before uninstalling it.  It sounded nifty, but I guess I had some earwax or something...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I picked up the free client and 1 month sub from here. I must say i was a bit frustrated at first but after a few hours of play and i started to learn how the game worked it became more and more fun and addicting. But i guess a sandbox game like this with a high learning curve don´t suit everyone.
