WAR from a returning player that was there in beta

Warhammer Online was my First MMO when I started playing it in Open Beta and I LOVED it. After awhile I started getting bored of the game and Darkfall Online just came out so I decided to quit WAR and started playing Darkfall Online. I played DF for a few months and it was ok but I ended up getting frustraded with that game and heard about AION coming out so I quit Darkfall and played D&D Online (Which is pretty good for free) until Aion came out. AION was all hyped up and supposed to be this great game and I didn't see anything in the game it felt like a watered down Warhammer with alot more grind. SO I tried out Fallen Earth Online and it was pretty good but lacked an end game goal for me and I got bored fast. Soooooo..

After Seeing if the grass was greener on the other side and finding nothing but dirt I decided to come back to the MMO that popped my MMO cherry.....Warhammer.

Some people say that Warhammer has not changed much since it launched but It actually has, its just some of the changes are smaller things that go on in the background.

One of the most noticable changes is the introduction of the Land Of The Dead which is practically another Zone with Open areas, PQ's and Instances. And with Land of the Dead came along new weapons and armor, which from what I hear are the best pve gear in the game. To get into the LOTD each side has to turn in Expedition resources which you loot from dead players and fill up a meter to be able to get into the zone. It is a RvR zone though so Say if Order gets access Destro cannot get in for 30mins i think it is before they can turn in more Resources and if they fill the bar while order is still in there they can come in and kill all the order in the zone. Since destro would have rites to the Zone they would spawn in the LOTD if they die but order would not since they no longer claim rites to the area.

Another change is the Insignias, Crests, Medallions. Which drop off players and given out for completing a scenario. These can be traded to certain Npc's For Weapons and even Armor like Invader etc. This is called RvR Currency and there is even a separate backpack tab for them so they all all together and don't take up space in your main pack.

No More Forts. Now when you push 2 zones instead of going to the fortress you go straight to the City so it makes it easier to get a chance at end game gear and the king.

Keeps have different Ranks depending on How much the guild that claimed the keep upgraded it and higher rank keeps give better loot (So I hear from the devblogs anyway. I have not been able to test this yet). Keeps can be upgraded with Champion guards instead of normal mobs and more door health etc.

The scenarios that are available have changed and every weekend there is an even that lets you play the scenarios that are not in the normal selection. Check out Warhammers website of the official list of scenarios for each tier. I was surprised to in the norden watch scenario in tier 4 it was pretty interesting.

High level guilds get access to armored mounts that look cool and make it harder for players to dismount you.

Graphics have been improved with a new setting called O so shiny which is above the High setting. Also performance has been improved so its less likely to be a lag fest while there are alot of players on screen.

Crafting is still pretty much the same as it was when they introduced the BOP seeds that make the Linament potions. BUT Remember how crafting took up your whole damn backpack and bank? Well now you get a whole separate Backpack for crafting! SO for each regular backpack you have you have a tab that has that amount of backpacks just for crafting. so at level 40 I have my regular backpacks PLUS a tab with that many crafting backpacks. Also there is another tab for Currency.

Plus theres alot more smaller changes that I didn't list and maybe even a big change that I forgot since I just came back to the game I might have missed something.

SO My opinion as a returning player is that while the game has not drastically changed it has made progress and I am enjoying my time back in the game. The new RvR currency and the fact that Forts are gone make it much easier to get gear that when I quit was pretty much impossible to get. I worry that that they might have made it to easy to get some of the gear but I just got back into the game so thats something I will have to see as I go along. I have not had a chance to do anything in the LOTD yet because you need to complete the PQ's to get Glyphs that allow you to enter the instances and I just have not tried to get a group together yet to do them. But the LOTD seems really cool and is a nice chunk of content, I can't wait to get my hands on a nice weapon of armor from there. Overall I am really enjoying the game since I came back just a few days go, while only time will tell if I continue to enjoy it so far it seems like there is more content to the game to keep me busy. I don't feel like I am doing certain things just to grind Renown anymore because you get the Crests etc and it adds another level of accomplishment to the game when you get a rare crest.

If you are wondering if it is worth coming back to warhammer In My opinion I would say YES and even if you never played warhammer but you are disappointed with the MMO's out there now give WAR a chance for sure. I don't understand why WAR gets such a bad rap when its a much better game then AION and AION gets really good reviews, Its a shame really. After trying the other MMO's out there there rite now I think WAR is my fav. I have not played Ago of Conan so I can not compare WAR to it but as far as the other mmos out are concerned I think War is my top choice rite now.

I have only been back to war for a few days so hopefully I don't end up eating my words lol. But so far so good

Preaching to the choir mate. Glad to read that you are enjoying yourself, try and find a active guild with voice comms - it will add to the enjoyment.

For me the fundamental problems are still there... you have a massive open RvR game which can only support a few warbands in the same area without unplayable lag, and by design more and more players are funneled into smaller areas as the campaign progresses and you lock zones down. This is what makes the game crap imo and its the only reason me and all my RL friends (around 10 of us) left. I've tried resubing 3-4 times but ORvR-wise, the game is the same with lag and unresponsive abilities etc.

But yes lots of things have changed. If you like PvE, if you like progressing your char thru easily obtaineable gear etc game has surely improved alot.

And as with any game, getting into an active guild with kingkills etc will most likely improve your gaming experience by loads.

1.5 year old game that has not really changed much.  It is like watching vanguard: saga of heroes all over again.

Honestly I saw most of what the game offered at release and since then 1 new zone has been added while the developers seem to think the solution to gameplay is putting tokens everywhere and removing elements of gameplay they cannot fix.

Maybe the game will be worth another look when Mythic starts talking about an expansion, because that will send a signal that Mythic has confidence in their base game.  Until then I see a company that is still working to resolve launch day issues over a year and a half after later and it looks like it will easily got to the second anniversary without change.

It is good to hear they are making some progress though.

same here im playing eq2 !had issue because i didnt know lol like large adress aware eq2 has it i just had to activate it in my computer ,gamma, contrast, brightness has to be left at default why?because at default it use your computer setting so if your computrer was never adjusted then its not soe fault(wich was my case i had never set those on my computer lol

so after some fiddling the gaME IS A LOT BETTER THEN I THOT .dont get me wrong there are probably lot more things soe doe differently that i dont know about yet but so far every issue i come up with they always have a solution!

i tried war its a good game but for now i love eq2 the lore the pvp .its not better or worst its a nice change of view!

Lol, you fools are all wrong!

Everyone who visits this site knows there's no way anyone could actually enjoy playing an MMO and the only reason they'd say a game way any good is if they were paid to say it.

Yes, that's right, you obviously either work for Mythic or were paid by them to say all this!

You're obviously all noobs. Try to criticise me and I'll just list piles of irrelevant info that may or may not prove I'm right.

    /sarcasm off

I had to get that outta the way before some other idiot said it.

Seriously, I'm glad you're enjoying WAR. I enjoyed it a lot when it first came out but stopped playing for a reason I can't quite remember, lol!

Quite keen to try it again now though. After many a re-sub I've finally put my finger on why I can't get into AoC and I'm now looking for something else to provide my fantasy fix.

Might give it a whirl tonight. My main concern is population, which was already dwindling when I originally left.

I have no doubt lots of ppl here enjoy WAR. That said, having different ppl give different views on things cant be a bad thing can it? I didnt see anyone bashing OP.

I agree totally with your opinion that different views aren't a bad thing, but the 'I hate everything' opinion of spoilt children that overwhelms these forums is surely worthy of mockery?

And you're right, no one did bash the OP. In anticipation, I decided to steal their thunder and... oh, I can't be bothered, I was only having a laugh! Lighten-up or you'll start to look like your avatar :)

Im downloading the game right now(which takes a shitload of time ...), what did it for me where the scenario changes. I hated it when you got into another tier and suddenly were unable to play the scenarios you got used to and like. Since my personal faviorite was nordenwatch, and that is now available in all tiers ... heh yeah.

Also im looking forward to the new RvR weapons, that second ramp to keeps, and the encouragement of actually attacking defended keeps(the stuff that previously got dropped by forts in t4 now gets dropped by well defended keeps).

Mythic kinda adressed my worst complaints with the game:

    a) Crappy scenarious out, keeping good scenarios for all tiers, also better pop balance in scenarios since you cant queue hop anymore as easily.

    b) RvR itemization.

    c) Lag.

    d) Enouraging to not only defend keeps, but to actually attack defended keeps.

    e) Class balance, still not there but better.

    f) Population, i had the misfortune to first get stuck on a low/low server(unpopular RP server) and then rerolling on a server which later became heavily imbalanced in population. Now with the servermergers hopefully this wont repeat itself.

And yeah, i also tried out alot of mmorpgs since i quit warhammer about 2 months after launch, and well, they just dont cut it. Some simply dont have fun pvp or dont have any classes i like. If you think about it the mix of Scenarios, PQs, Quests, RvR, keep fights, LotD and the (improved) city sieges is rather unique and offers pretty much diversity. Also the game has several classes i like conceptually(some of them sadly considered subpar still, r.i.p. magus) and twinking is enjoyable, so lets see how this goes.
