I've played some of Bigpoint's games, and they're pretty good actually. If a browser based game is where they are going, and if it's anything like Dark Orbit, then I will put some time into it before writing it off. I wish it was based on old school Battle Star, I've never seen the newer one so I won't be to familiar with the game.

This is amusing, going to release in the fall?  You can guess how bad a MMO is if it does.  Sorry if I laugh now at any fool who purchases this game if it ever launches.

One of the worst remakes in television history is getting an mmo? There are fun browser games on facebook i play but this doesnt rate imo. Edward James Almos was the only good thing going for that show.

(BBBBBBWWWWWAAAAHHHHHH fires poop stained plungers at producers of the remake of Battlestar Galactica!)

All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.
Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes

What do you expect?  In the largest marketing blunder since New Coke, the geniuses at the SciFi channel changed its name to Syfy (sounds like sissy).  They also decided that pro wrestling was good science fiction.  This same crew wants to bring a BattleStar Galactica game to your browser.  I can see it now..."Click here to fondle Starbuck".  That's about the level of gameplay I expect from these people.

I have watched and loved both versions of BSG.  More so the original than the remake but I understand the need to re-visit stories.  That said, I never saw a MMO made of the remake being very good.  There was little beyond the war between the Cylons and humans.  Very little exploration to be honest and more with human condition than extraterrestial encounters.  In this understanding, I feel the original would have had more MMO potential.

As it stands, it looks very much like a quick grab before the public forget about the series.  "Caprica" probably allows for this decision as its a related property that keeps the franchise in the public eye.  Low balling the game allows for the producers to do this with little investment but gain all the reward.  Just too bad it will not be a AAA game.

Another great IP bites the dust.

    Hugely disappointed by this news.

Release in August or September 2010 probably translates to re-skin of Bigpoint's existing Dark Orbit property, with possibly some slight adjustments.  Shrewd move, I guess.

Dark Orbit's reasonably successful, and the BSG IP will bring them a ton of potential users.

Still, darn.  A full-blown MMO for this IP might have been nice... though full MMO's based on existing IP's don't always turn out so well: witness what happened to Cheyenne Mtn with Stargate:Worlds.  Or, well, Cryptic and STO.  But at least Cryptic released product.

Did you watch the original BSG? I did. Did you watch the remake? I did (I even watched Galactica 1980 *shudder*.)

I loved the original when I first saw it, it was delightful to watch and I had a great time watching it. But the remake is so far beyond the original in every conceivable way that I'm really not sure how anyone who saw both shows could call it "the worst remake in television history" unless they can't see past the nostalgia they feel for the original show.

In other words the remake is an absolute modern masterpiece, the original was incredibly campy, and somewhat silly, yet fun.

Hey now, I watched BSG as it actually came out as a young boy, and let me tell you, the ladies of BSG were da bomb!!!

I knew they were da bomb, before I knew what do with da bomb! That's how bomb they were!

And the series was fun too, I just watched the entire series again on Hulu recently, and yeah I stand by that, the series was definitely a good story, acting... developed in the 1970s, y'know..disco....almost 40 years ago, take it easy with the hatin'. It's like when Starbuck was on the A-Team, we still called him Starbuck, that's serious loyalty there!! step off!

    but I digress, a BSG MMO....EPIC!

f2p...umm, ok I'm in, but careful with the cash shop NBC Universal (the same company that owns WoW, yeah I said it)

    Browser based???......"Son, I am disappoint."

Hopefully NBC sees the excitement around a BSG universe based MMO and pours some real dev dollars into making it worth playing (and nixes the browser based idea).
