New info, hell yes!
Apparently this week's Famitsu will contain lots of information about the game, but we don't know what exactly before the magazine comes out tomorrow. Here are some tidbits however:
When fighting, you have to think of distance and position. Also, moving parties will be the norm compared to the non-moving pull back to camp style of FFXI.
MP will not auto-refresh. You will have to be careful with how you manage MP. There will be ways to gain MP.
There will be 6 elements. Some people are saying that Light and Dark will not be present.
Puglists have steal.
You can throw javelins at enemies that are not in a battle state to do a sort of sneak attack.
Marauder's have low accuracy. They also have a meditate-like ability to store... something. Probably TP.
Horticulturalist are the only ones that can see digging spots meant for them. They can dig up stuff during battle that can be used to back up the party. The more of these people you have, the more items you can get it sounds like.
When a blacksmith repairs your weapon, you don't have to hand it over!!!
The alpha build requires a computer with high specs. Some are saying its due to a lack of config options. The final product will require lower specs.
VRAM512MB is enough.
Not all parts of character making will be present in the beta. In particular, you cannot do facial customization.
There is a mode where you can walk around to regain HP.
There are spells you can cast while moving.
There are many ways to earn TP. You can earn TP from spellcasting as well.
General parties are 6 to 8 people. Alliances are also possible.
There are alpha build screenshots. People say there are small things that are different from the German alpha build we saw at Gamescom.
Gladiators and Puglists have a way to gain hate.
Gladiators have a version of Phalanx different from FF11. Their version is where you can guard with a shield while still attacking.
Puglists have a provoke ability called Whistle.
The Thaumaturge will be able to suck MP from enemies that have no HP. i.e. after you defeat a monster, it'll stick around for you to drain MP from.
The Puglist job is for people who don't want to worry about small details.
The Marauder job is for people who like finishing off enemies (...not sure since we don't have the real text yet but thats what it sounds like)
The Archer job is for people who like to fight solo or work on their own
There are times where your defense (defensive moves perhaps?) kicks in automatically and other times where you have to activate it yourself
There is some kind of relief measure for Archers when they run out of arrows. (No idea what that specifically means right now.)
Archers have an ability to make enemies run away.
Archers will use bows, not crossbows. A crossbow might be used by a different class in the future (unsure about it at this time)
Arrow types are not by material as in FFXI. Instead, they will be sorted by number (number of arrows? number of enemies? i don't know), the type of enemy, and topography.
Famitsu will have 10 pages. Dengeki will have 8 pages. alpha build screenshots are included as are interviews.
The word for enmity will change in Japanese. No idea how it will change in English.
Comments
The fact that they are saying facial modification will not make it into beta tells me that they have a solid plan for now to release. Companies dont usually drop parts from the beta until they know for sure the release date and know what they have time for and what they dont.
I really wouldn't be surprised if they are only inserting things into beta that they want tested instead of putting everything they have in it. disadvantage to this would be bugs showing up in content that wasn't tested in beta.
At this stage in the beta it makes perfect sense to only test the components of the game that are in need of testing, or that SE thinks they will need more time to fine-tune. Maybe the facial customization stuff they feel is already solid and will not need to be added until the final beta phase where they toss it all together to make sure it works.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

This just makes me want to play!!!

Mmmm. So crisp, so clean. Same here, I really want to get my hands on this beautiful game. That screen just makes the wait even that much more harder!
I wanted to point out in the screen shot it appears the TP bar is VERY HUGE!!
72 is seen at the end of the bar when it is only a TINY FRACTION full, perhaps TP is measured by the thousands?
Up to 6 bubbles of TP too!
This looks interesting and exciting!
Notice how the player appears to have a first and last name?
Why are they removing traditional job classes? Where's the Red Mage? Warrior? Paladin? The new names just turn me off. I'm a little skeptical about that.

Red mage has only been in what, FF1, Tactics, and 11. Thats three games, they have 10 other games without Red Mage, why does this make people upset?
Warrior again was only in Tactics, 11, and the first FF game.
These are not iconic of the Final Fantasy world.
The reason they dropped the classes is because they wanted to make a different feeling game with out the classes roles being pre defined by people who THINK They know what the classes do.
If they made Red Mage again, how many people would make them heal or support even if Red Mage in this game was a Damage Dealer?
They wanted to try something new, and frankly I'm glad!
It looks to me like they have the right idea, I have a 75 Rdm, a 75 Thf, a 61 Warrior.
I don't really want to level those classes over again, I want to level Thermatauge and Pugilist and Gladiator!

Man, you're crazy. Red Mage was in the first ever Final Fantasy. Are you serious? Here's a list, just because you've angered me so and are too lazy to do your own research.
Red Mages have appeared in Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2, and Hataraku Chocobo.
That's quite a different list than what you put up there. I mean, jeez.. if you're going to rebuke an argument at least do some research first.

Sir, I've played every FF Game you listed, 3 had no Red mages, I said the First FF.
If you are going to personally attack someone, read their post first.
Edit: Also, Since when did Enix EVER have red mages in their games? Never.
SQUARE Had most of those games made, Square ENIX did not.
Your listing off every Tactics game as if its different, they all have the same play style, granted they are different games, There are more games that Red mages ARE NOT in than they ARE in.
Want me to list the ones they are not in?
2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, Mystic Quest. X-2.
Thats just the ones that carry the Final Fantasy name.
Edit2: Ah you ment Japanese 3, not American 3. Never picked up a copy of those.
I do know that Final Fantasy 2 Japanese did not have Red mages as well, as I picked up the Origins game a while back.
A rose by any other name, would it not smell as sweet?

You edited your post, but III is not to be confused with VI. Final Fantasy III is actually Final Fantasy VI. Please. You need to end this "War" now.
And red mages are in FF 9, as NPCs. Not playable characters.
I highly suggest we end this feud because I for one don't want to get a warning for trolling. I suggest you do the same.

So your trying to troll me?
I'm merely trying to explain my view point, which is...
"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."
I think everyone getting upset because the jobs names are different is just being silly!
I am upset with the job names. I don't think they are true to the FF name. Does that mean I will not play the game? No. Just because I'm unhappy with the job names does not mean the game is trash. I'm merely expressing my displeasure. I find your attitude as a result of my displeasure to be insulting, which is why I came off as arrogant.
And you didn't add the "What's in a name" bologna until after I posted, so I missed it.
And no, I'm not trolling you. And this is turning into a useless "He said, she said." Like I said. Let's get back on topic.
If you want to continue this discussion, please do so in PMs. Not here on the forums.

Because the class system does not work in a way that using traditional names would be viable. From the info we've been shown, classes like Thaumaturge are something like a mix of RDM and DRK, while Conjurer is more of a BLM + WHM hybrid. How can you call something a White mage when it can use different spell types and not just white magic? This is the reason why the game has new class names, it's not a meaningless change.
In the same way, Pugilist has abilities like Flee and Steal, making it more like a THF + MNK hybrid, and has offensive and defensive role to choose from, unlike Monk which is seen as mostly damage dealing class.
If you can't accept anything new, then I feel sorry for you.. but that's how the franchise works- and I'd rather be glad about it than upset.

Why does everyone assume that because I'm uncomfortable with the new classes, that I'm some how incapable of accepting them? Honestly, people. Please read this
I Am Not Above Learning New Classes
If someone would have explained to me what you just did earlier, I would be better off. Instead, everyone feels the need to attack me because I'm ignorant. Forgive me if I don't have all the insider knowledge out there on the game. There's not a lot of info pouring in and what info I do have isn't enough for me to draw any type of conclusions on. Hence the skepticism.
Look, I'm not trying to troll, or destroy your game. I had a legitimate concern and now I'm being put on a stand and pelted with rocks.

Hm, I wouldn't say I "attacked" you because you're ignorant, but for whole other reason... however, it's meaningless. Hopefully you'll be able to like the new system, even though it's not the same as it's been for 20+ years now.
"everyone feels the need to attack me because I'm ignorant"
you said it yourself, you were ignorant and started to complain before you knew the facts....people are going to rip on you because of it.
And yes, this is extremely annoying, I'm afraid.
Also, hopefully mmorpg.com posts an article about all the info we've been given so far, there's just so much of it..
and it sounds pretty awesome.
This was completely off topic.
the classes have always been a little off, minus the old ff games whee they did stay relatively the same, and with the new names come the same classes but more or less combining different aspects of them as people have said. It seems they are putting in a sub job system, but a set one that can't be changed and just a little more to it.
Something completely different though, I think it would be interesting to see what would happen if they made the class changes like that of FF7 and 8 where you just built your character from the ground up any way you wanted.
DO WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, new classes FTW. I know tried and true feels safe and like home, but new brings teh win if done correctly, and from the tidbits rolling around about the classes, FFXIV has become my new #1 most wanted MMO.
That wouldn't be good.. either you could become a master of everything, or you could only follow one set path and not be able to level other classes/roles. Neither of those options sound appealing.
Also,
According to finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Red_Mage
Red Mages were in:
Final Fantasy
First appearing as one of the basic six Job classes, Red Mages can upgrade into the Red Wizard, which is distinctly versatile in both magic and weapons. Unlike most other Red Mages in the series, those in the original Final Fantasy can cast the third-tier level of elemental spells such as Firaga.
The 8-Bit Theater character Red Mage Statscowski is based off of this Job.
Final Fantasy II
Few characters in Final Fantasy II are assigned a specific Job. However, Scott wears red armor and a cloak and has basic magic and physical abilities, approximating the standard abilities and appearance of Red Mages.
Final Fantasy III
Main article: Red Mage (Final Fantasy III)
The Red Mage Job class is obtainable after the Wind Crystal is cleansed. In the opening FMV of the DS version, Ingus is seen clothed in Red Mage garb.
Final Fantasy V
Main article: Red Mage (Final Fantasy V)
This is the first appearance of Dualcast in the series, and is exclusive to the Red Mage. The Job is available after the Water Crystal in Walse Tower splinters.
Final Fantasy VI
Terra Branford and Celes Chere are Magitek Knights, a term used to refer to the Empire's elite soldiers that are infused with magic. Both Terra and Celes wear armor and cloaks, are proficient with swords and magic and have all-around good stats, roughly fulfilling the abilities of Red Mages.
Final Fantasy IX
While they do not appear as a playable class, Red Mages of both sexes, clad in their classic caps and robes, can be found as NPCs in Lindblum.
Final Fantasy XI
Main article: Red Mage (Final Fantasy XI)
While Final Fantasy XI Red Mages once again have access to White and Black Magic, they are also proficient at buffing and debuffing spells, including the useful Refresh spell. Due to the MMORPG nature of the game, Red Mages are popular for being one of the best Jobs to "solo" enemies.
Rainemard was an Elvaan Red Mage who was murdered before the game starts. Players can undertake a series of quests to investigate his murder mystery. In the expansion Wings of the Goddess, Rainemard is alive and can be recruited as a freelancer to help players in Campaign battles.
Final Fantasy XII
Main article: Red Mage (Final Fantasy XII)
Represented by the Zodiac sign of Cancer, Red Mages are notable for being the only class to use Arcane Magick. They can wield Maces and Greatswords.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Main article: Red Mage (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance)
Only Viera can access the Red Mage Job, and their spells are considerably weaker compared to past incarnations. However, they still retain the Doublecast ability. The weapon of choice for Red Mages is the Rapier.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
Main article: Red Mage (Final Fantasy Tactics A2)
Red Mages in Tactics A2 follow the same form as Tactics Advance. They are useful for evading problematic Laws with Doublecast.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord
Red Mages are enemies that invade Mira's tower in order to destroy the crystal in the top floor.
Dissidia Final Fantasy
In the Duel Colosseum, when selected, the Red Mage Job card will cause the cards at the selection area not to be discarded while not chosen. In the North American, European and Universal Tuning versions of the game, it also makes Treasure Cards cost 0 medals. This is great for those who want to obtain a lot of treasure with minimal expense, especially with the Thief Job Card active as well.
That looks unbelievably good for an alpha build.
