which is beter 3.2 pentium D dual or ?

mudstuckmudstuck Member Posts: 203

Ive got a chance to trade my machine for another. I can change out the MB Power supply, etc, if I want.

My machine has an intel D945GCL mobo, with a E 5300 2.6 wolfdale. The machine I can trade for has a

gigabyte 945GCMX-S2 with an intel pentium D 3.2 dual core. The other parts I have recently put on my machine, I would swap over to that one and visa versa.

What I think is that the other machine has a beter processor and motherboard, as the gigabyte may be capable of over clocking. And the intel is not.

I would only use the over clock to try and over clock the E 5300 up to 3.0. But since the other machine ha a 3.2 proc, should I leave that as it is?

Alot of things I dont know for sure, like when I go to windows 7, I can use 64 bit On this machine, I think. Not so sure on the other.

I need some advice here, about how to find out for sure, which Proc I should go with in this swap, and will my graphics card work on the other mobo, The card is a 5750 ATI.

Looking at the spec sheets, my undestanding is that the machine with the gigabyte board will accept my GPU and that the proc on it is beter than mine, and that the mobo on it is beter than mine simply because its a gigabyte version of my intel board.

As I am trying to teach myself how to build,PC's, and understand what I am building, Can you guys check my thinking on this.

Other factors in this are, that this other machine I can trade for has a True Mid, Coolmaster case, 120 mm fan, and much more room for cable management than my current, Micro atx Case, with 60 mm fans.

Thank you for your time.               Mud

The E5300 is a better processor.  The Pentium D is less effecient per clock cycle so it isn't as good.

activate direct cache access if your mobo, network card and proc support it

dca will make more diff the the speed of proc

yes i know dca is hard to know if its supported asince at start intel didnt deem it necessarry to mention this as it was goaled for server

but dca can make a huge diff i got it in the os but since i got and amd its not supported yet

basicly it can bypass memory to use the cache on the processor directly (wich is way faster )

Ok staying with what I got. Also looked again at the gygabite specs, and sadly, it only supports 2 gigs of ram, so that ends that idea.

As for the DCA, how do I enable it? Currently using Vista 32 bit.
