too easy to make night elf rogue jokes here, move along.
Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed. Current mmo's grouping: tinder. swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.
I'm pretty sure the main reason people jump is to do something active while they're waiting to do something active, such as a person who doesn't need to rest jumping while impatiently waiting for the others to regain their mana. So it's an action done out of impatience and boredom.
I personally don't jump in a game unless there's an obstacle in the way. That's because I carry over so much of my real life personality into my character's personality. I don't run around or jump all over the place in real life, so the thought never occurs to me to jump around all over the place in a game. I really hope that future games will attach a price to jumping, such as jumping using up endurance, causing a strength penalty, or something else. I just can't stand people who just jump all over the place all the time, especially in PvP. I'd rather not PvP than play with someone who does that.
Easy, this game caters to the jumpers! They've had it ever since release!
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
It's an additional therapy for a feeling of freedom... I guess :P
I don't find myself jumping in fights like a retard (except in FPS or games there's no hotkey to auto-target, but if there's no stamina, another penalty like reduced movement/agility as you hit the ground, or simply realistic humanly limited jumping heights especially when you're carrying a backpack, guns, grenades, armor, helmet, whatever, then this is a HUGE design flaw that will turn your game in a jump fest), but I find myself jumping to test the freedom. Like a few crates or barrels near a house, I might jump to see if I can reach the rooftops.
Same for mountains to see if I can reach the top, and any other thing I may think that jumping will lead me to a view or place that could not be reached without jumping. It's my exploration spirit manifestation, to boldly reach where no one has gone before... at least one that hasn't tried jumping to reach there.
Heck, I even did /jump on Guild Wars though it didn't have any function besides being an emote, to see if my head would hit a ceiling, in a height comparison to a creature or NPC or things like that. I don't remember if the first-person view camera would also move with the jump... if it did I could understand more easily why I would want to /jump in a lot of other occasions.
When I played a shaman healer who had huge + healing I would jump a lot. In instance runs my earth shield would do all of the work and I would have nothing to do for most of the run. Sometimes I would hit the mob, doing little to no damage, and jump. Sometimes I would just stand there.
Either way though jumping was better than watching my character scratch his butt, which he would if I did nothing for to long.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
zomg you guys now have epic jumps too easily. Back in MC days we used to raid for hours without jumping... i hate what wow has did to this jumping ingame. i quit.
Could someone explain to me why people have to jump around ALL the time. I went back to WOW to do the random dungeons. A lot of the time I have noticed that one of the team members will just jump constantly. Even when fighting a mob they just keep jumping. I just don't get it. (Awaits all the flames from those that just jump)
For the same reason people quickly tap the floor with their foot, tap a desk, chew on a pen. It's a compulsion.
My main was a rogue and I had this habit of jumping every time I was about to go stealth. I'm not really sure why I did it, but I did it every damn time.

You know what?
I ve been playing games since UO and played lots of it.
Yet WoW is the only MMO where I was jumping all the time.
Now I play Darkfall, which requires you to jump to rise your skill, but I can barely force myself to do it.
I think scientist needs to investigate (maybe there is some kind of subliminal message in WoW which tells you to play it.................and also jump a lot?)
dude ill tell you why all the pros jump (including myself) its pretty obvious really. When you jump and attack, you hit them in the head. Headshots do more damage, obviously.
