Some questions regarding Ryzom...

devout101devout101 Member Posts: 67

I tried this game out about a year ago, and was impressed overall with the game. I didn't have the time to keep playing, with work and school on my plate at the time. Now, I'm playing Darkfall, and the game is fun, but pvp is forced, and while I like pvp, sometimes I just don't feel like pvp ya know? The other thing that DF lacks is meaningful stories or any emphasis on the lore. I want to roleplay, and live in a world that feels ALIVE.

I hear good things about ryzom, and I want to come back, I just have a few questions.

1) Is player crafted housing in the company's plans?

2) What is the pvp like?

3) What is the world like?

Will be updated later.

I'd be curious to hear this information as well:-) I'm wondering how open the world is for exploration.

The answers will be simple and shorts:

    1. No actual plan as we know about this. The team is small so i don't think this can be eventually added in short time.

    2. There is all kind of PvP in Ryzom, and it's almost always consensual:

    a. duels between 2 players

    b. FFA Arena

    c. Outposts battles. GvG turned out as FvF by the community. At outposts (owned by guilds), everyone can participate if they want, choosing to help defend or attack. The area around the Outpost became PvP enabled for some time before, during and after the battle (the battle itself is max 2 hours long), but you still can stay close and neutral, just watching the show. A player participating in an Outpost battle is considered "flagged"

    d. Some GvG underground regions. You are not forced to pass or spend any time there if you don't want, tho there are there some good resource spots, but you can still go elsewhere. The regions are all in the Prime Roots part called Lands of Umbra. There are other Prime Roots regions without  pvp

    e. Tagged FvF. You are free to tag yourself, if you belong to one of the factions ingame, for a PvP between tagged players everywhere. If you stay neutral you will not be able to tag for FvF (of course) You can switch tag on or off at any time,. but there is a timer before the change became effective

Because the healing in ryzom is freely executed, some special rules apply between tagged and/or flagged and non-tagged/flagged players.

    3. The world is pretty HUGE and is available since the beginning with no restrictions of any sort, with the exception of the above-mentioned Lands of Umbra, in a very dangerous underground place called Prime Roots. Anyway, teorically, even a player with all skills at 1 could travel everywhere. Tho, because of the incredible living ecosystem of Atys, this trip is something very very dangerous and difficult to accomplish in solo, at lower levels.

A good measure about how big is the world is to try the game and check the tutorial island (the starting island called Silan): the starting island is an average of one region in mainland (the actual world), and there are 40 regions out there, divided in 4 continents and the undergound (the Prime Roots).

And, generally, Ryzom is not an easy game. The entire world is a challenge for every homin that try to survive the wilderness.

Finally, about roleplaying, there is an active Animation team in Ryzom and if you want to rp, you sure will find a good place to do. RP is not forced but non-RP players generally have a good respect for those that wanna do, and the ingame rp forum encourage it pretty well.

As usual for me, i started short and ended long. Sorry
