Miscellanious ramblings

My favorite mobs are the clearwater trout that can attack on land.

I love the red dot on the map showing where I am.   An arrow pointing in the direction that I am going would probably have strained the graphic engine too much.

I pre-ordered my game from Sony... I still haven't gotten that copy yet.   Was shipped thursday.  I went ahead and bought one at the store in town the day it came out.   Pre-ordering was A BIG mistake.   I'll just return the one I get in the mail unopen w/ my reciept, but its still annoying to think that I pre-ordered a game only to get it over a week after its release.

The game is beautiful.  I am very impressed with the graphics.   I think I have just come to the conclusion that I am bored with the Genre.

I can't believe I am killing rats again.

Time for a new hobby.

I have seen the Arctic Circle... And it is round.

Hey, at least the rats look real! image I think the best is to see a shark swimming ON, not just near, the beach.

I believe this is forgiveable considering the good state in which the rest of the game is.

Sorry to hear about your pre-order, that's ugly.

EQ2 is fun, it is a little of the same old stuff, but it is a pretty good game.

They might improve the game in the long run.  If I could actually log into the EQ2 official forums, I would of posted my suggestions on what I would like changed in the GUI for EQ2.

I mean Star Wars Galaxies had the freaking BEST GUI I've ever seen in any MMORPG... it was so easy to use, had so many hotkeys, totally configurable... so why the hell didn't SOE do the same thing in EQ2?

Anyways, in short from my email to SOE, I just compared EQ2 to SWG's gui and what I would like changed.

Yeah a red arrow or triangle would of been better. What I can't believe is how the hell could Beta-testers allow such stupid things to remain in the retail game?  See this is why I hate the fact that companies do not allow everyone to become beta-testers and kick out whoever doesn't actually help and are only there to play.

I had 1 week to beta-test EQ2, but only managed to play for a total of 6 hours in 2 days.  In that much time, I coudln't help much since I was mainly stuck on the Island of Refuge.

Anyways, SOE just emailed me back an automated email response saying they appreciate receiving feedback from the community... f##k them... I swear if they don't read my email and change such stupid things (Like the red dot on the map instead of an arrow) then more people like you will just quit EQ2.

you know you can go to http://www.eq2interface.com and either create your own ui or use a premade one. the ui is customizable.

I'm gonna tell you why beta testers allowed stupid things to remain in the final game. Sony did not gave them time to do so. Sony did not do a proper beta test on EQ2, much like Lucas Arts did not with SWG.

I started beta testing on october 6. 2 weeks laters they were saying it was ready for retail. Yet, the game was still feeling empty, not much fun. I'm in the open WoW beta, and I could tell within minutes why this one was ready for launch. There is content, gameflow, balance, nice and useful tradeskill. Makes for a much more fun experience, IMHO.

I'm gonna give EQ2 a year, and leave my pre-order at EB. Maybe next year they will have added nice content, cool tradeskill and some neat features.

Is that why everyone is complaining about server lag on WoW atm? WoW was fine before the last patch its now a right mess if you ask me. I had to stand for 3 mins waiting for NPCs to appear last night lol and then press attack 3 mins later oh look im attacking.

What?  You can move any window anywhere you want, change transparancy settings, open multiple chat windows, configure exactly what chat you want/don't want to see, configure multiple hotbars, open mutliple hotbars, setup macros, not to mention you can set just about any command to any key you want.  Its a great interface and totally configurable.  What game are you playing?

An arrow of some sort would have been nice, but I'm not going to complain, I got a nice compass which helps me figure out which way I'm going...with or without the map open.  Actually not many companies let people become beta-testers.  There have only been a handful of MMORPGs that HAVE done an open beta.

Anyways, SOE just emailed me back an automated email response saying they appreciate receiving feedback from the community... f##k them... Please, by all means, quit.  If you don't like the game, leave.  Why people continue to play games they hate so much is just beyond me.  Quit if you don't like it, make a statement to the people who will listen....the bean counters.  Quit, don't give SOE your hard earned $15 a month for a game which you think is so bad.

Well, yes, this lag is anoying. It's not the same kind of lag we are used to in EQ or EQ2, where the amount of RAM you have impacts pretty much how many players and objects you can have around you. It's the message queuing to the Item databases that gets overflowed.

From what they say, it is done on a purpose. They try to push the system over it's limit to see what can be done to further optimize the messages processings.

I must say it is not enjoyable to have this lag, but keep in mind that it is the final beta, so we are testing some features here, and it is the server loads. 500 000 ppl did sign up, that's a lot of ppl to accomodate. Servers are very loaded. But I feel I'm doing this for a purpose. Yesterday evening, for exemple, I have only experienced one lag peek in 2 hours. I have the feeling that comes retail, it will go smoothly, with just the right numbers of servers to not experience any lag.

In EQ2 beta, I never had the time to accomplish some real testing. At first I played on French beta server, only to find out they were so late on the translation process that it was really not enjoyable. I then got the US client and find out it was much better, but still lacking in game flow, solo content, etc. Then the week after, I hear they go retail, and all I could think was: they want to beat WoW to retail. Just that plain and simple. Or worst, they think they will have enough customers anyway, with a game at this state of development, and they figured out that it was worth it.

I mean, they even made a quick poll ingame, during my first week of beta, asking 1 simple question: are you having fun with the game actually? give it 1 to 5. That's it, no other question. Does that mean a marketing guy then went to the Executive board and boasted: "See, 80% of our testers quote their fun factor as a 5 on 5!" and from this point on, the decision was made to go Gold with EQ2?

Anyway, I'm still an EQ fan, but I'm disapointed, and I sure will play WoW while waiting for EQ2 to get into a more acceptable state. Somewhere in 2005 I guess. If WoW wasn't so good, I would be truely pissed because I would have no more good new MMORPG to try out.
