I have been following this game, and while I was not caught in the frustration of pre-ordering and realizing that it was an alpha full of partially implemented content, I have played the open beta some within the past few days, and I just get a general feeling that this game will become much better with time. They have good ideas, good direction, and a good base (meaning the game engine and the world as it is)
The biggest problems I see right now is that there are not enough mobs in the world to kill, and the game still feels relatively buggy (invisible creatures attacking me). I foresee these things getting fixed with time, though.
I have played Darkfall and would like to say that while Darkfall is a good PVP MMO, the gap between vets and noobs is very large. I also would like to do more things in my MMO -other- than just PVP all the time. For instance, building a house, out in some secret area that I found on my own.. MO doesn't seem far off. (Reminding me of the housing freedom SWG has)
Of course, the grind in MO is relatively low right now. I don't know if they'll change that... but I like it that way. I feel like while your character progression is an important aspect of an MMO, I don't like feeling forced to progress a character to simply play the parts of the game that I want to play.
I wish everyone in the MO team good luck, and I will keep participating in the beta until release!

Agree, it's nice that even as a new player you see the points here. SV has done a huge job from block A to here, and a lot of people are hopeful for the game as things are looking very nice.
You can burn me, but i wont die.
9 months just to add basic systems that should have been there at block A?
Otach, if you had been following them from the beginning, you would be thinking differently. Just coming into it and saying "its looking good so far" is not realistic. Just ask some people that have been here from the beginning. From the server being down all weekend every weekend, to them taking a 2 week vacation after releasing a game breaking patch. Just saying, you would think differently if you knew everything that has happened.
well i still log in every once in a wile and run arround for hours trying to figure out were the hell i am. Or killing flying buffalos (when i can find any). Or mosty just looking at the starts at night cause i can't see anything else. i will probably continue to do so UNTILL they ask me to pay for it.
yes they have done a lots of work, yes the game it's potentially good, yes they have lots of good ideas but this is not a game that should be sold at the moment. is this the Oblivion mmo we have all been dreaming about for ages? could probably be the closest thing we'll get for a wile.
i'v paid nothing so far and plan on keeping it that way until maybe in a year or two it will be a good, finished game. then i'll pay to play.

[Mod Edit]
this is where paying to play beta is fail. you get people in like this guy who are actually PLAYING the game like they think its release instead of testing for bugs. ive been in beta since block d and have followed the game as soon as the first trailer came out back in 08. this game is a work in progress.
they took the servers down on weekends because they were not working and it was closed beta. you would have been more pissed if it randomly went down with no responses from them til monday.
they also explained why they took their 2 week vacation and apologized for the patch not being what it should be, but it cant be a game breaking patch. why? because its fucking beta, it isnt supposed to be "played" as a release game. its for testing and ironing out problems.

shhhhhhhh. your arguments are old and boring.
I know your not serious but people have to know the history of unprofessionalism Starvault has done in the past.
oh i am very serious.

does it have bugs? yes. is it light on content? yes. do they keep adding things in every patch that make the game better? yes.

Awwww.... So just throw professionalism out the window because its closed beta, I understand now. Just ignore anything bad that happened in the closed beta... because it was a closed beta!
PS - They would not take it down for the weekend, they would say "lets see what happens" and the server would lag out and crash. Then they would show up Monday acting like nothing ever happened. True professionalism!
Been in Mortal from Block A, allots improved but on a very very slow basis, I was a follower and supporter but had to remove any efforts to improving the game (Beta Test and Report) Due to massive bugs clunky PvP and terrible lag, I tried this recent patch and noticed a very slight improvement to lag, still getting the invisable mobs attacking, the funny thing is, the games potential is midblowing, the idea is what every Elderscrolls fan always wanted, true FPS PvP, Everything fits it looks almost identical, but the combat is nowhere near as good as Elder Scrolls or Dark Messiah. I can see Starvault is of course turning it into there own unique idea of FPS PvP but as of now the game is in small words Alpha status.
At the current rate the game might, and i use the word lightly , Might be ok to play after a year or so with a complete revamp of the combat system "Again" and a complete polish of the ground graphics, too many chunky squared off rocks, ground textures are terrible, often i see gaps in the ground leading to oblivion, everywhere.
I do hope the game gets better but funding an empty server for one year to fix all the issues has never happened in the history of MMO's, good luck Starvault, I really hope you can make it happen.
Please refrain from personal attacks and stay on topic. First and only warning.
What I posted was not an attack towards the guy, I thought he was joking in a sarcastic way...
Anyway... Starvault has had very bad history of doing unprofessional things and I think the OP needs to know that.
But let's be truthful here! They took their vacation at the end of December and beginning of January. At the SAME TIME they announced that the game release was pushed back to the end of January (1 month delay from Q4). Its now the end of March.. did they REALLY think that when they came back from vacation they would be able to release the game in 3 weeks when its now 3 MONTHS later and the game isn't out?
That is the kind of poor communication and lack of professionalism that drive me nuts. From the very beginning when the pre-orders started in mid-July the game has always "almost" been release ready. Always just another month... or a few weeks... Anyone that logged into sausage lake in July instantly knew the game was generations from release and that it would have to be delayed. Is the game better now than it was in July? Sure it is... in July all I could do was log into a lake surrounded by naked people and redownload the whole game every few days. That's kind of like saying that I'm making progress losing weight because I'm down to 390 instead of 400lbs...
You set the bar low enough, sure you can get over it... but it's meaningless.

The problem isn't lack of communication, it is the fact that they have not set proper milestones and do not have a QA plan.
Unless you do these things there is no way to estimate when you will be ready. It is clear that their dates so far have been complete wild ass guesses.
It is BOTH. At some point you have to realize that your estimate is wrong. For instance. We are now in mid March. They know if they are releasing in 2 weeks or not. If they ARE releasing then fine. If they are delaying it, why not just update to say Q2 release? I honestly think they are going to launch at the end of the month, but if they aren't they should be honest and come out and say so instead of waiting for April 1st (ironic isn't it) to announce they didn't release in Q1...

An inexperienced program manager will communicate often, and communicate bad dates often.
An experienced program manager will communicate only when he has confidence in his dates. Even when he has confidence in the dates there is still a large margin of error.
If you don't manage your project properly (real milestones) you are just guessing at dates. Communicating dates that are complete WAGs does no one any good.
Personally not bothered when they release so long as it works and is fun. Currently the sync issues prevent pvp frrm being reliable and viable, this makes much of the game immaterial. I understand they are testing other aspects of the game and it's beta, I appreciate that but they should adress the network issues first imo as it makes testing anything a huge chore.

It does help sell pre-orders. You think the pre-orders would have been the same with a release listed as: "To be announced"?
I win!!! LOL@U
You don't have to know the dates in order to advise a delay. Even a simple update to the order page saying that the game has been delayed and will not be released in Q1 would be better than silence. Right now it's unethical IF they know the game is not going to release in Q1 to still have that date publicized so prospecive customers think it's coming out...
Again.. I'm gonna believe that they are releasing on March 31st/April 1st until they state otherwise.

There is no disagreement here. My point is that they none of their dates have been even remotely close.
It reminds me of a team I worked with that was unable to ship a product for more than 5 years (a normal development cycle would be ~18 months). They would not let anyone create a spec for the product (I offered), they expected my team to validate the product and create drivers. In the end the product never worked. They did ship it to several customers anyway, but the number of lawsuits was the largest I have ever seen on a project.
Great constructive post. Thanks for sharing. Maybe check back in a few months. It only gets better.

Do you think the game will still be alive in a few months?

Do you think the game will still be alive in a few months?
Of course it will be. No reason why it won't be. Just because you get guarded by grey gazzells doesn't mean the game will fail.

1 issue out of thousands! Duping, hacking are still rampant. But just ignore that, Starvault are professionals!
Agree with you. Good to see you can see beyond some bugs. There will be a patch tomorrow that will fix several bugs. I think now when the new AI is in place and when they (SV/Epic) have fixed the desync bug, they can start adding many more mobs.
Since block A the game have improve lots with several unique stuff.
