its only uncomfortable to play if you force yourself to play like that.
eve online is extremely flexible game. you might as well ignore missions all together and just do what every eve player should do - play with others, not npcs.
Eve is a sandbox, you play the way you want to play.. as opposed to the way you 'think' you are supposed to play.
How can I illustrate it..
If your at a beach full of sand you might say... I like the beach, but whenever I build sand castles they get squashed quickly and they arnt even that fun, so I end up hating the beach.
so... you need to find other things you can do with the sand! like digging a bit hole, covering it with leafes and LOL as passers by fall into it and break their ankles.
Your problem is you do like to play with sand, but you just havnt found out why you like it yet, your just building sand castles like everone else appears to be doing. Either you need to join a group of people that know how to exploit the sand and they will tell you their secrets, .... or your gona have to just experiment with trial and error!
Either way, there is nothing wrong with eve from what your saying, its just the way your playing it and you need to find a different way.
This is such a great game, my only problem is... I don't have an actual person to walk around with.
Well, this is supposedly coming Soon [TM], but don't hold your breath.
It is my opinion that if you don't like EVE for what it currently has, adding Avatars will not be the thing that makes you want to stay long term.
But that's just me.
Im really glad they will also introduce planet harvesting in coming update. Because atm it lacks immersion from that department. EVE plays as if planetsurfaces are not inhabited or even used for whatever reason atm.
I agree, I'm much more interested in the upcoming planetary changes than I am about ambulation in stations. Now, if it leads to one day having our avatars walk and fight on the surface I'm all for that, but I don't see that happening in the near future. (next 2 yrs)

Kyleran is speaking the truth, for now at least :P, I think once there are more intricate and complex interactions at the avatar level it will be different, I am talking at the possiblity in a distant future that a person may be able to play the game without even ever have to pilot a ship.
I'm pretty sure some missions will ask you to get in your ship and travel to another station... so yeah, your ship is still going to play a part... unless they make WoW on one of the planets heheheh....
