Also - in their news section they stated that they can not "process" returns during beta because they do not have CS staff. They said that this staff would be in place after release. Why would they say they can not process them now. . because of staff and that they will have the staff later. . this suggest that the later staff would be able to process returns. . meaning they are possible.
Not responding to emails is the reason why most of the charge backs were completely instantly. They can't even respond to a bank contacting them about the dispute.
I nevered noticed how stupid of a name this game has. "Mortal Online"? It makes absolutely no sense. Why not just call it "Mortal" and maybe some sub title? Why does their need to be online tacked on at the end? Was their previous "Mortal" single player games I don't know of?
slapshot you should have asked how to buy a game from internet before buying it...
Obviously I knew how to buy a game... as... I completed a purchase...
Somewhere you missed the part about understanding what you're buying before completing the purchase. Seemed pretty clear to me that I would be stuck with whatever I ended up with. It was a risk I was willing to take to support a bold indie game developer.
Joined at the beginning of Block B. Requested refund from SV in Dec and received no response. Requested information regarding a refund process from SV in Jan and received no response. Went to my bank in Feb (I used my debit card) and received a refund within' a week.
Good to hear it, I wish some of these other guys saying "you can't get a refund because they have a refund policy!" will be more realistic. Starvault will not respond to support emails, even when they are being contacted by a bank.

Umm.. actually... that's not how it works. You are only "stuck with whatever I ended up with" if you don't understand how things work and why it is that you are able to chargeback companies that are in violation of their agreements with the card companies and/or EU law. So before you enter a discussion about understanding I suggest you do some self-education on how those things work and why SV's No Refund policy is as meaningless as if they put a blurb stating that by purchasing the game you are giving them rights to your firstborn child.

I still don't get on what grounds you self-entitled crybabies think you deserve a refund. You bought a game, you got it, you don't like it, tough. Note: I got the Limited Edition full loot bag, I'm not impressed with Mortal, however I had enough forsight to make an educated decesion about whether or not I would be willing to be out a few bucks if this game didn't end up everything I had hoped it to be. Even though it isn't a great game, I still got what I paid for.
It is detailed extensively in these forums so feel free to search. SOME of the reasons include: Being charged but not receiving a product for over 30 days, the fact that it's illegal to not offer a refund for ANY reason within 7 days in the EU, failure to respond to billing/account requests, and many others. No need to relist them all.. but feel free to use search to read up if you are really interested.

Ok, EU law, won't argue that.
When I purchased the game it was clear it would be over 30 days to delivery, part of the terms of purchase, ya know?
And what billing requests could people have? There's not even sub fees yet.

Your thread with the 13k views is the one. "MORTAL ONLINE WARNING" I think thats what its called.

Billing request probably referring to refunds.
They said they would ship out the boxes in September and then 5 - 7 months later people started receiving their boxes, that is one easy reason I can think of for someone to request a refund.

Yar! Cuz, y'know, the law or credit card regulations guaranteeing the ability to get a refund is obviously a carebear concept.
I suppose if someone breaks into your house and takes your stuff, you should have just been better prepared to repel an assault.
Real Life != Game. Your hardcore BS doesn't work where there is air. Just because a company says no refunds doesn't mean they have the power to deny them.

I ordered mid July.. Block A.. cancelled Dec/Jan.. and just got my Box on Friday... So if I hadn't gotten a refund they would have charged me 8 months before delivering a box... and we won't even get started on the fact that the box only contained a DVD that is useless..

Got the game block A, tried to get a refund from SV about 2 months ago but got no response, went to credit card company but they told me it was too late for them to be able to do anything. Capitol one that is.
Ok, EU law, won't argue that. When I purchased the game it was clear it would be over 30 days to delivery, part of the terms of purchase, ya know? And what billing requests could people have? There's not even sub fees yet.
How about: Hey you charged my card in July but it's now December and not only don't I have anything, but I haven't even heard from you. Can you give me an update? chirp chirp... Most companies would have at least sent a series of updates to their customers advising them of delays and status. SV never sent me a thing.
To this date they nver... EVER responded to multiple requests from me for an update on the game, my purchase and eventually my desire to cancel.
And it's fine that it's over 30 days... but once they charge you... they have to deliver the product in 30 days (unless it's something custom made) or you have the option of a charge back. Noone says they had to ship it in Aug/Sept... but by not doing so they default into allowing us our money back. Otherwise a company is just turning your purchase into an open-ended loan to be fulfilled whenever they want without even asking you.

Do a search for Claims and Defenses. You have upto a year to dispute your charge. Unfortunately most companies automatically file your claim as a billing dispute unless you specifically tell them its being filed under Claims and Defenses.
Mine (Chase) initially said the same thing until I mentioned the Claims and Defenses.. I sent them copies of the emails I sent to SV and had my money back plus interest a week later.

Hell no. I'm proud to support this indie sandbox project.
How long have you followed Starvault? I have been there from block A and I am glad I got a refund because I saw unprofessionalism every time they would do the simplest thing.
But I am glad you support them.
I've been following them since before they began the beta program. They've come a long way, and they have a long way to go. But then so does every MMO upon its initial release.
As I recall Starvault was quite clear when they offered you the choice to purchase the game before it was released. They said before you ever handed over your credit card info: "No Refunds." Now you guys all come in here whining like you've been robbed in some back alley somewhere.
Not that I should be surprised, this is the mmorpg.com forums after all...
Honestly though your logic assumes that people are going to honor that condition simply because SV told them they had to, the truth is there is not much in this country that you can't get a refund on limited even more I think by wether a good is "consumable" or not, and you get even further protections simply by paying with credit or debit cards.
Just because the almighty SV said people couldn't get a refund doesn't mean that it's true.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

True, thats why I only buy stuff using my credit card. If someone gives me a bad hamburger at McDonalds, I will call up my card company and file a dispute (just kidding, but you can still do that sort of thing)
was in the xsyon irc today and a moderator walked me through the steps on how to get a refund. called VISA and they said they added the credit and that the dispute should be completed in 1 - 3 weeks
I think I talked to you on there after you called, how is it doing so far? Has Starvault contacted you or closed your account yet?

Ahhh, well good luck. Glad you got your money back.

Want a refund? Your a carebear! Love it! haha
No, because I'm smart enough to not buy a game that is not complete, and is not even out of beta yet :]
Pepsi1028
PEPSI!!!!!
Get out of your box already...
We all made that mistake
But I am glad my credit card got me a refund
This poll should be redone with the options:
*Who's getting their refund
*Who's happy with their purchase
*Who wasn't foolish enough to order the game before it was finished
