I like the game and am a lifer but I think these "perks" are kinda lame. The only useful one I see is the lifer chat channel. They could have done better. Here's the list I got in an email.
STO LIFETIME PERKS
Greetings Lifetime Members!
We just wanted to thank you again for purchasing a Lifetime Subscription from us. As you already know, this entitles you to play the game without paying a monthly fee. But, that’s not where it ends. Later this month we’ll be releasing special perks for you, just to show our appreciation. Here’s some of what we’re working on, exclusive to Lifetime Subscribers:
Exclusive In-Game Chat Channel
Talk shop with other Lifetime Subscribers. Share thoughts and ideas about the game, or anything else.
Front-of-Queue Support
Waiting isn’t fun, and we don’t think you should have to do it. Any time the server is queued, you’ll go to the front of it.
In-Game Title
Visibly show off your support.
In-Game VIP Lounge
Spend time in an exclusive area inside the game. This social area is limited to Lifetime Subscribers only.
A Unique Costume Piece
Show off your lifetime status in style.
We’ll see you in-game, and thank you again!
-The Cryptic Team
Queue frontsies?!?! What queue? Maybe they expect another flood of subs after the next patch but i don't see it. Another cosmetic perk and some lounge that is simply a lifers only club? Oh a title, now I feel the love.
Whatever, as i said earlier I like the game, and I'm a lifer I just wish they would have tried a little harder at their "thank you" to us lifers.
Comments
Someone is still gonna bitch about not being able to get into the VIP lounge as a reg. Even when it proves to be barren and pointless, the idea will just drive them mad.
The only thing I find lame about it all is that the devs assume all lifers are some kind of clique, and that they are actually going to use this stuff. I am sure they are all twittering each other about the cool title as we speak...
Then again, maybe I doubt the power of trekkie fandom. Maybe there will be serious nerd conversation going down in there about whether Kirk really could beat up the lizard guy or not. Takes dedication to get a lifetime sub, and most LotRO lifers did it early, with no knowledge of the game - simply because it's Tolkien. I expect no different for anything Roddenberry.

IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
We got the same letter for Champions Online life subs.
OMG! I forgot i have really bought one... That reminds me how stupid i'm...
I wonder what the special LS item is... sombrero of shame? or what?

Hello suckers
We just wanted to drop a friendly reminder in case you forgot that you paid $250.00 for a game that you had no idea about. Thanks to you, we made booko money for our launch and this will help stem the tide of everyone jumping ship once they find out the game is lacking several features and that our people skills barely ranks above third grade level. For being so blind and reckless with your money, here's some token features exclusively for you that no one in their right mind could give a damn about.
Cheers

At this point, it's become more and more a mystery how CoX got to be the not great, but perfectly decent game that it is. It's like they're TRYING to get people to cancel their subs.
sounds like pocket d in cox chirp chirp chirp
It's really got nothing to do about what I wanted, it's more like they could have tried a little harder to prove to us lifers that we count. I like the lifer chat channel, and the queue thing would be useful if the game were more popular but there isn't anything else there that says to me "thank you for taking a chance on us", it's just more useless fluff.
Looks to me like this is the closest thing to an apology that the 'lifers' are going to get for a game that is barely worth the $50 box cost...
I don't think so. People might, however, complain that there IS little or nowhere in the game to gather socially, and that the one place they make, they make exclusive to lifers.
But the lack of social areas makes sense, as the game just doesn't have a social air or feel to it. I'm not one of those folks that starts all the "not an MMO" stuff, but very little about the game makes me want to stop at the tiny little club on Sol Station, have a seat, order a drink, and yap with the locals. Partially because it's not possible to do any of these things.
To cut some slack, Cryptic never claimed STO to have these features. They clearly don't consider them to be important. But I wonder if they understand that that's the reason their games ultimately end up with <50k subs and that most of those subs will be lifers, and the rest mostly players zerging to max level on their free month and cancelling.
It's a good thing they made Pocket D exclusive to certain players or that place would be packed!
Oh, wait...
To give a little credit, when they had GM events in Pocket D, the place was INSANELY packed. This was a few years ago, though.

This is part of the problem, you behave as if you are some kind of V.I.P rather than someone who decided to bag themselves a discounted subscription ( over 18+ months ) and some goodies. The way some of you talk it's as if you fronted up the development budget, or made tea and cakes for every coder during the project.
Anyone who bought a lifetime sub had a choice to not do so. If you bought it on a whim, without thinking seriously before clicking confirm, then it's your own fault.

but to put it in after the fact is stupid like it going to make hundreds of ppl show up just to get in
its like buying stock in a club only with the other club memebers is other stock owners and when i played cox it was after the architect edition it was next to fuckin empty
this game sounds and looks like cox with a sto skin

You got it. It's clear that they thought this game could last on combat and the Star Trek name alone. They must have forgotten the horrible sales of past Trek games.

well in a way they did pay for development cost sorta i mean its been stated this was done before the game went live so it does seem that lifers should get something for being so stupid...er i mean dedicated something that makes them feel more like they are apart of a bigger picture and not just another cog in the company wheel
but yea they all had a choice
whether they should be treated like any other player or treated with a little bit of vip should be something the company is thinking about
Come on. I didn't like the game, but this is ridiculous. You're getting free perks that were never even promised, and you're complaining? Honestly.
1) Don't forget that they cannot give you anything of real substance as then that is unfair to the other players.
2) Lifers are luckly to get anything at all, so whatever you get be grateful.
3) They could have done better? Suggestions please....................Considering point one above, it is not so easy eh?
So....when you bought that lifetime subscription, did you think to yourself "they better damn sure give me more than this later on!"?
I, like I thought most people did, bought mine to save money in the long run. Everything else that they GAVE ME was bonus. This is just more bonus that I didn't expect, require, or deserve. I think it is a nice gesture, especially after all the talk about lifers opting out of their contract and crying for their money back. The only thing I don't agree with is the queue advancement. I've never seen a queue to log in, and even still, I don't think I deserve to go to the head of the line if there was one.
Take the gesture, say thanks, and go about your merry business. Simple.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Not to mention that the main reason most bought those lifetime subs was because they would be saving money after 2 1/2 years. That alone should be enough. If the game is still around that is...

You have to wonder why this did this now. If you want to give th lts that missed the preorder bonus fine, the could have done it last month. Are they that desperate to think that someones going to pay $300 for a chat room and a costume piece with all the bad press the games getting? The "go to the front of the queue" lmao I don't think there's been a queue since feb in game.
I think you're right that there are going to be people upset over nothing but you'd think cryptic would realize they're just driving a wedge into what's left of the sto playerbase. If the lts want to go hang out in some virtual chat room that's fine with me. I can't see how exciting it would be hanging out with people you don't know. I'd rather chat with fleet members in game tnan total strangers if there were any others of my fleet left.
I personally don't feel like I am privileged or deserve more than others. All I'm simply saying is since they are going to give us lifers something as a thank you I am not impressed with what they came up with.
This has got nothing to do about or whining either, I never asked for this, I'm merely stating that I think they could have come up with something better.
i'm not a lifer, never even played the game.... but i thought, typically, the "thanks" for any game's lifers was the bonuses given when the lifetime sub was originally bought. if this was any company other than cryptic, and i was a lifer, i'd be grateful for the extra little gesture... it's icing on the cake really. however, not sure what the big deal is with a company/game that is hemoraging.
Pretty funny, just one PR blunder after another. I think there is a lot of talk around the industry in the back rooms looking at Cryptic and taking notes so that they will not make the same mistakes.
I agree the lifer perks are pretty lame but then again so is the first announced update and that I think is much worse than this.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
