What ever happend to the Bard?

I loved playing my bard in EQ and I have not really been able to find another MMO that did the bard we well as EQ.  Wish I could find a game that had a good Bard class again.

DDO Eberon Unlimited has the true Bard... in the sense that it's based on the pen & paper Dungeons and Dragons rules/character class.

I think LOTRO has a good "bard" type class.

When I think of a Bard I can't help but think of the movie The Gamers: Dorkness Rising.

Vanguards Bard was the most recent game I've seen that did the class some justice.

Bards traditionally were specialist classes which were good in crowd control and buffing, and most modern MMO's have been simplifying their classes into 3 or 4 arch types and spreading these duties amongst them.

I never did play Eq long enough to see a bard but FFXI has a good bard class IMO.. With a White Mage sub class it make for an awesome support role.  It cuts downtime quite a bit which is always nice in games.

Yep FFXI does all the classes great justice, except maybe the DRK could have used a bit more.A BRD in FFXI  is really good with Hexastrike for damage, speed buffs, sleep and aoe sleep ,buffs any attribute he needs and has a small refresher and regen ,very nice class in FFXI.IMO i loved playing every single class/job in FFXi the game was designed really nice.

LOTRO's has a class very similar to a Bard. They are called Minstrels. They are very fun to play but dont have a awesome invis/speed/levitate all in one song. However, they use music to heal or damage mobs. They are either main healer or ranged DPS.

They are the closest Ive seen to a Bard in a while.

I remember playing a bard class in FFXI and Neverwinter Nights, both were a ton of fun to play.

Ya in FFXi you are never bored and always seem to need to remind your party to group properly for the effects to land properly.Always running around, part time healer, the occasional damage lol always a busy bee so you won't fall asleep playing :D.

You might consider returning to EQ and playing your bard. I just returned last december and have been enjoying my bard immensely. It's definitely not too late to come back or even start a new character.
